Aibu? Parents at playground

Hi everyone, Smile

Because it was such a lovely day today we decided to take ds to playground. When we got there, there was 2 boys on swings (only two swings in the entire playground BTW) the one boy got to the swing before ds did, fair enough ds needed to wait his turn etc, that's fine.
Boy 1 was on swing around ten minutes, by this time big queue is building up. Boy 2 was on swing wayyyyyy before boy 1. Boy 1s parents finally called him off and let ds have a turn because he was next (although ten mins was quite a long wait I'm not that overly bothered)
However boy two was on the swing for over thirty minutes! His parents just stood there watching him and not calling him off, whilst theres a big back log of kids waiting...
Husband did say something to them in the end and they completly ignored him. I find this behaviour unacceptable, but maybe it's just me? Aibu? Please be gentle, I'm not looking for a fight honest 😁

If a cafe is busy and someone has their coat on and looks like they might be about to leave, I ask them Shock "hi, are you just arriving or just leaving?"

I don't stand over them staring at them so they don't enjoy their coffee and leave ASAP

You are an adult, I presume.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 20:00

I've just posed this scenario to the mixed age bunch around me and they all go along with what I have said is the general accepted 'rule of the playground'.

TinselTwins · 04/04/2017 20:01

Giddyaunt18 I'm not the only one on this thread who disagrees with you re swing queueing. Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't make them invalid (as you try to imply with me re your "not from UK" comment. I am from UK)

There are some things where a queue is logical (e.g. slide)
And other things where it's just PA and rude (e.g. swing)

gee whiz, your friends/the people you surround yourself with you have similar views to you? fancy that!

I've been on many a playground playdate and never seen any of my friends queue on their childs behalf at the swings.. but then I'ld assume that people who do just probably aren't my type so I don't hang out in playgrounds with them, rather than trying to make out on threads that nobody who disagrees with me could possibly frequent UK playgrounds Hmm

Neither have I and I have never done this. I mean the child who wants a go patiently waiting their turn.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 20:09

I was wondering if you are not from UK because as a nation we queue. other nationalities find this bizarre.

Badgersarefriends · 04/04/2017 20:09

I reckon the parents who leave the dc to sort things out themselves are the ones chatting on the bench oblivious to their precious free range darlings pushing the others around and hogging equipment for ages.

TinselTwins · 04/04/2017 20:12

I was wondering if you are not from UK because as a nation we queue. other nationalities find this bizarre not for everything

we queue for busses, for supermarket check outs, for loos
we don't queue for park benches, for picnic benches, for exercise equipment at the gym.

Kids in parks queue for zip wires and at the top of slides. I've never seen this swing-queue business or even heard of it before this thread

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 20:13

They do though. Always have waited by the swing for a go.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 20:14

Otherwise you'd never get a go!

TinselTwins · 04/04/2017 20:22

I'ld rather not get a go at all than try to enjoy a go under the glare of watch-watchers.
