Texting while driving

DH texts and drives sometimes. He has managed to not get into any accidents (yet...) but yesterday he almost hit a car stopped in front of us because he was texting Angry

I have told him multiple times that I am not comfortable with him texting while I'm in the car but he just told me he never forced me to get in the car with him. AIBU to ask him to stop texting and driving??

I would just refuse to get in the car with him if he ever did it again.

Tell him he can dictate the text to you and you can type it into his phone if it's that urgent.

It's now illegal to text and drive points and a fine. Google it and show your DH if that doesn't make him stop well...let the police catch him.

he's an idiot. If he doesnt realise that his actions could result in the death of others and himself and you then he's an idiot and shouldnt be allowed to drive. I would not get in a car with him.

Nothing he is texting is more important than the safety of his passengers or other road users. If my Dh did this, me or my children would not get in a car with him, luckily he's not a massive twat and doesn't use his phone whilst driving.

It's been illegal since about 2003. The recent change is just an increase in the consequences to those caught.

I would refuse to get in the car unless he gave me his phone to put in my bag for the duration. And I would stick to that resolution.

I'm a bit confused by this- do you seriously think you could potentially be unreasonable to ask your husband not to drive whilst texting? Is it a serious question or a rant?

At the same time- you've told him you don't want him to do it- what else can you do? He's obviously not going to listen to you

Take a picture, if possible, of him texting and with the speedo in the background. Then send it to the police.

Showing him articles about other people dying isn't likely to work. Telling him it's illegal isn't likely to
Work. I presume he isn't totally thick and is aware of these well

And they police won't do anything unless they catch him in the act. And if you're actually considering shopping your husband go the police I'd advise you just to leave him. That's not normal
Spousal behaviour.

All you can control is yourself, which means not getting in the car with him. It will be incredibly weird, especially in front of other people, but you clearly want to do something so what else is there?
