To not want the generic Mother's day gifts.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting a gift at all other than perhaps something they've made at school (which I'm sure will be lovely but I wont feel any less loved if it doesn't show up), but I can't be the only mum in the UK that doesn't want any of the following that all the stores are promoting:
Prosecco or Gin- (have loads and would rather 9yr didn't buy Grin
Fluffy slippers and night wear
Bath sets or perfume
Scented candles.
Flowers
I'm not the only one am I? (I'd like a decent sleeping bag or something for the garden)

That's just it though. Why do shops adhere to the idea that mums like pink sparkly fluffy stuff?
I want a lay in (unlikely as church parade and taking stuff to women's shelter) and snuggle with my kids and a bacon sarnie.
DM's should jump on the bandwagon for mothers day. I want a pair of chelsea boots in purple. I KNOW I have seen them (maybe in my dreams) but THAT would be a great present.

Whatever, have a happy Sunday all you awesome Mummies out there.

I agree about Mothers Day being an over hyped, over commercialised day. I refuse to eat out on Mother's Day as I can't bear the tweeness of it all.

My dd on the other hand enjoys the whole planning and prep part of Mother's Day. She has been sending my dh texts for the last few weeks and has asked my him to take her shopping in Robert Dyas as apparently that's my favourite shop. I will smile and graciously say thank you when I wake up to a spatula with a bow on it on Sunday morning!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 23/03/2017 12:48

Mari your dd sounds amazing. What a kind thoughtful girl.

I wouldn't mind getting any of the listed presents from the OP's list. They all sound quite decent. Merly you missed the "Mum" mug off your list, the shops are full of them Grin

canteatcustard · 23/03/2017 13:46

my kids are all grown up now (legally adults but nearly grown up iyswim) and they now buy cards for me. I miss the home made ones, and have kept all the mothers day cards in shoe box in the loft.
I look through them and feel very lucky.
I have kept nearly every card they have all made, a box with valentine cards, and a box with easter ones.
I have a large box of every christmas thing they ever made.
I put them on show every year.
I have been given flowers and chocolates, but the cards with wobbly xxx are something to treasure.

wasonthelist · 23/03/2017 14:17

YANBU DD's Mum has made clear her desire for a gift voucher which DD and I have purchased.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 23/03/2017 14:26

I like bulbs instead of flowers, last every year longer - more value

Bobbins43 · 23/03/2017 14:27

I usually buy my own Mother's Day present but haven't been bothered this year. Might make my daughter pick out a card but...

hazeyjane · 23/03/2017 14:30

My mums birthday always seems to overtake mothers day (which is 'her day' anyway) and Valentines day is on dh's birthday.

I have got used to going out and buying myself something!

Blobby10 · 23/03/2017 14:32

For the first time, I wont have any of my three children around on MS - eldest is away with work and the other two are at uni/college. I have always encouraged them to give me a plant for Mothering Sunday as I'm a bit of a traditionalist and always give my own mum a plant arrangement!

Pumple · 23/03/2017 14:32

I'd like some bulbs too. And a box of chocolates.

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/03/2017 14:35

A nice hug and a lie in would do for me.

PutThatPomBearBack · 23/03/2017 14:59

I've paid for a spa day for my mum Blush

Soubriquet · 23/03/2017 15:01

I already know what I'm getting!

I'm getting a gorjuss brand handbag! I'm very excited m

Munchkin1412 · 23/03/2017 15:45

I'm out with some local mum friends on Saturday night! So we're all expecting a lie in. But I'm on a colonoscopy diet from Sunday so can't even have a nice meal - think I'm allowed a boiled egg or something 😳 I've never got anything except a card but I'm happy with that (she's only 2 so I'll let her off..)

icanteven · 23/03/2017 15:48

I don't want gifty gifts like in the OP, but I would be DELIGHTED to be brought a cup of tea, some daffs, a pick & mix pack of raspberry chocolates from Hotel Chocolat and whatever mystery it is that DD1 has made for me in school. I will be prepping them to bring DH off to source all this for me on Saturday. Smile

I don't ever want the kids to buy into the commercialism of Mother's Day. A day off cooking is all I want and even just a card. Have always said that to the kids. Home made all the way.*

MrsELM21 · 23/03/2017 16:05

I have chosen lovely new flip flops (the weather looks like it might be improving!) and a lie in, happy days!

Xmasbaby11 · 23/03/2017 16:05

Happy with any of those or homemade card tbh. The kids are enjoying the concept and preparing so I can't see it as a bad thing.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2017 16:08

I'd be happy with a card & a bunch of flowers.

Canyouseethis · 23/03/2017 16:10

Last year DP got desperate and I ended up with a pen!

Although to be fair it is a Parker, is my work pen and is still going strong.

I'd be happy with a card and a £4 bunch of roses from M&S. Also it will be a take away as I refuse to cook!

TheGaleanthropist · 23/03/2017 16:15

Mothering Sunday= Simnel Cake and Flowers.

Serialweightwatcher · 23/03/2017 19:39

I'd be happy with a card (homemade is absolutely fine) - considering DH forgot valentine's day or just ignored it I'm not holding out much hope Sad

Miserylovescompany2 · 23/03/2017 19:44

My little darlings have bought me a pair of Fly London boots which is a blatant lie, as I've bought them for myself and intend to pass them off as a Mother's Day gift from them

JaneEyre70 · 23/03/2017 19:46

Mine are all older now, but I've said time and time again I don't want a gift.......I'd rather they cooked the Sunday lunch and cleared up for a change, nothing special. Not money, just effort. Not holding out much hope though. My Mum is a florist and understandably doesn't really enjoy Mothers Day so I normally get her something on a random day.... and say I love her every day not just on Mothering Sunday.

Wingdingingit · 23/03/2017 19:49

Having a mother who likes to think you can mind read what she wants for all gift buying occasions (and god help you if you get it wrong).....I have a very easy, never changing, list of choices for all occasions that OH can choose from: perfume, flowers, cake, chocolates, something comfy to wear, pretty underwear, something sparkly, a great book, makeup. Easy peasy. I will always be happy with anything from that list.
I dislike all the pink plasticy stuff that gets trundled out for mothers day, but if that's what LO buys me it honestly will be the greatest thing ever.
Feel lucky to be a mum and will never make my kids feel they owe me for bringing them into the world by belittling their choices whatever they may be.
