Photos of kids covered in food - yuck!

AIBU to feel a little bit disgusted when I see photos of my friends kids on Facebook where they're absolutely covered in food, and the parents clearly think it's funny/adorable?

So many photos of young children with tomato sauces all over their faces and in their hair, or those cake-smash photo shoots where the babies are covered in chocolate cake. Am I the only person who doesn't think it's cute?!

Cake smash is just a waste of good cake.

plutohasfeelingstoo · 29/03/2017 08:04

Strangely enough I don't mind the cake ones except for the waste of cake. Tomato sauce though ... grim

TwatteryFlowers · 29/03/2017 08:06

I'm not so keen on the staged ones but really don't mind the photos where it's obviously natural. It doesn't really bother me what other people spend their money on though.

Itisnoteasybeingdifferent · 29/03/2017 08:09

I once met the original spagetti head.... as in the poster from the early 90's

MadisonAvenue · 29/03/2017 08:10

YANBU. Especially if it's tomato sauce or baked bean sauce or whatever. It's not cute by any stretch of the imagination.

ChippyTea16 · 29/03/2017 08:26

Def not the only one OP, I think it's disgusting!

dylsmimi · 29/03/2017 08:28

Depends on their age - a 6 and above year old not so cute. Baby weaning or a toddler with an ice cream smile - cute. Though a natural photo is best
Although I hate those cake smash shoots so staged and such a waste of cake

Applebite · 29/03/2017 08:30

Are you my DP?? This drives him insane, he hates it.

Can't say it's ever really bothered me!

Onlyaplasticbagdear · 29/03/2017 08:32

Yes this grosses me out too and my DS is one so he's frequently covered in filth. Weirdly I'm not a clean freak at all (by MN standards I'm a disgusting slattern in fact) but for some reason kids covered in food makes me Envy (not envy - sick!!)

BertrandRussell · 29/03/2017 08:33

Paint any better?

PenelopeFlintstone · 29/03/2017 08:33

I agree! I saw one yesterday which was chocolate yogurt or something. Revolting!

LBOCS2 · 29/03/2017 08:37

This one quite entertains me...

Photos of kids covered in food - yuck!
Doyouwantabrew · 29/03/2017 08:40

Agree op it's boak. Paint is ok though

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 08:42

God no - it's gross! Actually makes me feel a little sick. I'm not sure why it's supposed to be cute!

MrsJayy · 29/03/2017 08:44

It makes me feel a bit queasy especially if it is tomato sauce saw 1 with bolognaise all over baby and highchair there is usually a bit of snot too Envy

Rainydayspending · 29/03/2017 08:50

Meh to most. It's just food. If you don't like cleaning food/ mud/ paint/ bodily fluids don't have children or pets.
Cake smash = conspicuous waste "look at me I can afford for my child to waste luxury food". Dicks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 08:53

I don't have children! I think it's the awful photos that people object to

Asmoto · 29/03/2017 08:57

It's interesting - strangely, I'm squeamish over children covered in food but not over any amount of pet mess - it's not logical at all! Luckily, I have pets but no children.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 09:01

Asmoto Me too - cat poo, pee or puke is fine (and not just my own cats). Humans though... A friend brought her newish baby to a gathering,
She was sitting next to me with the baby on her shoulder and he vomited some milk - I ended up having to leave

MrsJayy · 29/03/2017 09:04

I have children adult ones though when they ate you just hosed them down i wouldnt knock on my neighbours door and say lol look she is covered in yoghurt and snot lol so don't want to see it on facebook. I also work with toodlers and i just run at them with a babywipe Grin

morningconstitutional2017 · 29/03/2017 09:04

Well no, though I suppose it can be funny if it is someone else's kid and it's not staged. Not your child - not your job to clean them up afterwards.

If this stuff is still knocking about when the child is a teenager then they'll be embarrassed by it (and an insensitive adult may trot it out to see what effect it has) if it isn't deleted.

I don't know how Facebook works and I prefer to ignore it.

ShitIForgotToUntick · 29/03/2017 09:13

YANBU. Makes me gag. I always had a damp face cloth handy at mealtimes and luckily for me mine hated having food on his face.

paxillin · 29/03/2017 09:15

I came here hoping for a thread full of mnetter's kids covered in food.

Levatrice · 29/03/2017 09:19

Yanbu. These people will
Look back in 5 years and wonder why the hell they insisted on sharing the vileness that is weaning with the world Grin it is not cute at all i cant see how anyone thinks it is

ZiggyForever · 29/03/2017 09:33

YES!

Vindicated! I always felt a little bit guilty for feeling queasy when I came across these photos . . . Grin
