Really close to running out of my stash of Always silk collection unscented pads.

Seems it's now discontinued and everything is scented! WTF has everyone else started using now, instead? :(

I'm lucky to have a pretty light flow, but still need a proper pad rather than a panty liner. Struggling to find anything for normal flow, without wings, unscented.

I really don't want to make the same mistake - I bought a scented pack (it was marked unscented... but odor neutralising... very misleading... I don't trust any of these pads marked "odor neutralising" now...) and had to throw it out straight away, the smell was sick. I know that sounds dramatic, but the smell was... something else. Confused

Mooncup...an absolute revelation. Have always had really heavy, clotty and crampy periods that meant I was changing tampon and pad every hour or so in the first day or two. Mooncups gave me these days back.

Cramps were less, no dryness, I actually find them no messier to use than tampons and pads...at least when you get used to them. There is a knack to inserting and removing them and do take a month or two to get used to...persist they are worth it!

fruityb · 18/03/2017 20:51

Tesco own brand are 75p and work for me. Have a coil so limited options!

littleme2017 · 18/03/2017 21:06

I bought a Mooncup recently but I tried it last month and had real trouble removing it. I will try it again but need to wait til a day I have lots of time and patience.

Until then I'm alternating between bodyform pink packets and lillets tampons

I'm also away to Google soft sponge tampons.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 18/03/2017 21:11

Shit!

All these people who say Always stink cos they are 'odour neutralising'. Is this just something people 'say' cos they are paranoid they do or do they really stink?

I have worn Always for YEARS, and I mean YEARS and have never noticed an issue with them. I have no idea if mine are 'unscented', 'scented', odour-neutralising', etc!

But seriously, wondering if I stink! I have some problems with the nasal cavities and 'smelling' is not something I am good at.

I simply buy towels for my periods. I have never cared less about who, what, manufacturer.

Now I should??

RainbowPastel · 18/03/2017 21:44

You would definitely smell the vile Always pads from across the room.

Bangkokbaby · 18/03/2017 22:14

I can remember the smell of them now. I haven't worn them for over 2 years!

catkind · 18/03/2017 22:16

Banging, the scent was vaguely annoying when i opened them and really stinky when disposing of them, much more so than just the smell of blood to me. I'm generally fairly sensitive to artificial smells, hate air so-called fresheners etc. I can't detect what SP others are wearing from across the room though, doubt you smell to other people.

Gighasmokedhalibutisawesome · 18/03/2017 22:29

banging
You would definitely know, as other posters have said. Unless you have no sense of smell whatsoever.

I have used Always ultra forever with no issue. In the last 12/18 months I have found it increasingly impossible to find unscented ones even if they do exist. But you may have been luckier.

I kept a legacy one for absolute emergencies in a bathroom cupboard and the whole cupboard reeks. Even our cats are appalled and wrinkle their noses.Shock

Gighasmokedhalibutisawesome · 18/03/2017 22:31

Er, hasty clarification! by "legacy" I do not mean used
Blush

bluesbaby · 18/03/2017 22:40

Thanks everyone! I'm a little scared of the mooncup to be honest, I like the fact that I can take my pants off, and there's no blood hanging around inside me. For various reasons, some of which may be tmi.

banging it's like pot pourri in yours pants. I can smell others wearing these scented pads in the gym changing rooms, and the gym. Especially potent when we're all sweaty! I mean, none of us smell good, but I feel bad that it's basically like a neon sign telling everyone that they're on their period. It's not discreet at all.

OP get some scrundies they're the same as csp's

Lushka · 18/03/2017 23:05

I'm scared of mooncups too. I remember reading about one getting stuck and the user having to do star jumps to release the seal.

I'd worry that the suction would cause a prolapse!

DIYandEatCake · 19/03/2017 00:44

WAShable pads are great - unscented, very soft and comfortable and amazingly absorbent. I thought they'd be gross but actually they're so much nicer than the sweaty, plastic disposable ones - I'd never go back now. Much less waste too obviously.

FlorisApple · 19/03/2017 01:06

I could actually smell an Always pad when I walked past a mum at school the other day. revolting.
I use a mooncup, but these Thinx period pants keep popping up on fb ads, and I'm thinking of trying them. Disclaimer: I have not tried them yet, so maybe they're crap, and they are quite pricey. www.shethinx.com/ Anyone tried them?

floatyjosmum · 19/03/2017 01:31

moon cup and panty liners. once you've tried it you'll never go back - saved a fortune in the past year, no leakage, good for the environment and don't need to change as often

tumpymummy · 20/03/2017 01:21

Have never heard of washable pads. Can anyone recommend any? Do u have to do a separate wash with them?

Pacha11 · 20/03/2017 01:42

Always sensitive

OhSoggyBiscuit · 20/03/2017 03:03

I just use Bodyform in a bright pink packet. (yeah thanks for that design decision, embarrassing when there's a bright pink packet of pads sticking out of your shopping bag...) Never failed me, never had leakage, usually on some sort of offer somewhere and doesn't smell of perfume!!

SparkleSunshine201 · 20/03/2017 04:55

I use Kotex, get them from costcutters. I never use tampons or a cup as there is a slight increased risk of UTI's, and as I've never had a UTI it's not something I want to risk. As well as toxic shock syndrome.

londonrach · 20/03/2017 05:47

Strangely the shops own winged ones are cheaper and unscented. Bodyform. Look around. Superdrug own is good. Sadly always is now a no no. Really dont get mn obession with mooncup. Op asked about towels. I really cant understand why they scent towels now. Must be losing sales.

NikkiP53 · 20/03/2017 05:51

I know what you mean re scented pads - horrible, why are they suddenly so popular? Scented = itchy!
They play on women's anxieties of smelling "down there" which 90% of the time is nonsense.
I use body form, prefer them to always and fairly good value x

Sparrowlegs248 · 20/03/2017 05:53

Washable pads. I was in the same position, couldn't find unscented without wings. Was very squeamish about washable but eventually gave them a go. Honestly, they're great. Have a look at honour your flow.

usefultoken · 20/03/2017 05:54

I started with washables about 3 months ago. So much better!

Sparrowlegs248 · 20/03/2017 05:54

Oh yes and I used to use kotex. But can't find them anywhere now.
