This child is huge already for his age I'm not talking squidgy baby stage it's more than that

Gileswithachainsaw: Yes, it's a big meal for a baby, there's no doubt about that.

RitaMills · 13/03/2017 14:45

The chips could've done with another 5mins in the oven and lose the weird face thing and I would feed that to my 7 year old. Would've been far too much at 18months though, prob 2 fish fingers and half the portion of chips.

Did this thread give anyone else a craving for fish fingers? I had a fish finger wrap for my lunch thanks to this thread.

Screwinthetuna · 13/03/2017 14:46

Surely no 11 month can eat all that? My 5 year old couldn't.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 13/03/2017 14:48

We have people labelling whole food groups as 'junk'

People aren't objecting to flour and potoatos. It's how those food groups are cooked that's the problem.
Good quality flour used to make bread - good.
Flour used to make batter which is then deepfried:
-not so good.

Same with potatos - steamed, boiled, mashed? Good
Deep fried crisps and chips, not so good.

RitaMills · 13/03/2017 14:52

Does anyone really deep fry at home anymore? I know restaurants do but I would assume nowadays most people chuck the fish fingers and chips in the oven.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 13/03/2017 14:54

I know what you mean. Those chips look too aneamic to be deep fried, but even oven chips are coated in a lot of oil.
You only have to look at the oil left on the tray afterwards.

Soubriquet · 13/03/2017 14:56

Yes we deep fry here

I love my feel fat fryer

Trifleorbust · 13/03/2017 14:57

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN:

Well, firstly, none of that looks deep fried to me. Secondly, that isn't the main thrust if the comments I am talking about.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/03/2017 15:05

I guess people enjoy watching children enjoying their food and given there are alot of parents on MN who's children are incredibly fussy I think people are also just relieved their child eats.( I can't imagine having a very fussy eatter and hats off to all of you who do and haven't pulled all your hair out Flowers )

I can see how easy it would be to get carried away when people are often full of praise for a child who has cleared their plate (stickers in schools too ffs)

When really two carrot sticks a bite of chicken and a handful of peas would constitute an adequate Meal.

Leggit · 13/03/2017 15:54

This child is huge already for his age I'm not talking squidgy baby stage it's more than that so your answer to that was to steal a picture from her personal Facebook page and repost it on mumsnet why exactly? Does it make you feel good to have people agree with you?

Sorry OP but what you have done is really awful. How would you feel if someone did that to you?

IMO that is the important factor here. You should ask for your thread to be removed.

ComputerUserNumptyTwit · 13/03/2017 16:28

I reported the thread yesterday Leggit, but nothing came of it (I'm hoping it was overlooked rather than MN disagreed that it was not on). For me it's comparable to posting a photo of a friend to Style and Beauty for everyone to critique their outfit; even with the head obscured, without the friend's consent it would be a horrible thing to do.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 13/03/2017 19:34

People were actually objecting to flour.

Tallulahoola · 13/03/2017 20:26

I've got a 4 year old and a 1 year old. No idea what those funny shaped things are, but fishfingers, chips and peas? I would happily serve that up to both of them once a week. And I'm a naice middle class person.

Peas are good for them. Fishfingers and chips have got a lot of salt but as an occasional meal it's perfectly fine.

In terms of portion size - yes that's loads for a baby but my kids stop when they're full, maybe hers does as well? And shaming a "friend" of yours by nicking a Facebook picture isn't very nice, is it?

QueenOfTheCatBastards · 13/03/2017 21:02

I'd totally give an 11 month old that much food. They get bored if they run out of ammunition too quickly. Peas over beans was a wise choice, peas fly much better.

At that age my older two would have eaten maybe half that quantity. The youngest at that age wouldn't have eaten any of it, as most food was unacceptable.

PennyPickle · 13/03/2017 21:33

I wouldn't feed an 11 month old exactly what is on that plate tbh but I don't see anything wrong with grilled fishfingers, a few oven chips and peas. In fact that was my kids staple diet (at least twice a week) until they left primary school and moved on to more mature meals - like spag bol - which I now have to make twice a week even though I hate it! I would much prefer a fishfinger sarnie with tomato sauce Grin

Falafelings · 13/03/2017 23:03

I find it quite odd how this sort of food becomes an essential staple in a child's life. Suddenly the parents will complain that their children only eat fishfingers, chips and smiley faces! And I think, why on earth did you feed them that crap regularly in the first place!?

Radoxqueen · 13/03/2017 23:25

It's a Bernard Matthews turkey-moji by the looks of it 😂 I've seen them while food shopping a few times

To think this is huge
SugarLoveHeart · 14/03/2017 00:04

Turkey-moji? I'm shopping in the wrong places!

PetalMettle · 14/03/2017 06:11

@falafelings probably because you try different things and see what sticks. My son has always been slight/as a baby was very skinny. I'm not going to do him
Mash and salmon and watch him eat nothing for dinner

paxillin · 14/03/2017 06:13

I would totally eat that turkey-moji. Just to help the poor child, naturally. I can just imagine the salty, greasy, re-constituted glory... bit like cheap ham, breaded. Really wrong but very satisfying.

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2017 06:23

I am so glad others are now mentioning the turkey moji too. I knew I had seen them.

malificent7 · 14/03/2017 06:25

Looks fine to me.... ive no idea what the palava is.

roarityroar · 14/03/2017 06:33

Christ why give a baby chips?! So much crap on that plate. No wonder so many kids are so overweight.

paxillin · 14/03/2017 06:43

Fine or not, posting a friend's child's food picture on MN for all to judge is a bit off. Why not post the weight of the baby who is so offensively fat so we can all judge? I'm not on FB, but would take a dim view on any "friends" lifting a photo for a laugh at my life.
