Are my portion sizes adequate

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 20:06

So recently I switched from my large white dinner plates to my sons plastic ikea ones (can't remember the name but they're their most popular kids plates and are used in their cafes too).

A few people have suggested my portion sizes are not big enough so I was just looking for opinions on here.

Apart from these pics I've had:

1 four finger kit Kat, American cup size of strawberries, 1 banana, 2 'my first yogurts' from Rachel's organic, 1 fish finger (leftover by my son).

I've also had a skinny latte no sugar, 3 cups of coffee with 1 sugar each and a diet lemonade.

Does that seem enough calories? I know you're not experts but just after opinions really.

The food is 2 slices wholemeal bread with Nutella (on a normal plate) and banana, cous cous with turkey breast meatloaf, a wholemeal thin and veg, baked potato with beef burger and veg.

Very few women need to eat 2000 calories a day to maintain weight. To me that looks like loads of food even on small plates - the Nutella and banana on toast would be enough for me!

madein1995 · 14/03/2017 21:45

I think that's enough food, you're not eating silly small portions anyway Smile but shocked that people think it's too much, or that the snacks are awful (bit of fruit, kit kat and yogurt is hardly ott). Today for eg I had fruit/yog for breakfast, kit kat mid morning, chicken pitta/fruit/cereal bar for lunch, pasta/meatballs for tea and another kit kat and I'm still losing weight. To some people it may be too much but I wouldn't bother much - long as what you're eating is vaguely healthy then eat to satisfy yourself, don't be hungry cos someone has told you thats what you 'should' be eating

WaitrosePigeon · 14/03/2017 21:50
  1. too much sugar in your diet
  2. portions too big
AppleAndBlackberry · 14/03/2017 21:54

I think your height does make a difference to how many calories you need. FWIW I'm a size 12 and I eat more than that although I should probably eat less! I don't get much exercise though.

LostMyDotBrain · 14/03/2017 21:58

Slightly off topic, but can normal plates not go in the dishwasher then? I don't think I've ever seen run of the mill dinner sets that can't go in Confused

Sweets101 · 14/03/2017 22:01

Maybe OP's plates are fancy. It happens

Sweets101 · 14/03/2017 22:02

portions too big 😂

LostMyDotBrain · 14/03/2017 22:22

I'd probably eat from kiddy plates if the only other ones I had were fancy Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 14/03/2017 22:25

Not sure what's funny Hmm

Too big, in my opinion.

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 14/03/2017 22:29

I also eat my meals off side plates or ikea childrens plates when lazy Grin

Sweets101 · 14/03/2017 22:30

It's 3 meatballs a tablespoon of mash and same of veg with a bit of gravy.
Don't be fooled by a small plate.

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 22:32

It's three 5% fat meatballs.
A medium sized baked potato and veg.

It's about 400 calories of food maximum.

What's the point of this thread, OP?

Everyone has said that they don't think you're eating too little. That's what you were asking. You've got the answer you were after, I assume.

WaitrosePigeon · 14/03/2017 22:36

Im going by what I see Smile

PickAChew · 14/03/2017 22:41

I have those plates, btw. They are tiny - I stack them on top of my side plates in the cupboard.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 14/03/2017 22:43

Just as a matter of interest I added up all my calories today in My Fitness Pal and it came to a whopping 3676 (I have to admit to being pretty shocked by that), I'm a bit taller than the OP, size 8/10, my weight is very stable at just under 10 stone and this was a pretty typical day for me.

I'm also a lazy arse.

So my extremely scientific method has concluded that OP could be losing weight on her currently calorie intake.

allchattedout · 14/03/2017 22:44

that isn't 'loads of food' like people are saying. They are small portions and it probably works out to just under 2000 a day, which could be why you are losing a little weight, especially if you also exercise. Here is the estimated calorie intake (based on MFP)

Toast and nutella- 300
Potato and meatballs- 450
Cous Cous salad- 450
Kitkat- 230
Yoghurts-160
Sugar- (3x16) 48
Skinny latte- 120
Banana- 90
Strawberries- 50

Total: 1898

allchattedout · 14/03/2017 22:46

Too big, in my opinion

Well, WaitrosePigeon I guess you would say that, having the appetite of a bird.

AYankinSpanx · 14/03/2017 22:57

OP, I"m sure we could all be more helpful to you if you gave an idea - as mentioned up thread - of what you want from this thread.

Your replies are very brief and you're not really engaging with any the posters who are commenting on your thread.

Wondermoomin · 14/03/2017 22:59

What's the point of this thread, OP?

Is it a humblebrag to show how much you can eat and stay slim, nay, lose weight?

It looks like plenty of food to me (we have those plates too). Definitely too much sugar though.

I don't really get the point of the thread either. If you're losing weight and don't want to, slightly increase the nutritionally sound parts of your meals.

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 23:02

all chatted out. Thank you!!!

This helps me understand how I'm losing weight. I do need 2000 roughly to lose weight.

I also never have cheat days, takeaways, white bread, eat out. So this is how I eat day to day.

I used to have a dessert but stopped and I think my portions were bigger before. I will add a little more to my meals and see if my weight stablises.

What a baffling thread.

I eat my lunch from one of these plates (a purple one). Nobody at work seems to nick it so that works for me. I think they are fine for a decent meal, if not a roast dinner affair.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/03/2017 23:08

Skinny latte is very high on sugar. Skimmed milk has much more sugar than full fat milk.

No it doesn't. It is very slightly more concentrated than full fat. But the difference in sugar is marginal.

It's slimmed to remove fat. Not add sugar.

Have a read here

MaidOfStars · 14/03/2017 23:12

Swap Nutella for peanut butter. Full fat latte. The odd cheat day.

I don't get how you've missed the rather obvious 'I'm losing weight, perhaps I should eat more' relationship?

I suspect a stealth boast too.
