I have a budget of around £8K, looking for something that will accommodate family of 4 with 2 x young DC (no prams though) but I still want it to be a bit stylish rather than just a boring family car!

AIBU to ask what you'd recommend??

We have a Ford Focus, which I love, and a Toyota Yaris; if I brought a new car I would try and get some kind of Hybrid. My husband is a technician and works for Toyota and says they are super cars, really reliable and hold their value.

justwanttoweeinpeace · 23/03/2017 20:33

I love my Yaris. Admittedly it's an old knackered one though. Very reliable, cheap to maintain, fun drive.

With 8k I'd buy a new one Grin

isseywithcats · 23/03/2017 20:34

we have a vauxhall insignia hatchback when my OH bought it it was 18 months old and he paid £10500 for it big boot decent sized seats

Glossolalia · 23/03/2017 20:36

Audi Q7, paid £42,000 for it.

SleepFreeZone · 23/03/2017 20:36

Fiat 500L. 2014 with 20,000 miles and I bought it last year for just under 8k

Glossolalia · 23/03/2017 20:37

Oops, sorry MrsElm Blush I misread your OP and thought you had £80k to spend!

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 23/03/2017 20:39

We have a bmw 1 series and a golf. You could get either for £8k.

elQuintoConyo · 23/03/2017 20:39

1998 Saab 95. Bought it in 2010 for €2,500 still going strong. No engine problems whatsoever. Fits bloody everything in!

We'd never buy a new car, only ever 'pre-loved' Grin

TopKittyKat · 23/03/2017 20:40

Second hand Renault Clio, paid £350! 35,000miles on the clock Grin

MrsELM21 · 23/03/2017 20:42

£80K in my dreams Wink

I'd never thought of a Fiat 500L, the kids would love it! We've had a golf before and did really like it, DH has a 1 series, I'd like one too but that might be a bit weird!

Nissan Quashqai, paid £9,500 when it was 5 years old.

MrsELM21 · 23/03/2017 20:43

I'd like a Qashquai too!

Kia sedona... 7 seater... paid £1400 and has lasted 3 years and been to italy and back twice on road trips.
It is in no way stylish (!) but its huge inside and we've had no issues with it apart from a very cheap to fit fluid leakage!

DrDreReturns · 23/03/2017 20:46

2007 C4 picasso. We paid £6k for it when it was five years old.

Happyandhungry · 23/03/2017 20:46

Love a qashquai!!

I have an octavia VRS petrol estate. Amazing car love it second one I've had. Cost me £6k.

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 23/03/2017 20:49

Im thinking of getting a juke.

amysmummy12345 · 23/03/2017 20:50

2003 Hyundai Getz, bought in 2012 for 1400 quid, just scraped through mot but on it's way out, need something bigger, since buying it we've gone from couple to a family of four! Hopefully buying neighbours 2010 ford CMax off them shortly for £2500ish...

ofudginghell · 23/03/2017 20:50

I have a punto evo grande.
5 doors a decent sized boot and very economical but funky and great to look at.
2010 plate and bought it last year for £4800.

OublietteBravo · 23/03/2017 20:51

I've got a Seat Ibiza (5 door, petrol version). It cost about £9k new, so a secondhand one should be in budget. I'm beyond the pram stage, but I can fit a games bag, a school bag, a laptop bag, a handbag and a trombone in the boot without any trouble.

IamScarfaceClaw · 23/03/2017 20:53

E46 BMW - paid £1600, ten years old, I love it- but it is a bit showy.....

namechange20050 · 23/03/2017 20:53

I have a Mini Countryman. 10k second hand. I love it!

eurochick · 23/03/2017 20:54

We've got a Volvo XC60. We paid 17k for it second hand a few years ago. It's a 2010 reg and we are about to sell it for around 8k. It's a bit dull but a good workhorse family car.

pinkblink · 23/03/2017 20:56

I have a mark 6 golf tdi, loads of space in the back with two kids seats, stroller is always in the boot and I can still fit a full shop in, really economical and only. £20 to tax, I love it

Boygirlmummy · 23/03/2017 20:59

I have a Nissan Juke and I absolutely love it. Also have two car seats- perfect. Paid £10k for it last year.

ConfidentlyUnhinged · 23/03/2017 21:00

I've got a Citroen DS3. Best car ever! I can get 3 kids along the back and it has as useful a boot as my old estate car. It's 3 door but my children are still at the stage they would be a danger opening doors into other cars so it works for me.
