To not 'get' Boden

ClarkWGriswold · 25/03/2017 18:35

Just that really. I've never bought anything from there admittedly but it all looks hideously over priced and 'samey'. I just don't get the MN love for it. Is it a status thing?

I own one Boden top, it's years old but still looks brand new.. Some of their stuff is lovely but I agree it's rather overpriced. My top was half price in the sale plus a discount voucher.

Flumpernickel · 25/03/2017 19:47

"'Ugh, team some Boden or Joules with a pair of PTA boots (flat ugly calf boots) and you have the 'mummy' uniform indeed.'

It's just clothes. Imagine if someone said chuck on a new look vest top, leggings and fake uggs and you have the chav 'mummy uniform' indeed.

Sounds a bit unpleasant doesn't it?"

Possibly, if you take yourself way too seriously and are easily offended by a light hearted comment made in jest. Hmm

InvisibleKittenAttack · 25/03/2017 19:47

I used to buy quite a bit from them, but don't now. I would put that down to pretty much every store is better for mail order now (Boden were very good for woman who didn't live near shops), and they do seem to have got frumpy.

However, their petite length jeans fit me like they were made for me, having tried other shops, just accept that's the shop I now buy jeans from. Tend to wait for the sales though, think the most I've paid for a pair of their jeans is £25.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 25/03/2017 19:49

At a wedding last year I complimented my SIL's dress, it looked nice and suited her very well. She said "oh thank you, it's only Bodenham though". Only Boden! Made me laugh to myself a bit, fuck knows how much it cost her.

I have a Bodenham top which I wear for work. It's quite nice but I paid £3 for it in Oxfam so quite nice is good enough for me

YolandiFuckinVisser · 25/03/2017 19:52

WTF is Bodenham? I mean Boden obviously!

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 25/03/2017 19:53

Have stopped buying their adult clothes due to poor quality and durability. I'm always looking for dresses for work but most of Boden's seem to be cheap man-made fibres and just not that nice, even when you consider the constant discounts.

The children's clothes are bright and fun but overpriced for what they are. Quality is hit and miss.

namechangeneighbour · 25/03/2017 19:53

I prefer Joules in general but Boden clothing is generally inoffensive, I really don't understand the hate.

septembersunshine · 25/03/2017 19:54

I really like boden dresses. They are plain (which i love) and fit me really well. I am tiny 7 1/2 stone with boobs) and finding stuff that fits and looks ok is a struggle. Most stuff swamps me.I just bought a really cool tight summer dress for around £35. Buying only end of sale is the way to go. I don't think thats over priced for a dress!

user1489261248 · 25/03/2017 19:54

Never heard of it. Confused

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/03/2017 19:55

Not too much to say about Boden, it's not bad for basics.

I really just popped on to say excellent name YolandiFuckinVisser.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 25/03/2017 19:56

I had a look at the Women's clothes Polly

A plain grey t-shirt is £18 with 40% off.

I'm not angry/hating on Boden (I don't care what other people wear), I was just saying I'd love to live in a world where £18 for a basic t-shirt is "not expensive". I flinch when Primark raise their prices from £2.50 to £3 for a basic t-shirt Grin

The clothes at Boden aren't my thing anyway so it's a moot point. It'd be boring if we all wore the same :) Primark is my go-to for everything. If I want to splash out on something smart casual I go to Tesco Grin

babybythesea · 25/03/2017 19:58

I love the kids stuff. It doesn't tend to follow any kind of fashion but is just fun, practical stuff. And it wears really well. Most of the stuff I got for my eldest DD has done her, her sister, my eldest niece and is now being worn by my youngest niece, and doesn't show any signs of fading. Some stains have been added on some of the tshirts but other than that, they still look good.
They are quite pricey to start with but we find they last, and last, and last. Which in the long run makes it really good value for money.

dollarstodonuts · 25/03/2017 19:59

The boys trousers are well worth the money especially if you have more than one boy. The women's trousers are great if they fit your shape. This seasons womens is particularly awful for dresses though.

LadyLapsang · 25/03/2017 20:00

I've shopped from Boden from the start. I still have a really heavy silk shirt that is well over 20 years old and still looking good. Some of the quality is not as good as the early days but I like the cashmere cardigans and as I'm tall I really appreciate the choice of long options on the trousers, skirts and dresses.Nice lace dresses this season, with some good colour options. Good quality children's clothes were an absolute godsend for DS who wanted to be playing sport and seeing his friends rather than being dragged round the shops as a leisure activity, although he only allowed me to dress him in the Peter Pan collar shirt once when he was about 2!

Pootle40 · 25/03/2017 20:00

I have a lot of Boden clothes. They might be expensive but they last years. I hate buying stuff from some of the other cheap shops that look shit after a couple of washes. You get what you pay for.

BlueBlueSkies · 25/03/2017 20:01

Love Boden and I wear loads. I also have an oilcloth Cath Kidson bag and tatty converse so maybe I am their type.

They have a 50% off sale at the moment. Just bought a couple of black cashmere cardigans and black dresses for work.

cromwell44 · 25/03/2017 20:05

I don't get the hate? They sell blazers, coats, pencil skirts, jersey stuff, nicely shaped trousers that last and jumpers, pretty much along the lines of other shops.Buy it, don't buy it; what's not to get?
Agree with Pretty Polly, Boden seems to bring out the sneeriness in posters, esp the PTA mum stereotype that wouldn't be accepted about any other social group.

JojoLapin · 25/03/2017 20:05

Very Reigate... Funny -and agree!

Boden work trousers are good. I really like the cuts and fabric (flattering). The rest is horrid and bland.

DaisyDando · 25/03/2017 20:07

Their socks are fantastic. HTH.

Flumpernickel · 25/03/2017 20:07

Grin dear god, it seems a lighthearted counter opinion to anything on mumsnet counts as "sneeriness" these days. HmmHalo.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 25/03/2017 20:08

To defend the expensive basics - their clothes do tend to wash and wear well, so on the "cost per wear" calculation, they aren't that bad, and if you aren't going for fashion, then something that will last a few years is a good idea.

That said the quality doesn't seem as good as it was and there does seem to be quite a lot more frump stuff, but for basics like jeans, long sleeved tshirts, summer shorts that don't expose your arse cheeks or be so thin you can see your knicker pattern through, they are very good.

happystory · 25/03/2017 20:11

Pricey in the first place maybe but I have Boden stuff that I've been wearing for years and I can't say the same for anything I've bought in Primark

wrapsuperstar · 25/03/2017 20:12

I saw a mum and daughter at ballet today who were both head to toe (including footwear) in Boden. Most of the items were nice in and of themselves but together it was rather strange and I felt rather strange for knowing it was all Boden too

Ellieboolou27 · 25/03/2017 20:14

I've never brought anything from there as the adults section is not really me, a friend who shops there always passes down her dd's dresses to my dd and I've always thought them lovely, dd always gets comments when she wears them, maybe I should shop there myself Smile

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 25/03/2017 20:16

The coats are great for larger women, esp on sale.
Kids clothes used to be awesome, not so much any more.
