Have you heard the song they did on R4 last night about Trump. I'll have to get you a link.

AndHoldTheBun · 01/04/2017 20:46

Across- we are trying very hard not to discuss politics (our hosts are close relatives whose political views have been at odds with ours for decades, so we are well practiced!). One of the relatives in particular (who has never set foot in America), thinks trump is a great guy, a great, guy, the best.
My DH (1/2 American), and all of his relatives by contrast, are horrified at the whole unfolding Trump slow motion car crash.

GingerIvy · 01/04/2017 20:50

Across I have some Trumpet rellies in the states. I've had to unfollow some on FB to save both my sanity and the family relationship. They are hard core Trumpets and it just gets so maddeningly annoying some of the bile they spout.

I wonder with Trump if he's one of those annoying types that feel he is so clever and so used to people doing what he tells them (even though it's not out of respect it's due to saving their jobs), that he feels that he is persuasive and clever enough to talk his way out of anything. "Oh don't worry, I can explain it and they'll listen."

FairytalesAreBullshit · 01/04/2017 20:53

Aww I think you have to download the Dead Ringers pod cast from Christmas 2015.

But the song is amusing.

Oh dear god. This is a complete send up. Be sure to click on the "are you a homosexual" link. Grin

Whoops! That tweet about a primary violated the Hatch act.

Holy Shit! Someone put a whole lotta work into that Pence troll-site!!! Wow.

Problem is, in Pence's case satire is so close to truth that it's hard to tell the difference!

tweet about a primary violated the Hatch act.

This is absolutely true! I was subject to the Hatch Act during my career and each election year we were required to attend training and sign a memo saying we understood the limitations. People can be fired for violating Hatch. Gee, think anything will happen to Trump's staff member? No, me neither.

There will presumably be some successes for Trump over the next 4years - what will they be?

I personally think he will be reelected in 2020 because whatever mess eventually replaces the ACA will reduce payments for enough people who vote. This is more likely due to the recent debacle, as the new system will come in a few months before the primary.

cozietoesie · 01/04/2017 21:07

I'd forgotten about the Hatch Act. Smile

Thanks Pain. These are invaluable.

PausingFlatly · 01/04/2017 21:25

I've just been talking to a friend who has read some of Flynn's recent book. He says Flynn is mad as box of Nadine Dorries and clearly struggling to produce rational thought.

Which I have to say ties in with the bizarreness of Flynn making those phone calls to the Russian ambassador in the first place, when he must have known they'd be recorded.

So while that analysis of Flynn's request for immunity is very interesting, an alternative explanation might just be that Flynn is bonkers.

I know, it's a problem with all of this administration. A lot of the time there's simply no point in working as if something deep or clever is going on: it ain't.

SleepWhatSleep1 · 01/04/2017 21:30

Can someone explain the Hatch Act thing please? :)

AcrossthePond55 · 01/04/2017 21:58

Sleep it's the govt regulation prohibiting partisan political activity during duty hours and/or using official equipment, websites, images etc to campaign for/against or comment on candidates by Govt Employees. It's meant to stop an employee from implying official govt endorsement for a candidate or position. It's also meant to stop 'higher ups' from putting pressure on staff to support a particular candidate or stance.

Thanks

cozietoesie · 01/04/2017 22:03

The remark will also be most .......unsettling to 45's Republican 'supporters'. In the current context, doubly, triply so. A very very bad move. Smile
