Adults sucking lollypops....

Just NO.

AIBU?

Middle aged male visitor is sitting there right now, with DH in the kitchen. His DD I think has a pack of the things (I hate them anyway but kids I can forgive)

And he's sucking one.

He's making little "Shlep" noises when he takes it out again.

I'm so grossed out right now. This is a big grown man of 47.

Slurpy noises no. Adults with lolly pops, ice creams, kiddy sweets, sherbet dib-dabs (totally!) and any other supposedly childish item - yes, completely. Why not? If more adults retained their sense of childhood amusement the world would be a more peaceful place.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 07/04/2017 11:11

I haven't had a Strawberry & Cream Chupa Chup in years. I feel a lollipop hunt coming on. The kids are going to love you Jonesy. Anyway, while you are being so judgemental and bonkers am I 'allowed' a Double Decker with my coffee?

MackerelOfFact · 07/04/2017 11:11

YABU! It's just a sweet on a stick!

Where's the cut-off? What about ice lollies? Should adults have choc ices instead of Magnums? Can adults have a stick of rock? Or must they buy those little bags of sweets made from rock instead? What about sausages on sticks, or cheese and pineapple on sticks, or skewers?

I need someone to clarify the definitive rules on this before I embarrass myself further with my infantile consumption.

pirsonal · 07/04/2017 11:17

YANBU. I think adults eating an ice cream cone look ridiculous too.

Don't give him a hard time: poor man's pregnant Grin

YANBU. Adults with lollies look ridiculous imo

In my mind it is similar to wearing a onesy on the street, pigtails/bunches on a grown woman, men in dungarees (that aren't using it for work tools). None does any harm, except to my eyes!

MrsMeeseeks · 07/04/2017 11:22

YABU but I have similar feelings towards adults who eat 'dippy egg' out of an egg cup with 'soldiers', so IABU too.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 07/04/2017 11:25

First thing I do is wrench the stick out. I love a drumstick ❤

MistressMerryWeather · 07/04/2017 11:27

Preggie pop? Blerg...

Personally, I couldn't suck anything when I had morning sickness.

user1476185294 · 07/04/2017 11:31

I'm an adult (apparently) but one of my favourite 'treats' is kiddy cereal, at the moment I'm craving those pillow things with the chocolate hazelnut filling, but our (mine and DP) normal fall back is coco pops. We both like lollies, more the compressed sherbet kind (swizzles, and if they come with sherbet even better!). I love sweets, and most kiddy food (smiley faces are so so so much nicer than chips!).
Also sleep with a teddy... eat ice cream... dippy egg... sure I've missed something but I'm sure you get the picture.

Although yes, I have been conditioned by the women at a previous job to 'think' that pigtails are only for little kids, once out of primary they shouldn't be worn. Before that I didn't wear them but never would of questioned it.

SheSaidHeSaid · 07/04/2017 11:33

I'm clearly going to hell then aren't I.

I like lollies, ice creams, prefer cereal aimed at children, have worn my hair in pigtails as an adult and love dippy eggs and soldiers.

MackerelOfFact · 07/04/2017 11:36

I have similar feelings towards adults who eat 'dippy egg' out of an egg cup with 'soldiers', so IABU too.

WTF? That's just a soft boiled egg! How are you supposed to eat it if not out of an eggcup?!

Valentine2 · 07/04/2017 11:38

YAVVU. Hand off my lollipops.

DonaldStott · 07/04/2017 11:40

Yanbu OP. Grown ups sucking and licking on lollipops look frankly ridiculous.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 11:41

Japanese culture is much more forgiving of adults enjoying kids' stuff.

OttoChocoLab · 07/04/2017 11:41

I think it's weird that anyone is grossed out by a grown man eating a lollipop. Are you bored OP? Grin

SpookyPotato · 07/04/2017 11:46

YABU! Like someone said, we're a long time dead... leave people be.

SherlockPotter · 07/04/2017 11:47

I agree about the noise, it's disgusting but there isn't an age limit on sweets, I love the sherbet lollies. I also eat Haribo and Coco Pops...

manicinsomniac · 07/04/2017 11:52

Why not?? I've never got the impression that lollipops are a child's food? In fact, I'd hesitate to give one to a young child. So that leaves, what, a short life window of 6-16 during which you can eat lollipops? Craziness.

Lollies are the only sweets I ever eat because I have huge hang ups about sugar and calories and these last a long time so I would only ever eat 1. If it was a boiled sweet I could end up eating 5 in the same time.

Luckily I also have a huge fear of eating in public so will never have to inflict my lollipop eating on anyone else!

Sometimes threads like this (not specifically this one but many different ones) make me think it's not so abnormal and concerning to be afraid to eat in public as everyone tells me it is. So many extreme reactions to something so simple and necessary!

MrsMeeseeks · 07/04/2017 11:54

Where are these 'extreme reactions'? I thought we were just chatting.

MrsMeeseeks · 07/04/2017 11:56

WTF? That's just a soft boiled egg! How are you supposed to eat it if not out of an eggcup?!

The same way you'd eat a fried or poached egg with a runny yolk: on top of toast, in a sandwich or with a knife and fork.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/04/2017 11:56

YABU, I bloody love a drumstick, and am rather partial to a chuppa chup.

And a sherbet dib dab.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 11:59

Unless you're Kojak or Baby Spice step away from the lollipops.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 12:00

Although I do love those drumstick lollipops myself...

notarehearsal · 07/04/2017 12:00

Eewww to adults eating ice cream, lollies ( boiled or ice) or wearing Disney tops. Next please
