I was reading some spoilers on Neighbours this evening and they were hinting at one of the characters who has just been conned out of $100K flying to London. The very first comment under the article on Facebook was, 'why didn't he just call the bank and cancel the cheque!'

Aibu to assume that this was a mumsnetter?! Grin

OrangeIsTheNewPop · 15/03/2017 23:37

OrangeIsTheNewPop · 15/03/2017 23:38

At least it was London and not Maoui

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 15/03/2017 23:39

Derli it was advice given to a poster over and over again, long after it was explained why that wasnt possible, and is now often used as a way to point out people dont read the thread before posting.

Cancel the cheque is a euphemism for something that has been posted multiple times by different posters in response to a thread, as if it were a novel suggestion that no one had thought of.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/03/2017 23:41

X post!

Schoolisback1973 · 15/03/2017 23:42

Derlei · 16/03/2017 00:03

And I'm part of a neighbours group and also saw someone make the same suggestion Grin

Is the new version something about not delivering a cake? That's where I first encountered cancelling the cheque as well!

GirlElephant · 16/03/2017 02:11

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Spiralblanket · 16/03/2017 03:01

What's the Maui thing?

NightWanderer · 16/03/2017 03:18

Was the cancel the cheque thread the one where the OP sent a cheque as a wedding present but the bride and groom asked for more money?

Just in case people didn't know Grin

Btw, did anyone mention to the OP to cancel the cheque?

WalkingInTheAir13 · 16/03/2017 05:53

Alongside Spiralbanket , I've long wondered what is the Maui thing?

The Elderly Korean Lady too?

RNBrie · 16/03/2017 06:41

Maui was a bridezilla who was whinging that no one was coming to her destination wedding. She was resoundingly told she was being unreasonable but couldn't see anyone else's point of view. But it's Maui

ememem84 · 16/03/2017 06:48

Oooh dh sat next to an elderly Korean lady on a plane from Auckland to queens town earlier this week. He told me and I had a giggle.

OrangeIsTheNewPop · 16/03/2017 07:20

I saw someone Trexing in Tesco the other day and sniggered 😂

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/03/2017 09:44

You horrors! Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 16/03/2017 09:47

Cancel the cheque is also a widely used phrase in the non-MN world Confused

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/03/2017 09:49

Is there a world beyond MN? I remain unconvinced.
