To think that my dog is not 'just a dog'?

Well of course he's 'just a dog' because he's, well, a dog.

BUT he's a massive, huge part of my and DH's life and of my DC's lives. He's the first member of the household that DS (who is a different boy since we got him) talks to in the morning and last he talks to at night. He cheers me up just by looking at me and wagging his tail. DH suffers from insomnia and frequently wanders downstairs during the night and I'll find the dog cuddled up to him on the sofa (he's not allowed on the furniture btw Smile. DD sits and chats to him when she comes home from school in a bad mood for whatever reason 10 year olds get in a bad mood about. I love everything about him, we all do.

And now we find he has a huge tumour and things are looking very bleak. I can't even tell you how devastated we all are and MIL tells DS not to be silly as 'it's just a dog and you can get another one'.

I know not everyone likes pets, or dogs but he's ours and we love him. I don't suppose this is really a BU thread, I just wanted to tell someone else.

So very sorry to read this. I understand how upset you are, we lost Ddog to a brain tumour and it's devastating.

People who don't do dogs just don't understand. Bless you, it's a horrible time for you. Flowers

I meant no offence, just another view. I did say I felt so sorry for OP too, in case you all have forgotten.

But where pets are concerned, for some, humans have no say!

So sorry Wilbur there is no such thing as "just a dog". It is one of the universe's worst tricks to give them just a short time on this earth compared to us.

I'm sat here snuggling with our beloved dog. My heart breaks for you. I've always called her my fur baby she always will be.

Anyone who doesn't understand what a dog brings to a family, how they make your house even more of a home and he ridiculous love reciprocated between you and them; well leave them to it.

Wilbur have you had the biopsy done? The first fatty lump on mine nearly gave me a heart attack. No dog is 'just a dog'. MIL should be far more understanding given how upset you all are. I've never properly recovered from my dog dying years ago, it still makes me cry.

Our dog means an awful lot to us. We couldn't have children so she's very much our baby! Totally different I know but she makes us so so happy and I can't bear the thought of her ever not being around. That cartoon has really made me well up - not sure why as it's funny/sweet really!

What the hell is your problem.

Why do people do that.

'My dog is very unwell'

'It's worse if it was a child'

Well yes genius. It is would be worse. Why are you trying to minimise somebody's pain? Could you be anymore insensitive. This isn't about opinions on if dogs are family members or not. It's about a family facing a difficult time with a family member (it is a family member) being potentially critically unwell.

Go elsewhere with your unfeeling inappropriateness.

Havana I find it very sad that you have no empathy for other people and cannot understand the loss and the grief that they go through and are feeling.

You probably want me to tell you to 'go fuck yourself'

Instead I will say.

I feel really sorry for you.

No actually I don't.

Have a look at yourself, find some empathy for other human beings.

It might make you feel better.

You are a bit thick Havana, a child is more likely to be killed by its own parents than a dog, or a car, or an accident in the home.

I feel sorry for you, how do you function in society with such poor social skills and lack of critical thinking?

Of course he's just a dog.

He's just the dog who your son talks to every morning and night. He just the dog who can cheer you up with a wag of his tail. He's just the dog who keeps your husband company on sleepness nights and just the dog who gets your daughter out of a grump.

I had just a cat like that.
