On my phone, when you send a text and then go back to the home page/do something else then go back into texts, it stays on the message conversation of the last person you messaged. I don't text many people and 99% of the time it's on my husbands message convo.

I've got my driving test tomorrow morning and my instructor has just text me to say he isn't very well and likely to have to postpone my test which could be another 8 weeks away now. Not instructors fault but I'm angry/upset as I'm going to have to pay again, too late to cancel now.

Anyway, I've text my husband (at work) and told him. I called instructor a few names as not been happy with him for few weeks but didn't want change instructor with being so close to test. Except I sent the text to my instructor and not my husband. Bollocks.

I should not laugh but sorry that had me giggling thank you Smile

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/04/2017 09:39

He's not my neighbour is he ? He's called Dave and is a driving instructor.

HereThereThen · 02/04/2017 09:39

That's quite bad but I thought your follow up text was good.

SilverDragonfly1 · 02/04/2017 09:40

I think you just fired your driving instructor OP.

Deservedly!

PollytheDolly · 02/04/2017 09:41

Oh dear. Never mind, nothing you can do now. You did apologise.

Good luck with your driving.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 09:46

DS learnt in my car with the driving instructor. No dual controls and also took his test in it.

Ask on your local FB Spotted page.

memyselfandaye · 02/04/2017 09:47

Start ringing every instructor within a 20 mile radius, I had the same situation 10 years ago. My instructor arranged for another one to take me, and I passed.

Venchi · 02/04/2017 09:51

bit awkward but you don't have to see that guy again. it could have been a colleague! or your uncle! ride it out!
I hope you get a car sorted for test

angeldiver · 02/04/2017 09:52

I would put Dave behind you and concentrate on getting another car for tomorrow.
I hope you pull it off and your test goes swimmingly.

ohdoadoodoo · 02/04/2017 09:59

Cadbury 😂😂 that's worse than I was imagining. Priceless

Scrumptiousbears · 02/04/2017 10:00

As a side issue have you thought about posting on local FB site asking if another instructor can take you to your test. My partner is a part time driving instructor and has been approached before.

Timeforteaplease · 02/04/2017 10:01

As a side issue have you thought about posting on local FB site asking if another instructor can take you to your test

That's a great idea.

BoffinMum · 02/04/2017 10:07

He should have got a colleague to cover, to take you to the test.

GabsAlot · 02/04/2017 10:08

ask him to cover your costs-his own fault not yours

or like others said try and find another car it will be stressful but worth a shot

he sounds useless anyway

HereThereThen · 02/04/2017 10:10

I'm my experience most driving instructors are called Dave or Steve. One or the other 😂

AlternativeTentacle · 02/04/2017 10:15

@noBetterName Alternative, the instructor being self-employed does not mean you have the right to insist he sends someone else in his place, it means he has the right to send someone else in his place.

Yes that is why I said 'you CAN send someone else' not 'you must send someone else'.

NoBetterName · 02/04/2017 10:25

I rather think all the goodwill which would have been required for him to go out of his way like that will have been used up. Don't you?

Sorry, OP but i think you need to apologise and find another instructor.

SuperFlyHigh · 02/04/2017 10:28

A friend of a friend was learning to drive with someone I know (brother of friend) who's a driving instructor a couple of years ago. Driving instructor "forgot" lesson once (quick text when he realised after more half an hour had gone by) and turned up late (15 minutes I think) for another lesson. It was also really hard for her to get lessons with him, he was popular but often had no space on weekends and evenings - not necessarily due to him having to work but his social life apparently. Friend worked so could only do evenings, mornings or weekends.

My friend got annoyed with this after a while and just found another instructor.

I found out from my friend whose brother he is that when she learned to drive and the instructors' own children learned, they didn't use him!

In this case as it sounds as if your instructor has also been messing you around with lessons etc as well then your text though a bit rude is justified really. You wouldn't really recommend him would you.

It also depends how unwell he is, if it's a cold or something he could Lemsip up and do it. A day is very short notice if it's something else like flu or worse, he'll have known Friday etc if he was that sick.

In your case I'd also ask for your money back re test, totally not your fault and rebook or try to get another car but I think this may not work due to the scarcity of time.

It's really not on at all if he's behaved like this this professionally as a driving instructor, wonder how many other times he's done it?

StiickEmUp · 02/04/2017 10:30

If he does let you down it's true!

neonrainbow · 02/04/2017 10:30

Can you go out in your dhs car today to practice? See how you get on? The main thing is parking something that size.

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 02/04/2017 10:41

Book a test drive in a 500 from your local Fiat garage and then tell them you'll be 'testing' it for a few hours! Ahem tats not a serious suggestion btw. Can you hire a 500 in time and send 'Dave' the bill?

LadyLapsang · 02/04/2017 10:50

You won't be seeing your instructor again. If he has let you down on a number of previous occasions, as your text suggests, its understandable (from the point of view that it was not intended for him), if not, YABU.

Emmageddon · 02/04/2017 10:55

Dave deserved that text by the sound of it. He needs to up his game or he won't have a business to run soon, if he carries on being so flaky.

Good luck with the test - I hope you manage to borrow/hire a car and pass with flying colours Flowers

Agree that he kind of 'deserves' the feedback though. My driving instructor, he was self employed and it was just him, but he had various buddy systems going on with other drivers, some buddy systems for an automatic car, some for instructors in case of family emergencies. He had systems in place so that he wasn't going to just ring and say 'duh sorry can't make it'.
