It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

We live in central London so we'd say bye bye with the initial blast.

As I'm not a stone cold killer, you'd get my supplies if you poked me hard with a stick.

I only prep for a 3 day power outage, or a bit of heavy rain Wink. Nuclear winter is not something I'd ever want to see.

Sparklingbrook · 07/04/2017 17:32

We have a Preppers topic. Grin

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/preppers

I have some tins of soup but that's it. It will have to do.

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 07/04/2017 17:34

I am completely fascinated by the Patriot Pantry preppers - a huge tin of blueberry muffin mix that lasts 10 years! Shock

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 17:35

Patriots with a sweet tooth.

Nousernameforme · 07/04/2017 17:37

Have I missed something? Are there twitchy fingers poised over buttons all of a sudden?

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 17:37

Some of the knuckle-dragging neanderthals that will be on the loose might eat other humans and their pets when the food runs out Shock

whensitmyturn · 07/04/2017 17:38

We have a couple of weeks worth of food and drink stored in case of a blackout/ short term crisis etc. Remember when people went crazy over the petrol shortage a few years ago?
But ww3/nuclear war is a whole different ball game that I can't even think about getting involved in.

Spudlet · 07/04/2017 17:44

We have a couple of airbases nearby, our best hope is that we're all at home so at least can die together. Grim but true.

LurkingHusband · 07/04/2017 17:44

I think i'll try and learn flint napping then

You start by looking for the bulb of percussion ... (I believe)

Tobolsk · 07/04/2017 17:49

Would people know you have stashed food? Apart from anomalously discussing it on the internet most preppers keep it a secret so they wouldn't be targeted.

Some going as far as learning how the government mark houses to say they have been searched etc so they can camouflage

Saucery · 07/04/2017 17:50

I can knit socks. Going to be a lot of cold feet when the supplies run out.

gluteustothemaximus · 07/04/2017 17:51

Reminds me of that only fools and horses episode, where they make a nuclear fall out shelter Grin

peaceout · 07/04/2017 17:53

I guess the fact of still being alive after a certain period suggests some source of nourishment?

ExplodedCloud · 07/04/2017 17:54

When the Wind Blows means I'm facing London & hoping it's quick if the balloon goes up.

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 17:56

Saucery

I can skin rabbits and stuff? And make fishing rods (if you give me... the English word for the sharp metal thing... Hook?)

And make yarn. But my knitting isn't that good. I used to hate doing the heel...

But I know how to make cheese and yoghurt. And butter. And milk cows (and goats...)

My primary school teacher used to tell us we would end up using these skills. Not sure that's what she meant.

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/04/2017 17:59

Whilst I'd certainly have no desire to survive a nuclear war (and due to a repeat prescription for a chronic pain condition, have the means for a peaceful exit fully prepped, should it come to that!) I do think its sensible to be prepared for short interruptions in gas/electricity/food supplies and the means to self-sustain at home for a few days. Beyond that, no thanks!

WhatWouldDarylDixonDo · 07/04/2017 18:00

Ahem...never mind Rick ^^

Just need a crossbow Daryl style and all will be good 😄

RainyDayBear · 07/04/2017 18:00

I must admit I've started trying to stock up on food and medicines. Not because of nuclear war (though that thought does terrify me). Mainly because if anything big happens in the world then the ensuing panic buying in the shops and general financial panic will be insane and I'd feel happier knowing we have full cupboards and a decent amount of general supplies in (nappies, wipes and Calpol for example), it would just mean one less thing to worry about really.

Yoksha · 07/04/2017 18:06

I was a child of the Cuban missile crises. Grew up listening to my dad & uncles discussing this topic 55yrs ago. I've never been lulled into any sense of security.

Even in the 80's whilst at dinner parties we'd discuss this. The general consensus was to down a bottle or two of heavy duty spirits & stand up into the blast to meet your maker.

Still feel the same.

Polarbearflavour · 07/04/2017 18:07

I work in a role that comes with a nuclear bunker woooooo!

acornsandnuts · 07/04/2017 18:08

I've started to fatten the dog up!

Hungry desperate people are not just going to sit and starve to death.

They will systematically go through houses on a raid.

brickinitIam · 07/04/2017 18:11

I've done a shop and bought an extra pack of jumbo sized toilet rolls.
That's a start.

If nothing else, It'll come in handy with the baked beans.
