Sorry, Pain. That link doesn't work for me.

SanFranBear · 29/03/2017 23:50

See, this is what makes me angry!

The signing of the EO on Monday which means that companies wishing to work for the federal Government no longer have to show they comply with non-discrimination legislation for their workforce and which specifically called out for LGBT protection has been swallowed up by all the other crap.

No one knows this has happened because everyone is talking about Russia and Nunes and Obamacare and any of the many other horrific fuck ups so this one slips under.

Other characteristics such as race, sex, national origin etc are protected through other federal legislation but if you're LGBT, this was pretty much it. And now you can get a Government contract even if you actively discriminate against someone whose only 'crime' is not conforming to some societal and religious bullshit around who you should love.

And that EO that opens this wider which was discussed many weeks ago is still bubbling around so the fact this one was signed with minimal outrage opens the door to slide that one through.

Angry

There's too many awful and inexcusable things happening that something this awful can be ignored. Fuck this Sad

UnGoogleable · 29/03/2017 23:51

Apologies if this has already been posted, but did anyone see this:

Trump deleting Arctic Research citations

It's a sorry state of affairs when your government employees go into panic mode and start archiving data before their president orders it to be destroyed. They even brought in teams of hackers to access and store the data before Trump was inaugurated. This is the USA, not North Korea!!!

TheClaws · 29/03/2017 23:59

Ungoogleable, why would they want them deleted?

UnGoogleable · 30/03/2017 00:01

Because it's climate change research.

And climate change is a myth. All 'Science' that suggests otherwise must be eliminated.

To be fair, I think the article says that it's just the citations that are being deleted - as in, the web links to the scientific papers. But then they do go on to say that they're having to archive and protect their data in case it is 'lost' so they must be concerned about that.

cozietoesie · 30/03/2017 00:12

It.won't last, Un. They're being prudent that's all.

The deleting of citations is bad because it makes less-knowledgeable people think that there isn't any research backing up the citations so they start to believe the whole 'Climate change is a myth' narrative.

I was speculating yesterday about Russia influencing Brexit and the increasing isolationist positions of western countries and Rachel Maddow did an interesting segment on it last night:

Political strains within Western powers serve Putin goals www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/political-strains-within-western-powers-serve-putin-goals-909804099945

There isn't much in the way of explicit links or evidence of intereference but sets out how a lot of countries are experiencing anti-union movements and it mentions the newly energised California secession movement run by a Russian who lives in Siberia.
