Ok so I've found a lump

I found a lump in my right breast yesterday evening and have been to my GP today.

I was hoping she would say ah it's nothing, however I have been referred urgently to the breast clinic.

She said it's about 3cm and mobile.
Does anyone know what that means?

We are due to go on holiday 2 weeks today.

Wtaf 😞

Docs surgery been amazing and added 6 hospitals to choose and book. Sadly still nothing before 7th, but she has one last hospital to call to try get one booked over the phone.

Amazing receptionist x

Wow what a fab surgery. Fingers crossed for the last hospital 🤞

Etak15 · 24/03/2017 17:35

I think also if you can speak to the clinics and explain circumstances rather than use the choose and book you may be able
To
Be squeezed in - they can over book in certain circumstances you
Need to
Ring the clinic direct or ask the docs receptionist to ring for you.

The 2 week referral is standard - they have to do it within that time for breast lumps, but they tell you the results then and there so there's no worrying wait. I had a lump that was not mobile that did unfortunately turn out to be breast cancer, but I can assure you that the clinic was packed with dozens of women, and the others all came out smiling: there are loads and loads of types of completely benign lumps. Breasts are just weird.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/03/2017 17:36

I have a referral for 29th (this Wed). It's been 3 weeks since I saw GP and was told that's about standard. 🤞 for us both.

iwishiwasrichandthin · 24/03/2017 17:40

Yes good lucky very please come
Back and let us know how you went on.

It's good there isn't any waiting for results I didn't realise I would find out on the day.

For those that have been through this how long were you in the hospital for?

My mum gets these regularly. The size was a big indication for them (hers are 3cm or bigger) and smooth and mobile. They're harmless cysts and there's a big chance yours will be Flowers

Liska · 24/03/2017 17:42

Tbh there was a lot of waiting around - they did mammogram, ultrasound and needle biopsy (not painful like it sounds!) But waiting between took ages. Probably 3 hours or so?

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/03/2017 17:52

OP, this is the information I got with my appointment letter last week. Obv different health authorities may do things differently but it gives you an idea.

Ok so I've found a lump
Harree · 24/03/2017 17:53

I found same. Was referred to our breast exam bit at the hospital the following week. I was there a few hours, had a mammogram, a fondle from a specialist & an ultrasound before being given all clear with a fatty lump. Don't worry until they give you something to worry about. You're in good hands, our NHS is fantastic. Keep us updated!

user1471453601 · 24/03/2017 17:54

Iwishiwas, at my local breast clinic there's a big notice advising that appointments can take up to three hours. I've been twice for a consultation followed by a biopsy, then another consultation. Both times it was about three hours. Take a good book. Good luck

Crumbs1 · 24/03/2017 17:56

Mobile is good - but it may mean delaying your holiday. You could have a discussion with your GP about degree of risk and deferring appointment to after the holiday.

iwishiwasrichandthin · 24/03/2017 17:57

Thank you everyone for your responses.

Liska I hope you are making/ have made a good recovery Flowers

I am anxious but panicking yet

I am so thankful for out nhs and the wonderful staff.

Breast cancer is always rooted to something underneath it so a mobile lump is a good sign. If it's a cyst they'll do a fine needle aspiration, i.e. draw off the fluid in it and it should then disappear. The fluid that comes out looks like lager, and in fact this is what they call it informally! I had several like that.

It's if they do the FNA and only get blood that alarm bells ring. Which happened for me in 2004, but had surgery and treatment and I am absolutely fine now. Also breast cancer is rare in younger women, i.e. pre menopausal.

TheoriginalLEM · 24/03/2017 18:05

Is there any way you could fund a private clinic? i am not sure of costs but in your position it might be more "cost effective " than losing out on your holiday?

Iamyourmotheryours · 24/03/2017 18:07

I found a lump only a few days ago, waiting for the gp appointment which I've had to delay until beginning of april due to work reasons. I'm worried as my nipple area has changed as well.....but then the lump is mobile so perhaps I may just be lucky this time?

DagenhamRoundhouse · 24/03/2017 18:21

Iamyour mother
Your health should come before work. Lecture over!

Crumbs1 · 24/03/2017 18:31

My husband would be same. He wanted me to make an urgent appointment rather than routine even though a few days makes no difference.

Liska · 24/03/2017 18:35

Iwish bless you thank you! I've just passed 5 years all clear.

Iamyourmother I cannot stress enough how important it is to put that appointment before work, especially if you've had nipple changes. I am still here because I saw my GP asap. My cancer was aggressive but very early. Please don't put the appointment off. I told the receptionist I had a lump and she got me in the same day.

coffeeplease16 · 24/03/2017 18:38

I found a similar lump on my breast, it turned out simply to be a rib that had split in two. Hoping you hear similar news OP x

goose1964 · 24/03/2017 18:44

Mobile means that it's not attached to your breast tissue so unlikely to be anything serious. Saw this yesterday on a medical programe

iwishiwasrichandthin · 27/03/2017 11:44

Just an updated I've managed to get in at another hospital on 4th.

iwishiwasrichandthin · 29/03/2017 20:02
