to sit in my car at lunchtime?

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 09:42

I have changed my hours so that I now get 1 hour at lunch instead of 30 mins. In the previous 30 mins I would feel rushed to get my lunch and had no time to run errands hence why I changed my times.

Now, I find that I am done with my lunch after 30 mins and right now, craving time to myself, have found myself sitting in my car at lunch after I've eaten to avoid the lunchtime natter and just get some quiet time.

Is this a bit weird?

It's a great thing to do if it's not nice enough to sit in the park. Whatever you do though, don't decide to stretch out on the back seat and then realise the child locks are on and you can't get out. Blush

Oh dear jiggly lol. Thats the voice of experience?? Wink

I thought about banging on the window to ask a passerby for help but in the end I hitched my skirt up round my waist and clambered between the front seats. Never again!

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 12:40

I'd have just text my boss and just said "Can't return to work. Locked in Car"

So, whats the rules - engine on or off?

Why would you leave your engine on?

magimedi · 04/04/2017 12:46

I think you can do whatever you want with your lunch hour.

What I want to know is how is the swimming going??

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 12:53

Oh Magi Grin I have swam umpteen lengths - usually knackered half way. Instructor says I can swim much better than I thought and last week said I'd come along brilliantly..... I have tread water at least twice - in a 1.8m pool (with aides on)!

Gold star for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Star

cjt That's amazing news - I am so pleased for you.

When's the Channel swim?? Grin

JigglyTuff · 04/04/2017 13:22

Why didn't I think of that? Grin

ShelaghTurner · 04/04/2017 13:59

Engine off. Radio plays for an hour without flat battery so no need. If it was too hot I wouldn't sit in the car rather than have air con on.

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 14:01

I did it. Drove a little across the business park. Had my radio on whilst I ate then dozed for the last 20 or so minutes. I feel much refreshed.

In fact, I feel a bit naughty - like it's my secret lunch time!

YANBU - you spend enough hours a week with people you work with. And it is lovely sometimes to get time to yourself.

SuperRainbows · 04/04/2017 14:11

I'm chuckling away here! Was hoping for an update on what you actually chose to do.

So glad you did this.

Today is the beginning of a new era, where you do what is right for you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 14:25

SuperRainbows I am glad I've made you smile Smile I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was hiding away. I even scoped out where I could park without anyone from work going past. Parked in a dead end area.

Noticed at least 2 others in their cars, seemingly doing the same as me!

gingina · 04/04/2017 16:23

I thought of you while I was eating my lunch in my car OP
I've often wondered if it would be OTT to rig up some curtains so I could really shit the world out??? That would be a bit weird though wouldn't it???

gingina · 04/04/2017 16:23

Shut the world out
FFS!!!!

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 16:27

shit the world out I'm PMSL laughing at that.

I did dig out DS' in-car blanket to roll it up as a pillow as I thought I look less dead that way than fly catching....!

I do this on a weekend course that I am doing. The course can be quite intense, and even though it is a lovely group of people, I slip quietly away to my car at lunchtime, eat my lunch, browse a little on my phone, and if possible get in a nice walk.
I feel so much better for it, tbh. And more people on the course have started to do likewise, I notice.

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 16:30

I just find I need time to get out, not be at my desk. I tend to find lunchtimes in our office boring and if I go back to my desk, I end up MNetting working.

Can't wait to finally pass my driving test (keep
Failing Angry)and get a car and one of the reasons is to sit in my car whilst my daughter does her hobbies to avoid small talk.

I wouldn't leave the engine running tho- make sure your phone is charged at work and listen to it on there?

Must get a car with tinted windows to avoid the annoying window tappers!

Batwomanrisesagain · 04/04/2017 16:33

I have a 7 seater (tinted windows in the back) and have made a little camp in the boot with pillows and quilt. I have a snooze and sometimes watch a movie!

MeerkatOnMyWall · 04/04/2017 16:37

No it is not weird, its awesome.

I have been known to do that. Once when I'd had really bad spell with DD (up at 4am every morning plus horrible commute to city centre) I went to the car, put the seat back, set alarm for 40 mins and had a snooze Grin

There's nothing wrong with wanting peace and quiet and your own company.

cjt110 · 04/04/2017 16:53

Batwomanrisesagain I want to be you when I grow up Grin
