Stuck between two baby names

I'm torn between two names for DS. I originally loved Harris but now I feel its not right for him and leaning towards Alex. Both names fit with his surname. Not sure if Harris is too outdated while Alex is a very popular name.

OP posts:

*Alexander ;)

Blueflowers2011 · 21/03/2017 15:49

Dont like Alex.
Love Alexander, my DS2.

TiredMumToTwo · 21/03/2017 15:51

Like Alex, think Harris is awful.

previously1474etc · 21/03/2017 16:56

The Cockney slang is Aris or Arris, not Harris. There is a story behind (sorry) it.

acquiescence · 21/03/2017 17:04

Harris is awful, sorry OP.

SaucyJack · 21/03/2017 21:04

"How can a name lose all point and meaning SaucyJack? I don't getcha."

It's just one of those names that doesn't inspire any interest any more IMO cos you've heard it so many times. Everyone knows at least 15- so it's noone's individual name. He'll have to be known as Alex Elephants29 wherever he goes.

"What are you calling the baby?"
"Alex"
"Oh nice"

The end.

EmmaC78 · 21/03/2017 21:08

I much prefer Alex but would use Alexander

happypoobum · 21/03/2017 21:09

Alex is much nicer than Harris

kimann · 21/03/2017 21:12

Alexander. People will just assume Alex is short for Alexander.. I have a friend who named her son Matt.... everyone called him Matthew which was not his name. A few weeks after she legally changed his name to Matthew. Don't like Harris - sorry.

marmitecrumpets · 21/03/2017 21:23

I prefer Harris to Alex

beautiebyqueenie · 21/03/2017 21:26

Harrison? I love that name x

deste · 21/03/2017 21:26

Harris is the nicer of the two. It is my DILs surname. What about Harrison, you can then shorten it to Harris.

1horatio · 21/03/2017 21:44

I also like Harrison. Alexander is lovely but very popular.

Harrison, Harry and Henry are imo really lovely.

madamginger · 21/03/2017 21:50

I have an Alexander, he goes by Alex or Al, there are 2 Alex's in my kids school, there are 9 Harrisons though.

CanadaMoose91 · 21/03/2017 22:04

Every British kid is named Alex. So sick of it.

halcyondays · 21/03/2017 22:06

Alex

pilates · 21/03/2017 22:09

I know one Alex.

Harris is awful.

FreshHorizons · 21/03/2017 22:11

Alexander (Alex) is a lovely name.
Don't lumber him with Harris.

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/03/2017 22:12

Harris for arse is cockney rhyming slang.
Harris =Aris ( sound the same with dropped h) = Aristotle = bottle =bottle and glass =arse

Brollsdolls · 21/03/2017 22:13

Alexander (Alex)

Cellardoor23 · 21/03/2017 22:41

Harris is quite popular where I live (Scotland) I personally prefer Harrison.

Alexander is also a lovely name. Alexander was on the list when I choosing names for my DS. If you're worried about its popularity, how about Alasdair?

allowlsthinkalot · 21/03/2017 22:46

Harris = arse. Round here we say it with the H. As in "pain in the Harris". It may originally be Cockney rhyming slang but it's what it means here.

Alexander / Alex all the way.

Blueflowers2011 · 22/03/2017 08:38

Haris (this spelling) is actually a lovely name too and popular in the Med, I think both your choices are lovely, Alexander is my DS2.

Haris is not a fad name either, been around for years and very classical. Prefer that to Harry.

Think you should go with what you want to go with, people will always have very different opinions.
