Who to vote for in General Election?

Aargh.

Would normally vote for Lib Dems (feel like I should apologise for this!), and voted for them in the last two elections. In an ideal world, I'd vote for them or Labour, but I'm not keen on Jeremy Corbyn's (or Tim Farron's) leadership. Really don't want to vote Conservative.

Wondering perhaps about voting for the Women's Equality Party? They seem pretty good, but are still quite a small party.

What does everyone else think?

I honestly don't know... I don't want to abstain from voting but I don't want to vote tactically either! I'm going to do some research!

HPFA · 18/04/2017 13:08

Paris In your position I personally would absolutely vote Labour. LibDems are not going to overturn a massive Labour majority in a seat where they don't have a campaign machinery. They will throw everything at those seats where they have the best chance.

We need to be realistic and accept that even if we can't prevent another Tory government there is a lot to be said for keeping the majority as small as possible.

Thisisouting · 18/04/2017 13:09

I didn't think UKIP were a contender this election after the leadership farce

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 18/04/2017 13:11

I'm a Labour Party member in a very safe Labour seat so I'll vote for them obvs, but I think Momentum (and of course the right wing msm) have destroyed Labour's chances for the next few decades. The only good thing that can come out of this for me is that Momentum and its blind, selfish supporters will finally get the message they've been ignoring for so long

NameChanger22 · 18/04/2017 13:11

I'm voting tactically for the Lib Dems to try and keep the Tories out and because they are the most anti brexit party we have. I've never voted for them before.

I most like the Greens, but I've always voted Labour before because they were our biggest chance of keeping the Tories out. Now they're not.

If the left and anti brexit voters all get behind one party then we have a chance, otherwise the Tories win. Vote Lib Dems.

CassandraAusten · 18/04/2017 13:13

I'm planning to vote Lib Dem as they'll presumably be the only anti-Brexit party.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/04/2017 13:14

Research as much as possible - vote your conscience. It's pointless asking a bunch of strangers, your vote is the one thing that you should make your own decision about.

SquatBetty · 18/04/2017 13:14

Also in a very safe Conservative seat here 56% hold in the 2015 general election. But as a constituency we voted to Remain during the referendum, while our gormless Tory MP voted to Leave. So I wonder if that will have any bearing on his popularity during this Election.

Dunno who to vote for as his majority is so great I doubt he'll lose his seat anyway. Might have to just draw genitalia on my ballot paper instead!

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 13:14

Thanks Cantsee and HPFA - those are good points.

That's what I'm thinking Cassandra - I'm still a little bit in denial about the Brexit vote Blush still keeping my fingers and toes crossed that somehow we can stay in the EU. No idea how, but hoping for a miracle.

Cantseethewoods · 18/04/2017 13:16

noyoudont just playing devil's advocate, if you know Labour will win the seat, and the majority doesn't matter, why don't you vote Lib Dem to show your displeasure at the current leadership?

Fossie · 18/04/2017 13:16

I'm obviously in a minority here but I'll be voting Conservative to ensure Brexit is a success. I can't see anything other than a Conservative government with a better majority making as a good a deal in Brexit negotiations as any other combination out political outcomes.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/04/2017 13:17

I can't imagine any party will overturn Brexit

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 13:17

Ooh Squat who's your MP out of interest? (If you don't mind me asking! :) )

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 18/04/2017 13:18

I don't understand voting labour instead of lib dem if you're in a safe labour seat. The sitting labour mp won't lose-why not vote with your heart even if that means your candidate doesn't win?

AuldHeathen · 18/04/2017 13:19

My sincere belief is, if in England especially, and you have any doubts at all about what the Tories have done so far, then you vote for anyone but them. If you already are unsure about them ('rape clause' for tax credits, Brexit, end of SureStart, social care changes, funding to councils so libraries shutting, roads not being repaired properly, huge problems in NHS, just a few examples) then they will only get worse if May's position is strengthened. So do not give them any support at all.

InScotland, where I am, just remember Ruth Davidson has tarnished her copy book several times of late. She supports the 'rape clause'. And she is obsessed with indeyref2.Wink

CassandraAusten · 18/04/2017 13:20

I think that if Lib Dems won the election (I do realise this is unlikely!) they would be able to overturn Brexit. It would be such a clear pro-EU message.

alreadytaken · 18/04/2017 13:21

I dont want to vote for Corbyn but you should judge this government on its real record, not the trash they spout. Failed to reduce the deficit although when they sold the banks off they should have been able to use that money to do so. Destroying the NHS. I benefit financially from some of their changes but I cant vote for an incompetent government destroying the economy. Tories cant negotiate a piss up in a brewery, never mind Brexit.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 18/04/2017 13:23

Good point PurpleDaisies - thanks :) I think I'm probably going to vote Lib Dem then.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 18/04/2017 13:24

@Cantseethewoods I take your point. I admit I voted for Corbyn first time he stood because I agree with some of his views eg Trident and republicanism and he was the only candidate who voted against the Tory welfare cuts. But by the second time I had become aware of Momentum and the damage they were doing and it reminded me of the painful days of Militant

wfrances · 18/04/2017 13:29

tories never win in my area.

Capricorn76 · 18/04/2017 13:30

Whatever you do do not spoil your ballot. I have no idea why people waste their time doing this, it's not recorded anywhere and is as useful as not voting at all.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 18/04/2017 13:31

It's so hard when you're in a safe seat. I'm in a Tory safe seat - just shy of 50% of the vote last time. Labour got less than 50 more votes than UKIP here last time, and Lib Dems had massive losses. I'll probably vote Green again for all the good it'll do

The thing is, apart from the fact that he's a Tory, I don't really dislike my MP - he comes across as a pretty nice guy, is a Remainer, and was recently very heroic (don't want to say more and out where I live). Now, if he'd only change parties...
