AIBU not to remove shoes in the home

Generally we don't ask guests to remove their shoes, and my SIL said she doesn't either. We both agreed that when you go to the trouble to put on a nice outfit, it's ruined when you have to take off your footwear. SIL added that as we both have tiled/wooden floors in downstairs room why would you ask guests to, anyway?

And another thing, it's often not nice to be barefoot in someone else's home (at least in your own place you have your own slippers) and I'm aware that some people may feel conscious about smelly feet/odd unsightly feet/verrucas. Even if hosts provide slippers, would you want to wear something that's been worn by someone else?

I just hate it when people look down their nose at people

You take the prize for that on this thread with your frankly idiotic comments about having to be born into the middle class.

Peonyfan · 28/03/2017 17:25

littlefrog3 please, stop being so nasty. Your spiteful comments alone show that you have no class.

littlefrog3 · 28/03/2017 17:28

You're missing the point. I have not a JOT of interest in 'looking you up!'

And you're deluded if you think I am jealous of ANYone, let alone you, and your 'amazing fantastic life.' Wink

I just get tired of people on here boasting about all the wealth and success and education they (supposedly) have, and the business they own, all the properties and land they own, their numerous university degrees yada yada, and think some people need calling out now and again.

Half of what you say doesn't add up, and you know it, and that's why you're upset, because you've been called out. But I am bored with you now, so ta-ra. Grin

littlefrog3 · 28/03/2017 17:31

I didn't say I had class BY THEY WAY. I am just highlighting some of the ridiculous things certain people say on here.

Hit a few raw nerves it seems, as people are getting a bit weepy.

Toodle pip snowflakes. I have to go feed the horses and then clean the private jet PMSL. Grin

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 28/03/2017 17:31

Well this thread is going well.

mowgeli · 28/03/2017 17:31

No it all adds up. You're obsessed with being nasty. None of it is made up.
You've got your facts wrong.
You're really cruel and other women have told you this. Did you ever consider the possibility my husband is older then me? Hm. That might explain the mortgage and no its not more then half a million pounds. Actually it's a lot less and it's still more then your £175k remark.

ElinorRigby · 28/03/2017 17:32

Are the people who take their shoes off the same people who change into their pyjamas as soon as they get home from work?

mowgeli · 28/03/2017 17:33

Shoes have nothing to do with class it's a personal preference and furthermore I hate people who try to pinpoint others socially.
Frog has enjoyed winding me up and there's nothing more to say. Yes I took the bait but I didn't deserve any of her nasty remarks.
I'm no snowflake but I am a lady and I only want to be treated with respect.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 28/03/2017 17:34

I bet the shoes off people are the sort who wear knickers under their PJs.

mowgeli · 28/03/2017 17:35

No I don't because I am at home and I work from home so normally in jeans anyway. I wear an apron when I cook dinner then have a shower after dinner and put pyjamas on.
Anyway, that also sounds like a comment directed at the class system again which in my opinion is totally unconnected to people's preferences on whether or not guests and themselves wear shoes inside their home.

mowgeli · 28/03/2017 17:35

I actually wear pyjamas until I go to bed where I take them off and sleep naked. Put them back on in the morning. Anyway...

ElinorRigby · 28/03/2017 17:39

What I was thinking was more psychological than sociological. It's about going back to early infancy or (better still) the time before birth.

So you have bare feet or slippers, loose informal clothing - (babygro-like). And you have pale fitted carpet throughout and try to minimise/neutralise intruders in order to create a hermetically sealed womb-like space.

DanyellasDonkey · 28/03/2017 17:39

I've never been in anyone's house who has expected me to take my shoes off, nor would I expect people to take their shoes off in my house.

A basket of slippers by the front door Shock

TwentyCups · 28/03/2017 18:12

I'm feeling incredibly paranoid about my basket now Blush.

I'm going to have to talk to my mum about this - I must have been bloody dragged up! Grin

MsHooliesCardigan · 28/03/2017 18:17

What is wrong with wearing knickers under pyjamas?

ElinorRigby · 28/03/2017 18:18

Could people post photos of their slipper baskets?

Sharl2017 · 28/03/2017 18:20

If anyone comes to my house and doesn't remove their shoes they don't get much further than the mat. I'm not uptight I just don't want the dirt from outside trailing through my house.

ElinorRigby · 28/03/2017 18:21

... no better than animals, I should have said...

TwentyCups · 28/03/2017 18:23

I can't post a photograph because I've now learned it's rude and a bit disgusting Elinor - I'm nothing but aspirational working class scum with no shame Grin

SecretNetter · 28/03/2017 18:25

I have a friend who lives in stilettos...she's the only person I ask to remove shoes because I have Lino in the kitchen and heels bloody ruin it...luckily she doesn't mind!

mowgeli · 28/03/2017 18:26

Twenty 😂😂 you crack me up.
Must be the peasant scum we are that we understand each other's sense of humour.

ElinorRigby · 28/03/2017 18:31

If you have no shame, then you will happily show us your slipper basket!!

(The new penis beaker??)

TwentyCups · 28/03/2017 18:35

Fair point, ok I will when I'm home!

littlefrog3 · 28/03/2017 18:42

Slipper and sock baskets; the new penis beaker! PMSL! Grin

PMSL Elinor. The new penis beaker!!! Grin I have a strong feeling we won't be seeing pics of said slipper and sock baskets, and the little stools for people to sit on.

If the pics of said items are not posted however, I will assume either they don't exist, or the posters in question are embarrassed by them - and quite rightly so!

This thread is hilarious. I am aghast at some of the things people are coming out with!
