Are my portion sizes adequate

So recently I switched from my large white dinner plates to my sons plastic ikea ones (can't remember the name but they're their most popular kids plates and are used in their cafes too).

A few people have suggested my portion sizes are not big enough so I was just looking for opinions on here.

Apart from these pics I've had:

1 four finger kit Kat, American cup size of strawberries, 1 banana, 2 'my first yogurts' from Rachel's organic, 1 fish finger (leftover by my son).

I've also had a skinny latte no sugar, 3 cups of coffee with 1 sugar each and a diet lemonade.

Does that seem enough calories? I know you're not experts but just after opinions really.

The food is 2 slices wholemeal bread with Nutella (on a normal plate) and banana, cous cous with turkey breast meatloaf, a wholemeal thin and veg, baked potato with beef burger and veg.

It just looks like you've squashed the same 'big' plate portions on to kids plates Grin

TBH the brightly coloured plastic would probably put me off, so I might eat less that way I guess

gamerchick · 14/03/2017 20:28

So if your weight is fine why have you changed the size of the plate? It's piled up so I don't see the point Confused

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 20:28

I drink water too.

I didn't switch deliberately. It was laziness more than anything. They're dishwasher proof and mine weren't. Blush

They're 19cm diameter :-D

I think everyone saying it a lot would be surprised if you put the food on a normal plate, without a normal plate in the picture it's hard to judge how small the plates are

PurpleDaisies · 14/03/2017 20:31

Why don't you buy some normal sized plates that are dishwasher safe so you can judge your portion properly? I can't really see how much you're eating but if you're losing weight and don't want to be, I eat a bit more.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 14/03/2017 20:34

Yup. I personally think you ate a lot today. If it was just that in the pics? Sure. But also the snacking...?

HOWEVER
I'm coming to realise that I myself have massive food related issues. Probably why I immediately clicked on this thread, tbh :(

So... Yeah. Don't trust my judgement, I guess.

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 20:34

Yeah people aren't realising how small these plates are! They're for toddlers.

I hadn't considered the need for an adult plate before, but I will go back to them I think as I'm losing weight. It tricks your mind into thinking you're having a load of food when you're not.

The burgers are actually squashed meatballs. M&S meatballs. So it's the same as one 1/4 pounder.

Taking the little plate situation into consideration, it looks fine. More than what I eat but I'm in the process of losing weight.

Are you just asking because you've had a couple of comments saying you don't eat much? Hmm

KitKat1985 · 14/03/2017 20:37

Hard to tell without some sense of scale. Can you post a picture of the toddler plate and a normal plate side-by-side?

But personally that looks like plenty of food to me.

SparklyLeprechaun · 14/03/2017 20:37

2 pieces of toast with a banana and Nutella are 400-450 calories plus ~500 calories in snacks. Couscous meal about 500 calories, baked potatoe meal about the same. That is loads of food. I can't see how you can be losing weight on that.

ArriettyClock1 · 14/03/2017 20:38

That's masses of food! But if you're not overweight, I guess it doesn't matter.

Serialweightwatcher · 14/03/2017 20:38

I've got those plates - they're side plates and diddy for a main course to be on ... use adult plates and eat properly if you don't want to lose weight - 3 meals a day, fruit as snacks and you shouldn't lose weight but shouldn't put any on either if sensible

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 20:39

The differ nice in size between a normal dinner plate and the kids one.

Dunno. Even taking into account the plates (we have some) it seems an okay amount of food. Just about normal really.

I'm not totally sure what you're getting at though.

triskele · 14/03/2017 20:39

People are saying you're not eating enough? Who are these people? That's loads of food with all the snacks!!

user1489509816 · 14/03/2017 20:40

I'm just worried I'm eating too little and not been realising it.

I do seem to be losing weight. I can tell on my face. My breakfast is probably the most I eat for a meal. Just wondered if it seemed to little. I know it's definitely not too much, no chance.

OP posts:
nancy75 · 14/03/2017 20:41

You need to use proper plates!

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 14/03/2017 20:42

Why don't you just weigh your food?

Maybe for a few days so you get a sense f what you're actually eating...?

Ecureuil · 14/03/2017 20:42

We've got some of those plates and I still don't think the portions are tiny.
Just the snacks and the Nutella on toast will be 1000+ calories so I can't see how you're losing weight on that, I definitely wouldn't unless exercising a lot.
I guess if you're losing weight and you don't want to then the only solution is to eat more Grin. Maybe if you used bigger plates for meals you wouldn't need so many unhealthy snacks.

Oblomov17 · 14/03/2017 20:43

Looks like huge portions of food to me. And that coming from someone very small, who eats humongous portions, which most people are surprised at.

LostMyDotBrain · 14/03/2017 20:43

I imagine the people who've said you're not eating enough have said that because they've seen you eating from a children's plate and haven't been in the position to look at your full day including sugary drinks and snacks. I'd probably comment on it myself if I saw it. Especially if the person doing it didn't need to lose weight.

AYankinSpanx · 14/03/2017 20:43

Eat a bit more then? Are there any other factors that make that unrealistic?

Ecureuil · 14/03/2017 20:44

I've just added it all up (conservative estimates) and it must be 2000 calories.
