Waterrat Broadway market is lovely and if you work in the city a bus ride away (or a walk during a bomb scare SmileConfused) but a bit more

I lived in Deptford some years ago and the trains to London Bridge/Cannon St are very quick and will improve further when the London Bridge works finish next year. Obviously it's not the tube but it's not terrible.

fufulina · 15/04/2017 19:05

'The ginger line'.

Am totally stealing that.

waterrat · 15/04/2017 19:07

new cross has brilliant transport ..the east london line..yes the ginger line...is excellent and it's also on the train to london bridge

ellencherry · 15/04/2017 19:08

But the ginger line (stolen too) and the dlr I
Find are not as good they are a way to get onto the tube.

Ginger line is good straight to east London but for some reason everytime I get it it's like 20 mins wait for a train then the train us horrible packed and delayed

It's a combination of factors. The ex local authority properties sometimes have intrinsic problems with the type of construction e.g.1960's concrete panels and/or poor maintenance. The new build high rises that we all flogged off plan often have high numbers of rentals or unoccupied leading to maintenance issues or the market has been saturated and buy to let investors start defaulting due to oversupply affecting rentals.
Consequently high rise is difficult to get finance on although there is a bit more flexibility in London because oversupply is usually not an issue.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/04/2017 19:10

were not we (I didn't sell anything off plan honestGrin)

Cherrysoup · 15/04/2017 19:11

Why is it so cheap? It's very central, I would have expected it to be £200 grand more so close to Camden/Hampstead. The kitchen would drive me nuts, but that's flats for you. Could you not fancy somewhere bigger with outside space further out? I suppose transport would cost a fortune for both of you?

Plus in high rise you have to factor in asbestos. Not a problem if left in situ.

Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds · 15/04/2017 19:37

I love Kentish Town, and lived there for years, but that's one busy road you'll be right above. There might be more value to be had in one of the ex-council blocks just down Leighton Road.

limitedperiodonly · 15/04/2017 19:49

Still want to know where skerrywind bought a house 20 minutes from the capital a few years ago that cost £200K, though. Pretty sure my curiosity will not be satisfied though...

Me too Squirrels

C'mon skerry. Give me a PM if you don't want to let people in on your secret

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 15/04/2017 19:54

She already said, Edinburgh.
London isn't the only capital city.

squoosh · 15/04/2017 19:54

She said a while back!

Outside Edinburgh, not London. Smile

squoosh · 15/04/2017 19:56

Although everyone knows Glasgow is Scotland's real capital.......Wink

KenAdams · 15/04/2017 19:58

What about Clapham? You could get outdoor space for that price. Lovely area and 15 mins into Zone 1.

GinAndTunic · 15/04/2017 20:04

Clapham? No way. You would struggle to get a decent one-bedroom place there.

allthecheese · 15/04/2017 20:05

I adore Kentish Town, and am also in the middle of buying my own place in London (hopefully!) so not so Shock at the price, and agree that's pretty good value. Agree on the noise thing though. It's so busy on that road!

GinAndTunic · 15/04/2017 20:07

Outside Edinburgh, not London

Which was a bit disingenuous at best - as this thread is about a flat in London and skerrywind referred to "the capital" and not "the capital of Scotland".

I want to see skerrywind's massive house so we can comment on whether or not it's crap.

squoosh · 15/04/2017 20:08

I agree. It was a bit.

mummysmellsofsick · 15/04/2017 20:09

I thought cheap too. Lease issues?

limitedperiodonly · 15/04/2017 20:12

London isn't the only capital city.

I know that Ivy and I respect Edinburgh as a capital city and a lovely place to live. There are many fine places to live in Britain.

But it's pathetic to raise that on a thread about London.

Quodlibet · 15/04/2017 20:12

Could be lease issues or could be difficult to find a mortgage for if the premises below are A1/A2 usage - most mortgage providers won't lend on them, hence them being advertised to 'investors' aka cash buyers.
