Muslim prayers

Amibeingtoosensitive · 14/03/2017 19:11

My DD (9) had R.E today
They were learning about Muslim prayers. All fine.
They then went on to get prayer mats and say a Muslim prayer, with their shoes off, on their knees as a group.

AIBU to feel uncomfortable about my DD being made to do a religious practice we do not believe in.

sea but you were the first to mention the Middle East ect... awkward..

You sound like your getting confused. Let's agree to disagree.

seagazer · 15/03/2017 16:21

Lets face it Jazzy the only one getting confused is you, the op started a thread about muslim prayers in schools, your first post was to immediately attack Christianity, calling it all a story....awkward. Seeing as the post was about muslim prayers my mentioning the appalling record of subjugation against women by muslims i'd say my mentioning middle eastern countries where it's even more rife is very relevent to the thread.

I could have mentioned that Islam was the most violent religion on earth,

Jazzywazzydodah · 15/03/2017 16:51

Ok sea so you are a catholic Grin

Christianity IS a story!! it was created by the Romans to pacify the poor - they then ripped off the pagans rituals so ye olde Britons would forcibly except it.

You honestly sound like a 'Britains first' supporter. I hate religion but I hate when people refuse to accept their religion is just as bad as the next one.

And your faux concern about women in middle eastern countries is laughable. You just hate muslims.

Bambambini · 15/03/2017 16:57

Yip, catholicism is so much more progressive with it's womrn priests and popes and all thise women making the rules on abortion and contraception. Protecting their pedo priests. But look - there's those poor muslim wimmin. Oh yes siree.

Wonder what people would think if the school had held a seance using a Ouija board to contact spirits and each child was allowed to send a message. If the school claimed it was to widen their knowledge and understanding of the other side. Would it be acceptable?

Seems to be the same as getting them to take part in prayer rituals and sending messages to a god.

seagazer · 15/03/2017 17:01

I hate muslims? what an absolutely but oh so typical response to anyone criticsing the muslim faith. Pathetic, it's like me saying you hate catholics, after all you've called it all a fairy tale. So own up, you had no fear of stating your beliefs. You hate catholics don't you., but i suppose that's seen as acceptable is it. What massive double standards. And no, one religion isn't the same as the next one, try google for who is the most violent, but do not put the "hate" label on me for speaking the truth.

Jazzywazzydodah · 15/03/2017 17:03
Grin
BertrandRussell · 15/03/2017 17:06

Jazzy-that was a daft thing to say.

I don't hate Muslims or Catholics. I do hate Islam and Catholicism and all other organized religion, though.......

seagazer · 15/03/2017 17:07

bambam so there aren't pedos in the CofE? You sound so uncaring with your "those poor muslim women" statement. As long as it doesn't concern you right?

Bambambini · 15/03/2017 17:07

The catholic religion has more influence/control over more folk in the UK than islam does. But lets talk about muslims in SA.

Jazzywazzydodah · 15/03/2017 17:10

Bambam save your breath Wine

seagazer · 15/03/2017 17:11

Btw jazzy you talk absolute crap with your "romans pacifying the poor" nonsense. Total BS.

Jazzywazzydodah · 15/03/2017 17:14

Ahhhh ok sea I see you ! Wink

Sunnymeg · 15/03/2017 17:17

As I understand from DS's RE teacher, a lot of emphasis in the curriculum is placed on empathising with the followers of a particularly religion and I expect the acting out of the prayers would come under that. I had reason to complain to the RE teacher as she had given them an essay to write entitled "I am a Muslim, this is what I believe". As we are not Muslims, I objected very strongly to this.

seagazer · 15/03/2017 17:19

bambam obviously it does, so bloody what. it's a Christian country. I don't give a toss that you don't like that, jazzy hijacked the thread and derailed it. We were talking about kids learning muslim prayers, but let's talk about the awful catholics instead hey. I'm leaving the thread, because i refuse to listen to the absolute BS you're both speaking. Fuck off with your catholic attacks when the thread wasn't even about them. Can't be doing with haters.

OopsDearyMe · 15/03/2017 17:19

I am with you , as a christian we are told not to worship false gods. When my daughter was asked to design a prayer mat, I emailed the school and told them that I was not comfortable with her creating a religious artifact such as this.

muhajaba · 15/03/2017 17:19

I'm Muslim and I think this is really weird.

Bambambini · 15/03/2017 17:20

Ah ok, just you catholic women know your place (at the bottom of the ladder) and let the men make all the rules for you - and turn a blind eye to the pedo priests. Woman, know your place.

OopsDearyMe · 15/03/2017 17:58

I am loving the infantile way those that have no faith , fall back on the supernatural name calling and sky fairies. Any their religion and you would be called all sorts for being so disrespectful.
Just because you have been unfortunate to not have experienced what others have, doesn't mean it is not real.

Plus religion is more than a book of stories, sorry to tell you , so all your bollox about roman control ... Yadda yadda yadda... Is another trendy, atheist mantra.

The reality is that the human race is more miserable are more alone than its ever been, the church used to be a place that brought people together, one might Arthur that since losing membership we have all lost something.

Not that all churches are losing membership , I know one that grows by a million followers at least a year... But that does not make the DM happy, so its not news.

As for Catholicism, that's a whole new thread right there and really isn't Christianity, as they honour the virgin Mary . it ought not be under the same banner, it certainly falls far away from christian values in many ways.

BertrandRussell · 15/03/2017 18:15

"Any their religion and you would be called all sorts for being so disrespectful."

You have noticed that I, at least, have a) not mentioned sky fairies and b) have been equally dismissive of all organised religions. The "you wouldn't say that about Islam" line is deeply tedious.

Cosmicglitterpug · 15/03/2017 18:16

What's the religion that grows by a million a year?

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 18:19

This is a thread about imitating/performing a Muslim prayet ritual.

And yet we're talking about Catholicism. I will freely admit that I don't know a lot about Catholicism in the UK (but do about it's story in my home country).

But this is ridiculous. This is about RE and how one should teach children about Islam. Not about Christians in Kenya, attacking th Christian believe in God or anything (or the Muslim or the Mormon believe. But for some reason these religions don't seem to be getting the same bashing).

Jazzywazzydodah · 15/03/2017 18:23

ah the good old days of sermons and pulling together

ollieplimsoles · 15/03/2017 18:32

as a christian we are told not to worship false gods

Oh Christ... You do realise that to Muslims, Hindu's, Mormons, Jehovah's witnesses and all the others, your god is the one that is 'false'

Why is the christian god, the 'real' one?

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact you were not brought up in the Middle East or Asia would it?

woodhill · 15/03/2017 18:37

There are Christians in the ME or there used to be.
