A discussion of the day:

Interviews - taking the piss?

Now, call me old fashioned, but did they really mean to say that?

There is a very scatalogical side to Mumsnet, what with the resident poo troll and Mumsnetters describing themselves as "losing their shit" or "not giving a shit" hither and thither.

I don't know why, but I don't expect it from HQ.

Consider this bosom hoiked.

Oh DEAR. Definitely falls below our standards. I think "mickey" was the phrase they wanted.

helpimitchy · 05/04/2017 17:30

I don't think you're allowed to say "mickey" anymore as it's offensive.

ViolentDelights · 05/04/2017 17:31

Turns of phrase such as those you quoted are commonplace.

Unless you are my nan, who says "taking the mick"

PollyBanana · 05/04/2017 17:32

Taking the Mickey is offensive now? Confused

PortiaCastis · 05/04/2017 17:32

Meh can't get mazy over that. Ripping the piss is better mind.

Littlecaf · 05/04/2017 17:33

They should have said "taking the Michael"

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/04/2017 17:35

I know those phrases are commonplace Violet. Not sure what your point is.

I think of shit and piss as swear words. I wouldn't say them in front of children or my Mum, for example, or when talking to a stranger.

OP posts:
SecretNetter · 05/04/2017 17:37

I haven't seen it...whilst it doesn't offend me, i do think it's inappropriately worded tbh. Tut tut.

HerrenaHarridan · 05/04/2017 17:43

Ha ha ha ha ha hah ha ha ha

Mn is well known for allowing swearing and piss... well!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/04/2017 17:46

Well it's amused someone at least!

OP posts:
TwentyCups · 05/04/2017 17:48

I honestly don't see the problem here. It's well known that swearing is allowed here, and I don't really consider piss to be a proper swear word anyway.

Crankycunt · 05/04/2017 17:48

Taking the piss is barely swearing.

It's not as though they've written taking the fucking awful cunting pigfucking piss is it?

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 05/04/2017 17:49

Taking the Micky comes from the word micturate, meaning piss.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 05/04/2017 17:49

Taking the Mickey is offensive? Who to? Mice?

LadyLoveYourWhat · 05/04/2017 17:50

"Taking the mickey" is not offensive. I guess you might think it is if you thought it was something to do with Irish people, but I don't think it ever has been.

kierenthecommunity · 05/04/2017 17:50

Isn't Micky slang in Ireland for a penis? Sure I read that in a Marian Keyes book...

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 05/04/2017 17:51

I think of shit and piss as swear words. I wouldn't say them in front of children or my Mum, for example, or when talking to a stranger.

But this isn't children, or your mum, it's mumsnet and sometimes we say cunt too.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 05/04/2017 17:54

Wot?! Confused

Mamagin · 05/04/2017 17:55

I hate the word 'piss'. It's ugly.
I'm fine with cunt as long as it's not being used as an insult, and fuck is fine.
Think again Mumsnet.

zeeboo · 05/04/2017 17:56

Mick is an offensive slang word for Irishman. I can't reply any more because I'm too busy laughing at someone saying they'd never say 'taking the piss' in front of a stranger because it's swearing Grin. Talk about pearl clutching!!!!

MumW · 05/04/2017 17:59

I don't think you're allowed to say "mickey" anymore as it's offensive.

Gosh, is it? Well, you learn something new every day.

ViolentDelights · 05/04/2017 18:01

Haven't you been here for ages Bibbity? Surely you've noticed mumsnet swears a lot by now?

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2017 18:03

We say "extracting the Michalis" in this house.

MistressMolecules · 05/04/2017 18:05

Huh? You are offended by piss?? really?! (maybe I am missing the sarcasm?) but at least once a day on here there is fuck, cunt, etc...

Have you found your way to the wrong Mums site by any chance Grin

NerrSnerr · 05/04/2017 18:08

I am deeply shocked to my very core. Won't MNHQ think of the children why are the children on MN?

Today they're saying 'piss' what will it be tomorrow?

Flounces.
