To be worried

Sorry I'm posting for traffic, have already started a thread and had barely any replies. Not sure what I'm looking for really, a handhold or people who have been through similar.

Around 6-7 weeks ago, my ds aged 6 suddenly started complaining of hip/joint aches and pains. I put it down to growing pains.

3 weeks ago he went really lethargic, he sleeps 6-6.30 so is having enough sleep. His teachers started commenting that he was tired in school, told he has gone from a really happy active boy to quite irritable.

Managed to get him into the doctors, who checked him over, went through quite a lot with him. He's now urgently requested that he have full bloods done. And referred him urgently to a children's hospital.

He then told asked me what I thought they would be testing for, I have been googling and each time it comes up with leukaemia Sad. So I told asked my doctor that. He said that was a big worry and it's why he is referring him so quickly. He said the way my son has explained the pain and pointed it out it rules out other causes.

He's at hospital next Thursday, and I'm bloody terrified. Feel awful for not taking it seriously at first. I honestly just thought growing pains.

My other ds 3 is diagnosed epileptic, I'm petrified for what's to come for ds 6 now Sad

Would be grateful for anyone who has been through similar to reply.

Thanks for reading sorry if it's all mumbled I just feel so numb and not really explaining myself properly.

Thinking of you and your little boy, and wishing you the best.

Great ideas from Popcorn. My son finds anything needle related very distressing but he likes a wheres wally book and a teddy to cuddle. We've had help from the play team who put together a plan, with DS, so he gets a degree of choice in the matter. It outlines whether he wants to know what's happening etc.

Been thinking of you today OP, again please PM if you would like a chat. You'll be on my mind again tomorrow xx

Praying for a pain free procedure tomorrow and good results overall. Hang in there, OP. This must be your worst nightmare but you will get through this.

FlowersFlowers My ds got a terrible limp just before his 6th birthday and had a long period of tiredness & losing weight (8 mo or so) He had scan & bloods done. We were told it was possibly something that can affect boys in particular after having had a virus (fluid on hip or something sorry can't remember name) even though he hadn't had a cold as far as I can remember.
Anyway we got a call saying repeat blood test needed then he had more tests & turned out he had coeliac disease. He's now a strong and healthy 13yo.
Ignore if this isn't helpful just thought id share Flowers

Thanks for all the advice. Asked him what he wanted in hospital to take his mind off it all, he wants the sticker books that make a picture? Will have to get him to show me. He's got hot wheels, put some apps on the I pad and some books.

No unfortunately I don't have anyone who can join me. I don't really know anyone here, not long moved here. And no family. We shall manage though x

Oh, also,my son had a big operation last year and we packed a bag with lots of little (think pound shop) wrapped up toys for him. This helped for a bit. And Harry Potter films on the iPad! They got him through most of the painful tests etc

Laineypopps · 27/03/2017 00:18

Nobullshitallowed Just to say you are in our thoughts and hope it's the best news possible tomorrow. You may want to keep private and not out yourself but if you are anywhere near Central Scotland and would like a friend in rl, I'd be happy to support you and your son. If not, we will be supporting you from afar. It's utter shit when things like this happen, please know we are rooting for the best possible outcome. Even though it is unmumsnetty, have some hugs.
