On my phone, when you send a text and then go back to the home page/do something else then go back into texts, it stays on the message conversation of the last person you messaged. I don't text many people and 99% of the time it's on my husbands message convo.

I've got my driving test tomorrow morning and my instructor has just text me to say he isn't very well and likely to have to postpone my test which could be another 8 weeks away now. Not instructors fault but I'm angry/upset as I'm going to have to pay again, too late to cancel now.

Anyway, I've text my husband (at work) and told him. I called instructor a few names as not been happy with him for few weeks but didn't want change instructor with being so close to test. Except I sent the text to my instructor and not my husband. Bollocks.

the instructors' own children learned, they didn't use him!

Probably more to do with being related. My dad was a professional driver and after one lesson we were ready to kill each other. I had an instructor after that.
I wouldn't judge an instructor on that alone.

I agree with the FB suggestions OP, fingers crossed you'll find someone.

SuperFlyHigh · 02/04/2017 11:12

Sisters well his own sister didn't even learn... Could have been to do with being related.

When his sister told me his kids didn't learn with him, she was more Confused as to why not!

PuppyMonkey · 02/04/2017 11:12

Sorry OP but that really is a corker Grin

PregnantAndEngaged · 02/04/2017 11:14

aww OP you must feel awful, but accidents happen and tbh if you're feeling this way about him then maybe he's not the right instructor for you. I had an instructor once that I didn't get on with, I felt that all she ever did was criticise me, never gave any positive feedback and I just felt she was saying I was shit all the time. Anyway one day when I was really hormonal (pregnant but didn't even know it yet), I started crying, pulled over, said I've had enough of her and always criticising me, I was quitting having her as my instructor and wanted her to drive me home as I'm done, I got out of the car and walked to the passenger door. She looked so shocked. I felt awful about it afterwards as I never flip out like that and it wasn't my intention to hurt her feelings.

Not the same situation exactly, but thought another awkward situation with a driving instructor might help provide some solidarity!!

Abraiid2 · 02/04/2017 11:15

My children both passed the test in our own car.

user1489261248 · 02/04/2017 11:16

The text I sent said: "So pissed off, Dave is ill so not having test tomorrow. Knew this would happen. Sick to death of the fucking bastard letting me down all the time. Wish I'd found somebody else weeks ago who is more competent"*

He replied a few seconds later saying "Right. Ok." I've since replied saying "Oh god, so sorry Dave*, that was for my husband, so disappointed as getting myself worked up over test and now got cancel it"

That was a pretty harsh text. If I was the instructor I would be pretty pissed off. Hopefully he sees the funny side, I wouldn't count on it though. If someone called me an 'incompetent fucking bastard' I would not be talking to them again - ever.

Good luck with your test when you do actually do it, but FFS be careful when you send messages from now on!

QuimReaper · 02/04/2017 11:27

I would love it if Dave were one of the Daves recognised by posters! Sadly I think OP changed the name and asterisked it to say so, given the bolding in her post (but didn't follow up the asterisk).

OP has he been unreliable in the past or was that just hyperbole? If he's been a flake then it's perfectly fair criticism, although obviously not how you'd have chosen to phrase it to his face!

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 02/04/2017 11:40

Not related to the op but I had no idea you could do your test in your own car. It's 20 years since I had lessons.

SlothMama · 02/04/2017 11:49

My instructor repeatedly did this to me, his car was forever being "serviced" I ditched him for a new instructor then passed first time!

Could you rent a car? All the hire car companies have fiat 500's so it'd be a familiar car. May be an extra cost but at least it means you can have your test.
Or try other instructors to see if they'll lend their car to you

DonkeySkin · 02/04/2017 11:50

Lol, Venchi, I came into this thread to post that David O'Doherty song Grin

It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the OP's thread title.

Crowdblundering · 02/04/2017 11:51

Ah - I have done this.

Sent text to OH who works away telling him my really filthy plans for him that weekend but accidentally sent to my dad in error Blush

TreeTop7 · 02/04/2017 11:52

He must cover your costs. Why should you be out of pocket? He's giving professionally-minded instructors a bad name.

Alexandra87 · 02/04/2017 12:24

My dh taught me to drive but when the time came to do my test I didn't want to do it in his car (boy racer thing thought i would be more harshly judged just to keep me off the roads 😂) so I got work to insure me on one of their vehicles which are vans. I had previously been used to a Ford Fiesta. Point being you will be fine in dh 7 seater if you can drive one car you can drive another. Just have a bit of a practice parking beforehand and make yourself familiar with the biting point

Venchi · 02/04/2017 13:24

Crowdblundering that is psychotherapy inducing.
i had a bf Dan years ago and i had him in my phone as Bdan after a near miss

CadburyMellos · 02/04/2017 16:44

I have a car!! I posted on my towns facebook page pleading for an instructor to take me for my test tomorrow and have found somebody who is available in the morning. And if I fail I will use this person for future lessons.

Good luck!

Meekonsandwich · 02/04/2017 16:57

Hehehe that's horrifying xD

But I think your text was bloody harsh

He got you to test standard, he's not incompetent, he's unreliable.

There's no need to call him names though he can't help it lol

VanillaSugar · 02/04/2017 17:15

Brilliant news OP - good luck!

HereThereThen · 02/04/2017 17:52
