@John_Hudson. Many officials at State Department today were completely out of the loop, as were key US allies, about imminent US strike. #unilateralism

But they told Russia...

'Something' had to be done. But to unilaterally strike without congress approval was a dangerous and unstable decision.

BREAKING: Russia says none of their personnel were struck by US missiles in Syria

Lweji · 07/04/2017 07:32

Oh dear.

Calls for Russia to stop backing Assad are naive. Syria had to had the backing and approval of Russia to launch chemical weapons. If the Russians didn't lead it.
Not discounting the possibility that Russia intends to replace Assad before anyone else does.

Putin claims the US wants to create a distraction from their air strikes in Iraq that also killed civilians.
He is not wrong, and such disregard for civilian lives may have given tacit permission for Assad to do his worst. And when I say Assad, I also include his main supporter.

Trump's alt-right fan base are not happy: Breitbart is seething with upset commenters. I'm surprised their server hasn't crashed. Most popular sentiments: "This isn't what I voted for," "Bye Trump!" and "Thought he was going to focus on internal policy issues - who cares about the rest of the world?"*

What did they vote for?

Trump clearly said he'd reinforce the military and wanted to start winning wars.

GingerIvy · 07/04/2017 07:45

Lweji It's an interesting thing. They wanted to reinforce the military and start winning wars.... but they didn't want HRC as she would "drag them into war." A complete contradiction. Apparently they wanted a beefed up military that did nothing?
