AIBU not to remove shoes in the home

Generally we don't ask guests to remove their shoes, and my SIL said she doesn't either. We both agreed that when you go to the trouble to put on a nice outfit, it's ruined when you have to take off your footwear. SIL added that as we both have tiled/wooden floors in downstairs room why would you ask guests to, anyway?

And another thing, it's often not nice to be barefoot in someone else's home (at least in your own place you have your own slippers) and I'm aware that some people may feel conscious about smelly feet/odd unsightly feet/verrucas. Even if hosts provide slippers, would you want to wear something that's been worn by someone else?

Yet ANOTHER of these threads! They fascinate. I honestly never see a thread type which gets as heated.

The 'shoes on' brigade are honestly the most chippy and defensive bunch I've ever seen, thread-wise. Just LOOK above.

It's embarrassment. There's no way to argue that it's not pretty minging to walk a shitty dirty pavement then tread the same onto carpets/floors inside. There is no way forward except to shout PRISSY and UPTIGHT a lot Grin

Love it.

I'm with KityGlitr - I've no intention of asking anyone to remove their shoes (and will give my guests some credit that they will offer to remove them if they know they're dirty). And quite prepared to take shoes off if requested, as I always appreciate being invited to other people's houses - and agree: their house, their rules.

Shoes off in our house and I automatically do it when visiting someone else whether they have requested it or not

I'll tell you what makes me feel a bit grim. People putting their bags on the floor outside and then later putting them on beds / tables etc. Especially wheely trolley bags that have been through streets.

Yes, the bags thing. Put them on the ground by the bus stop where dogs wee, then take it home and put it on the kitchen table or worktop, then get the food ready without cleaning it. Lovely.

Or unload shopping from the car onto the ground, take indoors and - as above.
