I was surprised to read that 90% of adults eat pizza at least once a week. AIBU

Why on God's earth would I want to make my own pizza?

The whole point of pizza is that you eat it while drinking a large bottle of red wine and watching some shit on the TV. Having to get up and faff over vegetables and sauces and doughs totally ruins it. It is also increasingly difficult to do once you're past the third glass of wine.

BertrandRussell · 13/03/2017 15:07

"It is also increasingly difficult to do once you're past the third glass of wine."

I manage every Saturday!

BertrandRussell · 13/03/2017 15:08

And because once you have had home made you will never want to eat bought again.

shovetheholly · 13/03/2017 15:14

I have made my own pizza in the past, and yes it is nicer, but not as nice as sitting the fuck down with a glass of wine and old episodes of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air on a Friday night and not having to answer a bleeping cooker timer to check on roasting vegetables/reducing tomato sauce/rising dough.

Plus, there's all kinds of clearing up to do with anything that involves flour. Grin

Once I get past a certain number of glasses, I don't even bother with shop bought, I just order Dominoes. Last time I managed to drunk order it to a neighbour's house instead of mine. Smile

MakeItStopNeville · 13/03/2017 15:21

We have it every other week, roughly. Always on a Friday because I've lost the will to cook by then. Always delivered as our local pizza joint is THE best.

K425 · 13/03/2017 16:46

LoupGarou DS and I are coeliac too - have you got access to the Dr Schar pizza range? They're pretty much as I remember pizza, and we add toppings too.

OP, we're among the people who have pizza once a week, due to ease of cooking on a particularly hectic evening.

WritingHome · 13/03/2017 16:57

Nope I definitely don't. DD probably does as she loves it and it is an easy meal to make if she has friends over or she is playing in any of her friends houses on a Friday afternoon.

I sort of like it but it really doesn't agree with me. So I very rarely indulge.

However every so often (as in every few months) dh makes (assembles!) home made ones with very expensive ingredients from an Italian deli in town and they are delicious! So I put up with post pizza tummy ache and bloat to scoff one of them with lots of red wine...

Marmalady75 · 13/03/2017 16:59

We love a good pizza in our house and we probably do have it once a week or so. Tomato sauce with veggies blitzed into it and a few more as toppings - easy peasy and tasty too. Our local chippy does a tasty oven baked one with absolutely no real nutritional value, but it is lovely as a wee treat.

Pinkheart5915 · 13/03/2017 17:02

We have pizza once a week, we make our own though well dh makes it, I sit with a glass of wine or 2 while dh makes it

The babies have 1 slice with some chopped veg/salad bits
Me & dh have pizza & wine once babies are in bed

AnguaResurgam · 13/03/2017 17:05

Oh dear, this thread is making me hungry and guess what I'll be ordering for takeaway tonight....

BabychamSocialist · 13/03/2017 17:08

We have a pizza at least once a week. We make our own dough though so usually on a weekend and we fill it with stuff we like so it's not as bad as the ones from a takeaway.

We have a takeaway pizza usually a couple of times a year and it's a treat for the kids. Mainly because the only Pizza place near us is Domino's and it costs more than a small house in Rochdale there!

joystir59 · 13/03/2017 17:09

Yes. Asda cheapest cheese and tomato, decorated with fresh peppers, garlic and extra mozzarella, thyme, and black pepper. Yum!

Birdsgottaf1y · 13/03/2017 17:12

Me and my Adult DD (who lives with me), go to a class one day a week, right by an Asda, so we get the DIY ones.

""It's fat and carbs on a plate"",

Which is just what we need, after two busses home at 9.30pm, in the cold/rain, after first leaving the house at 7.30am and possibly only eating once that day.

WankingMonkey · 13/03/2017 17:14

Well after claiming Friday is pizza night, just ordered a dominoes as I cannot be arsed cooking and I can get a large for 6 quid with one of their deals. So this week...we have had 2 pizzas. Though Friday gone it was homemade.

heateallthebuns · 13/03/2017 17:17

We make pizza every Friday. It's a new family tradition!

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 13/03/2017 17:20

We have pizza & salad for dinner once a week, it's quick and easy when I get in at 8:30-9:30p, from work after my 2 hour commute

HollyJollyDillydolly · 13/03/2017 17:21

We have pizza every Saturday either home made or shop bought. We eat it in the living room in front of a film, it's the only day we don't eat up the dining room table and the kids love it

joystir59 · 13/03/2017 17:44

My partner works a 4 or 5 days/nights on duty and 3-5 days off, so no regular Friday night, as in any night of the week might be her Friday. So pizza night tends to a night of the week when we are both knackered and cant be arsed cooking. But usually between once a week and once a fortnight. more frequently than that and we wouldn't appreciate it as a treat. We never make out own cos the whole point is that its a no-cooking night with trashy TV and a bottle of wine.

SauvignonPlonk · 13/03/2017 17:45

I'd bloody love to! But sadly its more like once every couple of months for me. DH doesn't like pizza and I'm a low-cabrer mostly. Kids have an oven pizza most weekends, though.

Hulababy · 13/03/2017 17:46

I like pizza but probably have it approx once or twice a month at most. Though I did have it yesterday, and had the left overs cold for lunch today - so just upped my own average this month.

Moresaltedcaramel · 13/03/2017 17:46

Can't remember when I last had pizza.
Apparently deep fried pizza is popular with my student dds mates!!

joystir59 · 13/03/2017 17:47

I love reading about the cosy family rituals being described here. I always remember watching Dr Who with a meal of frozen Birds' Eye 'Cod balls', with baked beans and other convenience type foods I cant recall. It was the only night of the week we ate this kind of food, and we did this because my mum, who normally cooked, worked in a shop all day Saturday. These rituals give us warm memories for a lifetime.

IDefinitelyWould · 13/03/2017 17:48

I want pizza now... doing 5:2 and on a fast day and actually salivating! Mmm... greasy takeaway pizza...before diet, pizza at least once a week was the norm, poss hence the diet... Smile

AYankinSpanx · 13/03/2017 18:00

That's a nice post joy Smile

Homemade pizza is brilliant for anyone trying to lose weight on a whole food diet. You can make them ultra thin, smear of passata, bit of whatever cheese you like (I find goat's cheese useful as strongly flavored) and a handful of rocket.

I sometimes do a thin one with black olives, sliced artichokes and an egg - it's lovely.

LookMoreCloselier · 13/03/2017 18:08

Dominos is our go-to meal for days when working late or nothing in the fridge, it's probably more like once a month these days, but when we were younger and child free we ordered pizza at least once a week, hate to think how much money we have given them! Blush We had a pizza express pizza tonight actually, between me and 2 kids, plus a big salad. Super fast and easy.
