Photos of kids covered in food - yuck!

AIBU to feel a little bit disgusted when I see photos of my friends kids on Facebook where they're absolutely covered in food, and the parents clearly think it's funny/adorable?

So many photos of young children with tomato sauces all over their faces and in their hair, or those cake-smash photo shoots where the babies are covered in chocolate cake. Am I the only person who doesn't think it's cute?!

I don't mind the cake ones.
Ones with tomato sauce or bolognaigse all over their face makes me feel sick.

Why don't you wipe your child's face and then take a photo?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 17:38

Apparently it's #makingmemories or some bollocks like that Grin

Tbf I don't generally find young children cute in the slightest so it does make me dislike these pics all the mor

Dairymilkmuncher · 29/03/2017 21:17

Just curious, has anyone found a photo of themselves as a baby covered in food and been upset by it?

MrsJayy · 29/03/2017 21:24

Well if there is a food photo of me it isnt plastered on facebook it is in my mums photobox up her loft. My dds would be mortified if i put old baby photos like that on the internet. Liva I have a hunch you are not that keen on babies Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 21:27

MrsJayy Grin

I hate baby pics of me and stories about when I was little etc so it's possible I'm slightly biased anyway!

Asmoto · 29/03/2017 21:27

My parents have got a horrible picture of me as a small child with ice cream all over my face - I'm very glad it's safely in the attic Grin.

MiddlingMum · 29/03/2017 21:35

I think it's completely wrong to put any photos of any child in any situation on social media until they are old enough to give informed consent themselves. So yes, I'd object to the ones of them being covered in food on that basis alone.

Also I don't understand why children have to get covered in food anyway. I managed to bring my two up without such mess and I certainly wasn't doing anything special. They had food, they put it in their mouths, or I did, and they chewed and swallowed it. What's hard about that?

Fruitcocktail6 · 29/03/2017 21:41

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why you would find it disgusting? It what way is it 'gross' or 'vile'? It's food. If you find food disgusting then how do you eat?

I don't have children yet, but I have never seen a picture of a child with food on their face and thought 'ew disgusting!'

I work with children and the snot is much more vile than the food.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 21:47

Snot, food, whatever - its gross when it's spread all over a child's face and presented as 'cute'

cuckooplusone · 29/03/2017 21:48

I am afraid I find this thread a bit weird, it's just food! I agree that the cake things sounds like a silly waste but I love to see kids getting stuck in and enjoying the pleasure of exploring their food, it's such a joyous thing. You seen like a bunch off odd bods to me.

Asmoto · 29/03/2017 21:49

Fruitcocktail For me, it's just a thing I find makes me feel sick; I don't know why. I don't understand why some people are frightened of spiders when I can happily pick them up with my bare hands, but I accept that they are frightened/squeamish, for their own reasons. I think with food, 'presentation' is everything - a meal set out on a plate looks attractive to eat; the same meal semi-masticated and smeared over someone's face is a different proposition.

moonchild77 · 29/03/2017 21:59

I hate it too. Just clean your kids face!!! Glad I'm not the only one.

DameSquashalot · 29/03/2017 22:03

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I wouldn't be embarrassed about a photo of me as a baby either.

I'm beginning to worry that there must be something wrong with me because I don't find it disgusting. I'm all for good manners too, but babies get messy when they're learning to eat. (Well mine did)

The cake smash thing is a bit weird...

HerBluebiro · 29/03/2017 22:07

I like seeing happy children. I enjoy food. I enjoy the heady pleasure of eating. And I enjoy seeing babies exploring textures tastes and experiences.

A cake smash wasn't my idea of fun (waste of good cake that I should be eating) but I enjoyed seeing my friend's little one absolutely go for it from tentative beginnings to full on fist fulls.

I might feel differently were they children rather than babies/toddlers.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2017 22:12

Those calling people odd - you know that people like and dislike different things, right?

I get it's probably unavoidable for the child to get filthy but photographing and posting on Facebook is wrong on many levels. I read fb during my lunch hour and it genuinely makes me want to vom

KingBob · 29/03/2017 22:34

Cake smash is just a waste of good cake.

100% agree Grin

Op, YANBU! It's mingin! 🤢 even worse seeing it in real life, my DN is always covered in food and it makes me feel physically sick. I'm always trying to get away from her so I don't end up with food all over me! Even worse that she's obsessed with my DS and constantly wants to touch/kiss him!
