Minimalist wedding dresses

I am engaged and looking for a wedding dress. I really like the look of "minimalist" wedding dresses but wonder if they're too plain? Obviously don't want to ask my fiancé as would want the dress to be a surprise for him and my bridesmaids seem a bit underwhelmed when I show them what I'm looking at. I'm a size 10 if that's relevant and 5'5". If you saw a bride in something like this would you think it looked elegant and good or just boring? Honest opinions please!

I wore something similar fifteen years ago, classic, elegant and doesn't date in your photos, go for it

grannytomine · 25/03/2017 18:57

I wore a minimalist dress in the 70s. I found I couldn't wear underwear though as it was clingly, not as clingy as one of the ones in your pictures. I wore a bodystocking and I love the pictures, no regrets at all. I look at the pictures and see me standing there with not a lump or a bump or a bulge and I love it and just wish I still had the figure. Why did I not appreciate it when I had it? Anyone who is a bit underwhelmed is probably jealous that they can't carry it off.

I love that dress justgivemethepinot

My mum made my dress, and it was a simple style. I wanted one with sleeves as I simply can't bear feeling cold. We got married in July, but the British weather is fickle and I wasn't prepared to risk it. Fortunately the weather wasn't too bad - warmish and cloudy.

Glad some of you like it - it's ivory - side view for anyone interested
DD is a size 6-8 hourglass 5'2" brunette with olive skin
Won't be wearing a veil or tiara just a messy up do with a few fresh flowers scattered in her hair

Gorgeous and so elegant

JaneEyre70 · 25/03/2017 19:17

I think minimalist is gorgeous but you need a little bit of detail either on the dress, jewellery or a really unique pair of shoes. My cousin's wife got married and wore a very simple long creamy Monsoon dress but had a gorgeous and expensive pair of red velvet heels. It completely changed her outfit. Pronovias do lots of simple elegant designs, I thought of this one immediately as I saw it in a magazine the other day at the hairdressers!!

Love Pronovias the dress I adore though (Niara the second one of the photos I posted) is about £7,000 so totally out of budget unfortunately!

I much prefer more minimal dresses OP, the ones in your post are all lovely. We're getting married next year, I haven't really started dress shopping properly yet but I think I will be going for something on this kind of theme/shape, not totally plain but pretty simple: romanticaofdevon.co.uk/collections/romantica/anabeth

I hate strapless dresses and big frilly meringue type things.

ExsitedBride · 25/03/2017 19:30

CraggyIsland. They're beautiful I love the first one especially. This is making me really excited now so many beautiful dresses to chose from how does anyone pick one!

I think minimalist dresses look fab - I can't bear the mobile meringues.

But a plain dress, as a pp said, looks better with good accessories - flowers or jewellery or shoes - to liven it up a bit.

margerybruce · 25/03/2017 19:34

My DD is wearing one of those first dresses later this year to get married. They don't cling as they are fully lined and they skim the figure. They are just beautiful on and very classy. Good underwear smooths everything out. The way they are cut suits full figures as well as skinny minnies.

She will wear a funky sparkling headband with birdcage veil with it and great shoes.

Less is more!!

exsited you have fabulous taste, I have just googled Love Pronovias and I think they are lovely designs.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 25/03/2017 19:37

I know! I'm generally a very casual dresser but I can be really indecisive when it comes to clothes which is partly why I've put off doing any proper looking/trying on so far. I've got my Mum and my best friend/maid of honour primed to give their most brutal opinions when the time comes Grin I do love both of those dresses though, especially the first one as well, and I'm definitely going to try both of them. It would make it so much easier if one of them turned out to be the one! Good luck with your search, it is exciting Smile
