Coffee, these aren't adult knowledge gaps! An 8 year old should know this!!

Greenifer · 26/03/2017 21:37

Gosh, this is awful. I would say something. You have to. For every child whose parents explain what's wrong with it, there may be several others who have parents who have no idea it's wrong.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/03/2017 21:40

I have a friend who teaches Y2 who has just put on Facebook. 'Love you, Mummy. Your the best x'

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 26/03/2017 21:40

do we even say 'thankful(l) in the UK?

For what we are about to receive may the Lord make us truly thankful.

Topseyt · 26/03/2017 21:41

That is utterly appalling.

I am not normally one to say complain to schools, but I wouldn't be able to stop myself if presented with this. It is inexcusable and should never have gone out. Make sure you show it to the headteacher, and I hope they have the grace to be suitably embarrassed.

The children in that class have no chance if that is the standard of the teaching.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/03/2017 21:41

Oh yes, Ivy true : but not in any other context...

It's quite American. But we can't blame them for this unless they changed 'Mom' to 'Mum' in producing the sheet.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/03/2017 21:43

To add to the pedantry:

dictionary.cambridge.org/grammar/british-grammar/grateful-or-thankful

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 26/03/2017 21:44

Been thinking about this. In the planner I'd put something like, 'Thank you for the beautiful Mother's Day card, it made my day. Just to let you know that the resource/typed sheet had a spelling error (your rather than you're). Just thought I'd let you know in case they are to be used again next year. Thanks again :)'

Bestthingever · 26/03/2017 21:46

I'm a TA and I am quite shocked by the level of English and general knowledge of some of the teachers in our school.

guinnessgirl · 26/03/2017 21:46

That's dreadful 🙈

Hulababy · 26/03/2017 21:47

I'm not normally one for complaining to schools over every little thing and generally disagree with the whole sending back letters circled in red etc. But ouch! That one is a biggie.

The child themselves writing 'your' instead of 'you're' because they are little and learning is one thing, but a pre printed, by an adult, list is not on!

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 26/03/2017 21:54

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkk!!!!!!! I need to burn my eyeballs!

crazywriter · 26/03/2017 21:59

Oh wow! I'd have corrected it. I really need to correct it right now. Yes and say something to the school.

My DH keeps tellIngham me that his school didn't put a lot of emphasis on actually spelling correctly in school except in English and I believe that is why his English is so bad (he's British so not ESL). My school didn't until my mum complained about it and I have to say that I'm grateful for that now.

Jayfee · 26/03/2017 22:04

majorgoods is right imo

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 26/03/2017 22:15

I have to admit that I took my DCs school prospectus, corrected all the many many errors in red pen, and gave it to the head teacher lol. She offered me a place of the Board of Governors! Said they could use someone like me Shock.

cochineal7 · 26/03/2017 22:22

YNBU would be my only response to this.

pho3be · 26/03/2017 22:41

I can confirm it is thankful!

Children learn the variants of Your in Yr 2. There are no excuses. You should definitely say something!

pho3be · 26/03/2017 22:57

Why does it say 'My Mums' at the top?? That is confusing me... its a weird semi colon I think?? MyMum; Although the other semi colon is different. Perhaps the awful font confused someone

She hated DD2 and me after I complained well yeah this is the fear. Wonder if I could make light of it & say something like ha ha I hope those yr8s aren't in again teaching dc your instead of you're ha ha
No no I can't blame yr 8s!

I am so tempted to say something but I've texted a few others & no one else is Blush the newsletters are riddled with mistakes so I think it's just not surprising

This gets taught as part of phase 6 of Letters and Sounds, which is covered in year 2.

ButtonMooooon · 26/03/2017 23:07

Is the bit at the top supposed to say My Mum's as in "My Mum Is". I know it still doesn't make sense and is wrong even if it is that!!! Clutching at straws!!!

The prayer doesn't say thankful
It says grateful

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 26/03/2017 23:40

It's been a long time since I've said Grace.
I prefer the Selkirk Grace anyway

Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
Sae let the Lord be thankit.

lemontoast · 26/03/2017 23:45

Yes, l agree Ivy :)
