AIBU to beg you not to bet on the Grand National? It's animal abuse.

Please think about what you're condoning.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/grand-national-races-animal-cruelty-get-rid-of-dangerous-jump-a7672131.html

"It’s time for the Grand National again – that curious time of year when people who claim to like horses gather to exploit them, often hurting and killing them in the process.

Since 2000, 48 horses have died at the annual festival that the National is part of. Others have suffered horribly with broken backs, necks or legs, severed tendons, or heart attacks. This is the reality of British horse racing."

If you use this as entertainment, the blood of murdered horses is on your hands as well.

Would you bet on a race where human beings fell and broke their legs or necks and had to be shot? At least they would have consented. Horses cannot consent to this life.

Would you be "fine" with it as long as it hadn't happened since 2012, despite horses dying after the race from their injuries since then?

Please don't be dazzled by the so-called glamour of this bloodsport.

I agree with you OPFlowers

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:19

I have just been at my stables all day, we all agreed how cruel it is because of how the failed ones get treated.
It's a murky world.

Unfortunately threads like this attract the 'what abouters' who think that you can't possibly care about more than one issue at a time.

Sorry op, I could have predicted how the thread would go because most people aren't interested and don't care.

AnnaFiveTowns · 08/04/2017 17:20

Horse racing is a vile industry - and there are some pretty vile people on this thread.Sad

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:20

This thread is full of school bullies who never grew up.

OP posts:
DingDongtheWitchIsDangDiddlyDe · 08/04/2017 17:20

Come off it OP, what did you expect? People don't appreciate being harangued and lectured by someone who clearly thinks themselves morally superior. Add that to AIBU and wtf did you think you'd get?

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:21

Ah good ol' victim blaming.

OP posts:
BoneyBackJefferson · 08/04/2017 17:21

hhorvath

I don't agree with some of the other attitudes on the thread either, but you really need to research some of your 'information' in detail before quoting it as fact.

JacquesHammer · 08/04/2017 17:21

Why would I want to engage after the way I've been treated throughout this thread

Because I wasn't one calling you abusive names and was genuinely trying to get info.

A real shame to be honest.

Geekmama · 08/04/2017 17:21

OP I'm in complete agreement, it's barbaric! I can't believe that people still partake in this, they should be ashamed of themselves.

TicTacToe12 · 08/04/2017 17:21

I am vegan. REALLY? I would have never guessed. Never fear, neither your whining or sanctimony give it away. Best mention it every few posts though so that people get the idea.

I give 10% of my income to the most effective charities every year even though I am on a low income. I give to animal charities throughout the year.
Please post pics of the receipts.

Here is the thing.... I don't believe you. I think you want to have a moan about a high profile race and tell everyone how great you are because you are a preachy vegan and that is the extent of your activism.

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:21

Jacques I'd be happy to talk to you in another context if you wanted? Just at the moment I'm pretty pissed off with the way I've been treated.

We grew up around horses as my parents bred them. I'll never forget going to a local raceday, and being so caught up in the excitement of it. Then we were stood by the finish lane and a horse badly fell at the last fence, and was destroyed more or less in front of us.
I cried for about 3 days, it was so distressing and I've abhorred horse racing every since. As for the use of whips, words fail me. It's a barbaric cruel sport and should be banned even if to save us from photos of chavs in their "finery" appearing in the press.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/04/2017 17:23

I care because I do care about this issue, but you're going about it the wrong way. You're acting like you're morally superior to the rest of us and it puts people's backs up.

You're not doing the cause any good at all.

DingDongtheWitchIsDangDiddlyDe · 08/04/2017 17:23

Ah good ol' victim blaming

What do you imagine you are a victim OF, exactly?

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:24

I can't believe I'm posting this shit.

I joined GWWC in 2015 and i've given 10% since then.

AIBU to beg you not to bet on the Grand National? It's animal abuse.

TeaForever · 08/04/2017 17:24

I honestly don't understand why so many of you are being so mean to the OP? It makes me Sad Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and you're welcome to politely disagree. But why the nastiness? I really don't understand?!

You do have lots of support here too OP Flowers Flowers Flowers Flowers

merlynsam · 08/04/2017 17:24

YANBU

I won't be betting - nor will I be watching it on TV.

It's not just the horses that die whilst racing, but those shot afterwards or those who don't make the grade beforehand.

It's the same with greyhounds ..... (SORRY FOR THE DAILY FAIL LINK BUT THE INFORMATION IS IMPORTANT)

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:25

What do you imagine you are a victim OF, exactly?

A bunch of playground bullies looking for someone to rip into.

Yep I noticed the dodge too.

We are in north east USA on the Canadian border. Bear hunting is exiting, it takes a long time to track it. Since moving here we have been able to hunt all our own meat.

Christmas lunch was great last year my DS shot his first Turkey. He was so proud to be feeding the family!

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 17:26

Not all riding is cruel, and not all use of whips is cruel. My horse is ridden with a whip which is used as an aid, not a stick/something to smack her with Hmm

Verticalvenetianblinds · 08/04/2017 17:26

Oh so its about you? What a fool I am I thought you were here to stick up for the horses.

And don't you dare call me a bully because I don't agree with you opinion. That makes you lowest of the low.

Nojellyintrifle · 08/04/2017 17:26

hhorvath don't,you don't have to post screenshots of anything to people like that.
They will be the ones who do nothing, or something only to benefit themselves.

PollytheDolly · 08/04/2017 17:26

Yes, they really are treated like Kings. It's a very moneyed sport, full of very wealthy people and it's in their best interests to treat the horses well. They have heated stables, swimming pools, access to the best vets money can buy etc.

Horses are not kings. They're horses. This is such an anthropomorphic view. Horses don't care what you do, they care how you make them feel.

My horse doesn't give a shit about her stable or how much her rug cost. She did give a shit when I used to ride her like she was brainless machine but I learnt better.

ohforfoxsake · 08/04/2017 17:26

Every year, it's the same. GN, cruel etc.

You are aware that horse racing happens all year round yes?

Verticalvenetianblinds · 08/04/2017 17:27

Tobolsk I think your my new hero!
