Please think about what you're condoning.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/grand-national-races-animal-cruelty-get-rid-of-dangerous-jump-a7672131.html

"It’s time for the Grand National again – that curious time of year when people who claim to like horses gather to exploit them, often hurting and killing them in the process.

Since 2000, 48 horses have died at the annual festival that the National is part of. Others have suffered horribly with broken backs, necks or legs, severed tendons, or heart attacks. This is the reality of British horse racing."

If you use this as entertainment, the blood of murdered horses is on your hands as well.

Would you bet on a race where human beings fell and broke their legs or necks and had to be shot? At least they would have consented. Horses cannot consent to this life.

Would you be "fine" with it as long as it hadn't happened since 2012, despite horses dying after the race from their injuries since then?

Please don't be dazzled by the so-called glamour of this bloodsport.

It's horrendous, and the greyhound racing industry is even worse. 😔

JacquesHammer · 08/04/2017 17:14

And it came off as quite disingenuous - no. It was a genuine thinking out loud as to how it would work.

But still.

KateReddy · 08/04/2017 17:14

I think you're flogging a dead horse OP.

DingDongtheWitchIsDangDiddlyDe · 08/04/2017 17:14

Ah of course. People make ethical choices for attention, not for the sake of being ethical. That must be it

It's not the choices, its the shouting about it and trying to tell everyone else that they are wrong. If you weren't attention seeking you wouldn't be posting here.

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 08/04/2017 17:15

Wow. The reactions of so many posters to a fairly innocuous thread by somebody asking people to question their behaviour (not exactly PREACHING or LECTURING) is pretty gross.

Why are so many of you incapable of just ignoring something you have no interest in, or behaving like adults if you wish to have a conversation about it? This thread is just horrible.

TeaForever · 08/04/2017 17:15

YANBU OP. The Grand National is extremely cruel - many equine deaths & injuries over the years. I'm so glad there are compassionate people like you in the world x

LouBlue1507 · 08/04/2017 17:15

Those horses are treated much better than most humans! Don't talk rubbish about things you don't know about!

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:15

Yes I've loved being called a cunt for 7 pages deep.

Obviously that was my motivation. Not trying to show people the links in the OP and to get them to think about their choices. I was obviously thinking about me, not the animals.

Ah of course. People make ethical choices for attention, not for the sake of being ethical. That must be it.

So I take it that this concern for the welfare of horses extends to you protesting at ALL race meetings and not just the high-profile ones?

What equine charities do you support?

How do your ethics translate into any positive actions on behalf of horses other than WHINGING on the internet?

DingDongtheWitchIsDangDiddlyDe · 08/04/2017 17:16

That's such a chilling thing to read. That an actual adult would be that dismissive of something being killed

In the next ten minutes countless horses will be killed for food too. Horses dying doing what horses are bred for is better, surely? Race horses love to race, it's their thing. How cruel of you to want to stop them.

Thattimeofyearagain · 08/04/2017 17:16

KateReddy 😁

watchoutformybutt · 08/04/2017 17:16

You put your energy into being ethical to animals but a really annoying twat to fellow humans. It's so annoying.
I placed a bet because of this thread Grin

What an utterly ignorant and stupid comment

I am vegan.
I give 10% of my income to the most effective charities every year even though I am on a low income.
I give to animal charities throughout the year.

What are YOU doing with your life other than whingeing on the internet?

OP posts:

I think you're flogging a dead horse OP.

Thank you for this, I actually LOL'ed

klondikecookie · 08/04/2017 17:17

I'm not a vegan, or even a vegetarian, however, I used to volunteer at an animal sanctuary where there were horses with brain injuries sustained during racing, and felt I couldn't enjoy supporting horse racing after that.

Is that okay? Or do I need to be 100% morally consistent in all aspects of my life to validly opt-out of betting on a sporting event?

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:17

Those who are joking about this are repulsive.

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 08/04/2017 17:18

and to get them to think about their choices

Yes. And I did. And tried to start a perfectly polite dialogue and was patronised and called ridiculous. I was genuinely interested. Read the links and was going to ask some questions. Why bother now?

I have no doubt you're passionate about what you're saying OP but you are REALLY going about it the wrong way if you want people to engage.

Verticalvenetianblinds · 08/04/2017 17:18

Yeah but she's dodged the question coz she knows she lives in cloud cuckoo land.
Bear? Not uk then! That must be so exciting!

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/04/2017 17:18

The greyhound racing industry is appalling. I agree there. Horses tend to be less disposed of and are often sold on whereas greyhounds are just dumped off. Some people keep their horses for life as well.

hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:18

Is that okay? Or do I need to be 100% morally consistent in all aspects of my life to validly opt-out of betting on a sporting event?

They're just angry because you're showing them up for what they are.

OP posts:
hhorvath · 08/04/2017 17:19

Why would I want to engage after the way I've been treated throughout this thread?
