I was surprised to read that 90% of adults eat pizza at least once a week. AIBU

pizza is not the same meal every week for us. so many different possible toppings.
we also have pasta once a week - again a nice quick nutritional meal with lots of scope for variation.

bertrand

I meant that there are no carrots in there when she makes the sugo for the pizza. the ingredients are tomatoes, yellow onion, basil, olive oil and salt.

And the carrots were just cut in thin little circles and put on the pizza. Not in the sauce.
And then she added the leek, the onion ringlets, the pepper strips, the olives, the parmesan cheese, the mozzarella, the oil and the origano etc. it was more of a vegetable pie, tbh.

But when we made it with the wooden stove the pizza was more traditional.

My homemade pizza is usually the same, I have to admit, although the base sauce might vary a bit.
In the good old days before DS2, the base sauce was kind of like a tapenade - olives, mushrooms, onion, red pepper and courgette all minced together very finely. Very tasty! Garlic or not, to taste.
Now, because DS2 really doesn't like olives, they have to be left out, which changes the sauce consistency - sometimes I put fresh coriander in there, sometimes Boursin cheese, sometimes both.

But the topping is nearly always the same - either tuna or salmon, with anchovies, pineapple, black olives and capers. Except on Ds2's portion - his is devoid of pineapple, olives and capers. It's a 14" pizza and it does 2 meals for me and both DSs (aged 9 and 4).
DH has his own with pig products and tomato sauce on. Grin

I'm eating Papa John's now. Tuesday is bogof! 🍕

FindoGask · 14/03/2017 15:57

We eat it once a week. Saturday is pizza night in our house and has been since my eldest, now 9, was a toddler. We all look forward to it and we all have pretty much exactly the same toppings every single week. Over time I've developed my tomato sauce recipe a little, and for the dough I've started doing a slow ferment in the fridge from two days before. Also sometimes I vary the cheese mix, but that's it in terms of changes. We are creatures of habit.

Bonesy1 · 14/03/2017 17:41

We are having it tonight now I've read this!

reiki73 · 14/03/2017 17:42

We have it as a treat every couple of months or so, and then it is a treat. I had it yesterday for lunch, as I was babysitting my 10 year old niece and my almost 3 year old daughter was also at home with me. My niece was with us over lunch time, so we naturally wanted something easy to eat. The chicken and pesto one went down a treat!

delilahbucket · 14/03/2017 17:47

We don't eat pizza every week. Probably not even every month. We love it, but since not being able to have easy access to my bread maker for the dough, I don't make it as often. Used to do one every 2-3 weeks. Yabu in that you have made me want pizza Grin

Dancergirl · 14/03/2017 17:56

I love Papa John's buster but we usually only get it on Saturday nights.

Mary Berry did a great pizza recipe on her show last night, I'm going to try it.

gunsandbanjos · 14/03/2017 18:06

I make my own low carb high fat pizza regularly, in fact it's on the menu for tomorrow. Can't wait!!

Sixoclocknews · 14/03/2017 18:08

I don't like pizza but the dc love it so have it occasionally, say every few months. It's too doughy and stodgy for me.

SquidgeyMidgey · 14/03/2017 18:36

I like the pollo ad astra in pizza express when we take the dc but not fussed otherwise, certainly don't eat it once a week.

mumof3boys33 · 14/03/2017 18:54

I'm surprised that many eat pizza. We have it about once a month. I have one child that doesn't really like it. He won't eat anything with tomato on (or any other fruit or veg!) but he has started to eat pepperoni pizza. No other flavour is acceptable!

mammamic · 14/03/2017 19:12

YANBU to be surprised.

I find it hard to believe. We have it maybe once a month and sometimes (when I can be bothered), it's homemade.

90% once a week - where did you read that?

SciFiFan2015 · 14/03/2017 19:44

Once a week here too - pizza and movie night is our Saturday treat. I've cut down the amount of pizza I eat and increased the amount of salad. We have tried to change it but the children love it.

PlayOnWurtz · 14/03/2017 19:45

Nothing wrong with that! I'd live off it daily if I could!

Astoria7974 · 14/03/2017 19:47

Not once a week but it can be healthy if you have thin crust and put lots of veg.

Katherine2626 · 14/03/2017 20:30

I don't know why some people get sniffy about pizza - properly made it' s part of the Mediterranean diet that is supposed to be so good for us, with fresh dough and a lot of colourful vegetables cooked quickly to retain goodness. I don't think it compares in any way to the Tesco horror that was mentioned - it can't even be real cheese they use as a topping as it looks like melted plastic and probably tastes like it too. We love pizza, and eat it with a salad, telling ourselves we are being virtuous.

sussexman · 14/03/2017 20:38

No source (sauce?) for the 90%. Not surprisingly since it has to be tosh. It's not veggie, vegan, kosher, allergy friendly. On the other hand, and property munchy box reference. And pizza..

My (teenage) kids don't like pizza. We must've adopted them accidentally

xmb53 · 14/03/2017 20:57

Probably have it once every three weeks. Pizza, that is.

Mustang27 · 14/03/2017 21:47

I'm coeliac so barely eat pizza but I'm pretty surprised at the rest of the nation lol.

pollymere · 14/03/2017 22:02

We hardly ever have pizza, no reason just eating what we feel like eating. Maybe once a month?

ChangelingToday · 14/03/2017 22:18

Just made my own gf this evening, haven't had it in ages, I enjoyed every morsel!

mygorgeousmilo · 14/03/2017 22:44

Yes to once a week, but never takeaway. I buy frozen ones on offer and then we all put our own toppings on.

hallgreenmiss · 14/03/2017 23:22

I've recently decided that our Saturday tea/dinner is pizza, (my day off from cooking). Can't see why people pay in excess of £6 for a takeaway pizza when you ca boy one in the supermarket for as little as £2 and cook it in minutes at home.
