You may be surprised that the FDA nominee has been criticised for his "web of ties with pharmaceutical companies"

cozie most people here are just gobsmacked. And then gobsmacked again. It seems like it just keeps coming, you don't have time to digest one piece of information before another one hits you in the face.

Have you ever seen on the game shows when they put someone in one of those booths, they flip a switch and money starts flying around and they have to grab as much as they can? It's like that. But instead of money, it's names, misdeeds, and ties to something rotten. And that's just Russia-gate. On top of it you have Scrotus tearing down everything that Obama built for us over the last eight years. To an extent, if what he was doing was truly based on his ideals and beliefs, at least you could see the reasoning even if you despised it. But it isn't, it's based on his greed and his ego. He's doing it to line his pockets and 'because he can'.

The overriding sentiment is "When will it end?" followed by "Let it end soon!".

I want to call Sens Feinstein & Harris and Rep Pelosi and beg them to tell me that it's all coming together behind the scenes and that it will be OK in the end. The Rep for my own district is so far up Trump's arse if he had a torch you'd see the beam coming out Trump's nose.

$1 billion to build 62 miles of wall / fence?

I'm not being stupid or anything but I was under the impression that there are ways of tackling walls and fences - and that's by going around them.

Or in the case of the USA, why not approach via the sea?

If people are desperate to go to a new country, people smugglers will find a way.

From that 2010 report

While only a small fraction of border arrests are at sea, authorities say, heightened enforcement on land, and a bigger fence, is making the offshore route more attractive.

The number of Border Patrol agents doubled to more than 20,000 since 2003, and President Barack Obama is dispatching the National Guard after clamor for a crackdown in the desert led to Arizona's tough new immigration law.

"I think they found that going west through the ocean is probably their best bet," said Michael Carney, deputy special agent in charge of investigations for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego.

Strange how Trump kept mentioning the wall and making migration through Mexico an issue.

The reason I asked is that I've talked about him and his administration on this side of the pond (NSS say some ? Wink) and the impression I've received is that they believe that, while massively corrupt and ......strange, he's not personally responsible for Russiagate. Just extraordinarily manipulable and, I fear, stupid. A sort of Johnny Iselin with added character defects if you will. (The original film for those of you who may have seen it.)

His 'Inner Circle' though? People here believe - where they know anything about it - that they're guilty of most everything. (And they regard the GOP, in common with most politicians, as just plain venal.)

I wonder whether we should concentrate even more on them than we do? Without them, he's lost anyway. And they're very very tired from what I've seen.

annandale · 27/03/2017 23:25

A lot of people are talking about placemarks, and nobody knew how many placemarks were being made, but I was right about the placemarks. Some bad bad placemarks have been getting through but we're going to fix it, folks.

Methinks this is a misstep from Trump. Not wholly unexpected, of course - misdirection. His version of "she did it too!" or "look! a damn big fish over there!"

After all, HRC was the Secretary of State. She dealt with foreigners. That is literally the position, if I understand it?
