To take baths with my daughter?

DD is 2.5. She has a bath most nights. Recently I've been jumping in with her, really just to get my hair washed - gets that particular chore out of the way, in all honesty. But she loves it when I bath with her. We play with her toys then I wash her hair, wash mine, shower us both off, and out we get.

DH has no issues, although says he wouldn't feel comfortable doing it himself.

However, my SIL and one of my friends gave me this look: Hmm when I mentioned it in conversation.

Is it wrong??? I mean it's not like she'll remember it and I'm not planning on doing it for much longer. Its just convenient, saves a bit of time, and to be honest it's nice at the end of a long day to have a laugh with her and play with her toys.

I've bathed with all my kids up until they start acting like they may need privacy

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 01/04/2017 22:02

My 5 and 6 year olds do. Wouldn't go past that age though I don't spose they would want to.

Teabagtits · 01/04/2017 22:06

Dd is 7 and begs to join me in the bath. She loves to wash my hair and then got me to wash hers. I didn't realise anyone would consider it abnormal. One night I fell asleep in the bath and was awakened by her climbing in... not sure I'd be happy with that scenario again but with mutual consent, why not. I found it a beautiful bonding experience, particularly when she struggled with getting her hair washed and all tantrums ceased and it became fun. She's getting too tall now to fit us both in. I certainly don't think there's anything unreasonable about sharing a bath with your own child.

I did this with my DD until she was 10!

SovietKitsch · 01/04/2017 22:07

My DD 2.5 won't get in the bath without me or DH! And my DS10 is now too large to fit in with me, but likes to come and sit on the end, stick his feet in and have a chat. I'm sure he'll decide he's too old soon, but whilst he's not bothered I can't see there's any harm in it!

highinthesky · 01/04/2017 22:08

It's fine, I wish I'd thought of it!

PollytheDolly · 01/04/2017 22:09

My DCs are adults but both me and my exH did when they were tiny.

The issue is with others who feel uncomfortable with it, not you x

I bath with my DD 10 and DS 8. They love it and often love a warm bath cuddle. It is a time where we can just talk and cuddle with no distractions and often they tell me things that are bothering them at school etc.

MiddleClassProblem · 01/04/2017 22:13

I do it a couple of times a week. DD is 2 and a bit. Can't see me stopping for a while. She loves it.

Starlight2345 · 01/04/2017 22:14

I did with my DS at that age..no issue at all

Now if I get in the bath he suddenly needs a poo Confused

angelinheaven · 01/04/2017 22:14

I think it's lovely, all my dc have done it, only my two youngest do it now and they are 3 and 6, and they will bath with me until they don't want to anymore. My ds is 10 and he will sit in the bathroom on a stool and chat while I'm in the bath. They are your dc and take no notice of others, shame they missed the lovely bonding experience that it has x

Astro55 · 01/04/2017 22:16

I can't think of any reason, other than not fitting for it to be odd!

Because the water would be bloody cold!!

I hated it for that reason - sitting in a few inches of cold bath water isn't 'fun'

TitaniasCloset · 01/04/2017 22:16

When I was little my mum (rip) would take me in the bath with me and I lived it, I can actually remember it,. Then ibe day I noticed she had pubuc hair and I didn't so I mentioned it and she must have thought I was getting too old so no more baths with mum! Which was sad for me really because I liked having a bath with her.

I think it's a lovely thing to do and how long it goes in for depends on your attitude to nakedness and your own judgement. Its noone else's business and is completely normal and fine.

buttbutt · 01/04/2017 22:18

Ahh. This takes me back to when mine were little & the bath was my 20 minutes peace. I couldn't lock the door because the only loo was in the bathroom. The little buggers worked it out & one or both would appear next to the bath, calmly strip off and clamber in. It drove me nuts at the time, but they're big oiks now & I miss it. So, enjoy your baths with your little one, and ignore any po faced twats.

FrogFairy · 01/04/2017 22:18

Enjoy bathing with your DD.

Puddle jumping, sharing a bubbly bath and then cuddling up with a hot chocolate on the sofa was a favourite rainy day activity in this house when DS was small. I miss those days so much.

Prometheus · 01/04/2017 22:19

I take baths with my boys (age 6 and 4) and so does DH. Sometimes we all jump in together.

TitaniasCloset · 01/04/2017 22:19

Loved it, one day and pubic, sorry about spelling. I'm a bit tipsy.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2017 22:19

I used to sit on the loo seat and put my feet in my mum's bath water when I was 16 and returned from my Saturday job! I was on my feet all day so it was lovely to soothe my feet and catch up with my mum.

MrsDoylesTeabags · 01/04/2017 22:20

No it's perfectly normal and a nice way to spend some relaxed time together

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2017 22:20

Prometheus, how big is your bath?! I'm sure I'd like baths more if I had a nicer bath!

When I shower both my daughters get into the bath and I give them a wash they are 5 and 3 and love it will continue untill they no longer want to, nothing at all wrong with it.

ClaireH26 · 01/04/2017 22:24

I hate baths but my husband ends up with both dd's (7 and 4) in with him at the weekends! I think it's cute! One day they'll be horrified at their dad seeing them naked but for now it's really sweet how unashamed they all are. We are a naked house though.

PrincessJasmin · 01/04/2017 22:25

What?! Um, yeah you're very much misguided Hmm I NC for this because I had this conversation with my SIL today and I know she uses this site, but I've been here a while.
