"But also sad that it seems remainers are willing on Britain burning because they're not willing to get behind an inevitability."

Wtf?
Where is your evidence for that?
I'm a remainer and I'm certainly not willing on Britain burning. Hmm.
I think brexit is a mistake, but it doesn't have to be a disaster.
I'm trying to be optimistic, but blind faith in Theresa May and unending optimism isn't going to turn this into a success.
Many people are very worried; there are many, many risks ahead and the process has only just begun. Voicing concerns is completely different to willing them to happen.

BertrandRussell · 29/03/2017 11:30

I'm not sure what "getting behind the inevitable" means. What should I be doing?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/03/2017 11:33

I have heard and read on here that some hope those that voted leave suffer even more for their stupidity

Now that is hoping that Brexit won't work is it not ?

People I have heard it from also identify themselves as being left wing Hmm

MrsWhiteWash · 29/03/2017 11:37

Did seemed to be a bit of a theme watching last night's coverage - of leavers being interviewed already seeking to blame remainders if things don't work out.

I'm hoping my worries prove unfounded - I still have to live here.

wearily dusting off old passports once again.

Feel so sad that my identity as a European as well as a Brit and a Scot is being taken away on a whim. Travelling around Europe, have always felt part of a large, diverse yet inclusive community. Back to Little Britain values fills me with a deep sadness. No wonder Scotland wants another referendum. Didn't get a vote in the last one as resident in England but would have voted stay. Goalposts have changed. Being part of Britain outside the European community is a different proposition, so there should be a new referendum and I would definitely vote for independence from this kamakazi madness. The government can't tell us even now what Brexit will mean for the country. Now I'm moving from sadness to anger. Everything is arse about face. Present people with the facts about what effect Brexit will have on the country then put it to the vote. Not the other way round!! Oh, wait a minute, we still don't know what we voted for. Could be a disaster, could be brilliant. Let's take a chance...... No way to run a civilised country. Shame on the politicians who are more interested in preserving their careers than admitting this could be a huge mistake, doing untold damage to the economy and well being of the less financially secure members of our society. I hope to god I am proved wrong but I've got a bad feeling about all this.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 12:01

Bertrand, you should be draped in a flag singing the Kink's Village green preservation society at the top of your lungs.
Anything less is directly damaging the fortunes of this glorious country.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 12:02

God save strawberry jam, and all the different varieties!

Depressed, alienated and bewildered.

R4 this morning mentioned the contrast between the fireworks and the 'hands across the Channel' when Britain joined the EU. I actually cried. Such a shame that my home has turned its back on its neighbours for a nationalistic fantasy. All has changed, changed utterly, a terrible ugliness is born.

remoaniac · 29/03/2017 13:02

The European Parliament has issued its guidelines for negotiations - and said that the UK can revoke the notice if it wants to. I'm not sure what they are basing that on, legally, but interesting they've said it.

May has said there will be no turning back.

But the negotiations could be extended if agreement isn't reached and all parties agree - and if they're extended beyond the date of the next GE in 2020 who knows what could happen. Sadly I think the Tories would win again on a Brexit means Brexit ticket but you just don't know.

I certainly find it very interesting that the European Parliament has nailed its colours to the mast and said Art 50 can be revoked (personally I think if it could be, the Treaty could have said so).

GloriaV · 29/03/2017 13:05

I wonder if other countries will choose to leave.

Seems pretty likely to me.

Can't wait for that. heh heh

herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 13:08

Why can't you wait? Why the 'heh heh' GloriaV?

Charleymouse · 29/03/2017 13:10

Redundant

RoyFoster · 29/03/2017 13:12

I hope it will be revoked, but can't see it, tbh.

I feel this is Iraq Mk II.

When TB invaded Iraq, there was no plan for what came next. All seemed to go well, and naysayers were told that their predictions were wrong.

10 years later, it is clear it is an utter disaster, and hard to find anyone who admits to having been in favour.

justgothesolution · 29/03/2017 13:20

Gloria you are the epitome of Little Britain aren't you and the sort of person who makes me ashamed of being British today and indeed for the last 9 months .

Agree with you Roy it is so sad.

RoyFoster · 29/03/2017 13:26

No other country will follow. The reason is simple.

Every other country recognises that they are much more influential in a globalised world if they work together. As relatively small countries, the EU allows European countries to gain influence and gain access to wide markets. For most countries, this is a no-brainier. Look at how Ireland has benefited from EU membership.

No other country has quite Britain's history of imperial invasion and ego, and so they find it bewildering that Britain thinks otherwise.

ladymalfoy · 29/03/2017 13:29

I'm pissed off.
But this thread is just like parents having a basing row using the rules of Cheddar Gorge from ISIHAC

Bananagio · 29/03/2017 13:37

Gloria - ignorant and goady post. Why do you give a shit if the rest of the EU stays together now you are out.

The Netherlands didn't go your way, I am sure Germany won't and am hopeful that France won't. It has amazed me to see over the last 9 months to see how little the UK seem to understand various European countries, their electoral systems and their political parties over the last 9 months. If you are going to make gleeful predictions about a domino effect in Europe at least educate yourself (although I know expertise is a dirty word these days).

GloriaV · 29/03/2017 13:41

Sorry for the 'hehhehheh' - just feeling gleeful now the exit is started Smile

Makinglists · 29/03/2017 13:44

Pissed off. A big mistake☹️

AssassinatedBeauty · 29/03/2017 13:45

Is it glee at other people's worries, or glee because you think things are going to become better for everyone (or most at least)?
