To ask for experience and solutions for adult spots and pimples ?

As a teenager I experienced spots mainly on my chin and t zone but now in my late 30s have pimples mainly over my t zone . I've tried various gels etc but they always come back Obviously I could go to my Gp but thought I'd ask here first if anyone has had troublesome spots as an adult and did you find anything that kept them away . I remember being able to get stronger creams years ago( oxy 10 helped) , but these don't seem to be available now .

How bad is it? A pic would be good (if not outing) i would recommend the GP if you've tried all normal stuff in the shops and natural remedies and they're not working. I had to go down this route when i suddenly developed adult acne. It got so bad that in the end i got a hospital referral and got Roaccutane. Its very much a last resort for serious cases but on the way there the GP gave me a few things to try which helped temporarily.

Thanks Happy . Its not severe but very irritating as they seem to keep coming back If there aren't too many suggestions of natural / successful solutions, I guess I will need to go down the Gp route

I have same problem and also in 30s. I have found washing face in cold water has helped calm it down and using sudacrem. I found alot of the spot stuff to drying as now have combination skin so can really dry areas out where other areas oily, I find witch hazel in liquid form helps to. Since starting to do cold water my skin has balenced alot more and calmed down. I find I have to be careful of shampoo and conditioner I use as well as some are to moisturising and make my hair more oily and i get more spots.

La Roche Posay's Effeclar Duo. It's genuinely changed my life a bit. Also don't use harsh exfoliators and double cleanse night and morning. I do micellar water followed by a cleansing milk because my skin can't tolerate oil, but I know others have had great results with oil cleansing.

But most of all, Effeclar Duo.

I like Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, toner and light moisturiser. I get mild breakouts and tend to have a mixed complexion with oily and dry patches and this routine really works for me. Eliminating refined sugars changed my skin completely and it is softer, clearer and it looks so healthy.

Oh and I also use Elemis bliss capsules four times a year (they contain 30 days worth of capsules for day and night). They really do work at rebalancing your skin.

A toner with salicylic acid and no alcohol.

If it's hormonal (and it probably is, given your age) diluted tea tree oil is amazing, as it blocks the effects of DHT on the skin. Same theory goes for Saw Palmetto pills.

Retinol. Topical creme about £50 but dries everything out x

In my case a sympathetic private GP who wrote repeat prescriptions for tetracycline. NHS gp unwilling to do so.

I have the same issue, I found that during pregnancy when I drank about 3-4 litres of water a day due to being constantly thirsty that really cleared them up, it really is the best drink!!

Also, I found that cutting out dairy made the hugest difference, my skin cleared up with cutting out milk and drinking lots of water.

I feel for you OP, I have suffered with acne since I was 13...I am now 33 and I also have rosacea which doesn't help. If it's really tiny pimples the issue is more inwards than outwards if that makes sense. Do an allergy test, you will find that things you may have an intolerance to are what's causing the little pimples and general creams may not help xx

Using an acid toner every night after cleansing has really improved my spot-prone skin.

I like nip and fab salicylic acid pads.

Don't use any scrubs on you skin. Use very gentle cleansers.

I had horrible cystic acne when I was in my 30's, antibiotics and topical antibiotics helped. Ultimately I ended up taking roaccutane which solved the problem. Your situation doesn't sound like it needs that solution but the antibiotics may help. I used the la Roche posay effeclar cleanser and duo now to maintain things. I've never had a spot again though. Mine were total doozers too, it was a horrific time.

Dairy products are my trigger. My skin has cleared up significantly since I cut back, in my late 30s, but if I do slip up I can pretty much guarantee it will show up a few days later in my skin :(

Go to the GP, get some zinerit works well for mild acne and is applied topically by pen in the style of a big dabber. Isotrex gel is another great one. You could try benzyl peroxide creams but beware your bedding will bleach. You could pay £££ for all kinds of lotions and potions with anecdotal results but I'd just pay the prescription charge for something proven.

You can always choose to try antibiotics if topical things don't work and still not be too out of pocket.

The Emu Oil Well Acne Treatment Gel really helped me.

You need a serum with hyaluronic acid and retinol. You can buy them on amazon.
I went to the GP before I discovered this fact and spent 4 months using differin cream which made the spots worse plus giving me disgusting dry skin that flaked everywhere. The serum has made it so much better.

Another vote for Effaclar Duo I am now virtually spot free for the first time in years and years. It's powerful stuff and you only need a little but it really does help.

After suffering for years wondering if the spots would disatppear before the wrinkles started I found I was suffering from Rosacea. Now I take a daily low dose of tetracycline from my GP. Oh and when I wear makeup I not only use a good remover but now use one of those Clinique electric face scrubbers.

I have been using proactive+ stuff off the TV, and my skin is now not perfect but way better than it was. I did stop for a few weeks and used a Nevia toner and cleanser and I had a huge break out again. My son is also using the stuff and his skin has cleared loads.

My sympathies op! I'm in the same situation.... I'm 25 and thought (naively) that I would have left spots behind ages ago!

The awful thing is that with most skin conditions it's always trial and error- what works for A will do nothing for B but make C worse..... and so on! Getting duac (so) gel from the gp has helped somewhat, I still get the odd one but they tend to heal much quicker using that. I'd strongly advise just going to see your gp, I've wasted thousands on various creams, gels and lotions, all with varying degrees of success.
