On my phone, when you send a text and then go back to the home page/do something else then go back into texts, it stays on the message conversation of the last person you messaged. I don't text many people and 99% of the time it's on my husbands message convo.

I've got my driving test tomorrow morning and my instructor has just text me to say he isn't very well and likely to have to postpone my test which could be another 8 weeks away now. Not instructors fault but I'm angry/upset as I'm going to have to pay again, too late to cancel now.

Anyway, I've text my husband (at work) and told him. I called instructor a few names as not been happy with him for few weeks but didn't want change instructor with being so close to test. Except I sent the text to my instructor and not my husband. Bollocks.

Thanks. My husband has a car but its a huge 7 seater so I really don't want to do my test in that (instructors car is a fiat 500). My mum's car is an automatic so no use. I'll have to ring friends to see if I can borrow theirs and get it insured today. Last thing I needed today was this stress. GAH!

Given you've called him incompetent I doubt you'll see him again anyway and fully suspect you've lost any chance of him covering your costs.

LagunaBubbles · 02/04/2017 08:55

Oooops! But your instructor should pay, it's not your fault.

Audreyhelp · 02/04/2017 08:57

Have you got face book ? Just ask if any instructors can take you for a test .

KungFuEric · 02/04/2017 08:59

I think your working relationship is over, and I'd know just try to pursue a refund for the test from Dave that he has cancelled at short notice.

KungFuEric · 02/04/2017 09:01

About finding a car to sit the test tomorrow, I've a feeling for test conditions it might need to be a dual control vehicle. Anyone more knowledgable able to confirm?

DonaldStott · 02/04/2017 09:01

Well he has let you down and I'm glad you sent it.

Sorry but hahaha, at least he knows what you think now.

Good luck tomorrow.

AlternativeTentacle · 02/04/2017 09:05

'Actually Dave thinking about it - you are self employed so you can either send someone in your place, or book another instructor to take your place. I have paid for a service and you need to deliver'.

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 02/04/2017 09:05

Arnold Clark hire dual control cars that you can sit your test in. You will just need an experienced driver to go with you to the testing centre then. Good luck with getting it sorted.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/04/2017 09:06

Oh Cadbury, 😂😂😂 sorry, but that's made me laugh!
Bet that'll give Dave food for thought, as regards his shirking.
Hope that you manage to borrow a car, and the very best of luck, with your test .

MyLittleBoyBlue · 02/04/2017 09:10

Serves him right! He should have offered to pay.

Contact some other local instructors and see if they can help/what they suggest.

Good luck.

VanillaSugar · 02/04/2017 09:10

I don't think the text is that bad, actually, under the circumstances. Can you call the driving test centre and explain what's happened, and can they do anything to help? YOU don't want to cancel the test, do you?

HollyJollyDillydolly · 02/04/2017 09:12

Oops not ideal. I can see why you were pissed off though. Hopefully you can find a replacement car to sit the test in.

LostSight · 02/04/2017 09:15

Can you ring round other instructors and see if any kind person can fit you in as an emergency?

elpinguino · 02/04/2017 09:16

You can sit your driving test in any roadworthy car that you're insured on, it doesn't have to be dual control. My driving instructor didn't believe in dual control at all so I learnt in a "normal" car and dos my test in it too. Lots of people choose to take the test in their own cars as they don't have formal lessons. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

NoBetterName · 02/04/2017 09:17

Alternative, the instructor being self-employed does not mean you have the right to insist he sends someone else in his place, it means he has the right to send someone else in his place.

If i were him though, I'd be sending you a cheque back for your test and a note saying that since our professional relationship has broken down irretrievably, please make alternative arrangements to take your test.

Janek · 02/04/2017 09:19

Do not cancle your test! There must be someone whose car you can borrow to do it in. Ring round other driving instructors. I took my test in my parents' car - my dad took me for a drive round before it, then I did the test in their car - i always found their peugeot 205 easier to drive than my instructor's fiat uno anyway. So there was no duel control.

Alternatively - to make good, could your instructor insure/lend his car to your dh and you use that car with dh driving you to/from test? The car may already be insured for anybody - learners drive it all the time, and if it is used for tests, then the instructor isn't always there to supervise, so it may be that your dh would be insured to take it anyway.

FloatyCat · 02/04/2017 09:23

I think your relationship with him is over now Blush after the text.
Ring the test centre and ask what you can do i.e.: dual control car.
IMO it's very unprofessional that you just lose your money, he should be offering you a refund.

M2R2 · 02/04/2017 09:25

Oh dear thats a hard one.
I did text the wrong person once and was so hard that i had to deal with him for a long period.
He was a customer that is well known by my colleague X.
Anyway one day he come by our office and X wasn't there so i helped him. He was flirting and joking a lot to a point that he mentioned that he will talk to me as he have my number something like that.
As soon as he left I texted X why do i have the feeling that Y is about to ask me out??? What's wrong with him.
And msg went to Y and life was hell for a couple of years.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 02/04/2017 09:31

It's not Dave from a market town in Northants, is it? Baseball bat under his seat, aura of slight creepiness?

MuttsNutts · 02/04/2017 09:31

Janek - sorry but I really don't think the instructor is likely be in the mood for doing favours and lending his car 😂

pictish · 02/04/2017 09:35

I sat my test in my own car...not dual control.
It is shit of your instructor to have you take the financial hit of missing out on the test. I wonder how that works? Is he obliged to re compensate you the cost of the test, which is hardly cheap?

Saucery · 02/04/2017 09:36

I think EyeStye's text is the only possible way forward from what you actually wrote.
