"In short, the leaders of both parties in the Senate face a big challenge next week, and all eyes will be on what happens with each hurdle. The bottom line is that the procedure and rules are stacked heavily in Republicans’ favor, and it likely is only a matter of when, not if, Gorsuch is serving on the Supreme Court."

I'm not as despondent as some over this nomination,

UPDATE: State Department official charged with obstruction of justice, making false statements to the FBI - U.S. federal prosecutor

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 29/03/2017 20:34

I can't find any more information about who it was!

"The employee, Candace Claiborne, works in the State Department office that handles Caucasus Affairs, government records showed.

One official said the charges are expected to include lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

MrsT2007 · 29/03/2017 20:43

Yeah it might not be this FBI investigation might it not?

Senate intel committee calling 20 people tomorrow. Hallelujah for grown ups.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 29/03/2017 21:45

"The world is listening. And the world knows the reality. And when they see a president who is not grounded in reality and facts, or is not even bothered by them, that is eroding not only his credibility, but the credibility of the United States."

Douglas Lute, former U.S. ambassador to NATO

cozietoesie · 29/03/2017 21:56

That's a true thing. Thank Goodness for the US posters on these threads and for realising that he speaks for only a minority of Americans.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 29/03/2017 22:04

That man speaks the truth!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 29/03/2017 22:11

It is reassuring to know others are resisting the gas lighting.

MrsT2007 · 29/03/2017 22:11

That said, the FBI is sounding a warning shot: we have FISA warrants, and obstructing an investigation will lead to your arrest....

The indictment mentions a co conspirator too. Wonder where that might lead?

Brown trousers time at the WH?

www.cnn.com/2017/03/29/politics/kfile-mike-huckabee-treason/index.html

Ok, I got now! Leaking illegal actions is treason. Actually doing those illegal actions, that's not treason. See guys? We're focusing on the wrong thing!!! We shouldn't be demanding investigations into a presidential candidate and his cohorts colluding with a foreign power to influence an election!!! Nooooo, we should be investigating the people who 'snitched' on them!

Silly us! Silly FBI! Silly Senate Intel Committee! Silly MSM!

Huckabee's an idiot.

cozietoesie · 29/03/2017 22:18

My instinct tells me - and this may be the iced tea talking - that most people couldn't give a darn about any 'tapping' if there was good reason for it. Still.............

Lweji · 29/03/2017 22:25

Nooooo, we should be investigating the people who 'snitched' on them!

In good NY Mafia style.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/03/2017 22:37

Lweji Can't you just see Scrotus and Bannon huddled together repeating "Snitches get stitches".

Yeah, but colluders get impeached and go to prison.

Bigotry is the only reason to do this. The ability to display it publicly, and without fear of legal consequences. thkpr.gs/8dd0e3be69a

AcrossthePond55 · 29/03/2017 22:40

cozie, I think most people would feel that the ends justify the means on that one.

I wonder, though, if all their hootin' and hollerin' about 'illegal information gathering' is in preparation for trying to get said information excluded from any criminal proceedings as 'unlawfully obtained' (i.e. illegal search and seizure).

cozietoesie · 29/03/2017 23:08

I think, rather, that they're badly rattled, Across. As they should be. Smile

cozietoesie · 29/03/2017 23:10

Not 'wartime' people, eh?
