Ds, fund raising and the yummy mummy

Ok so this is an AIBU on behalf of DS.

He is a third year student in central London. He is fund raising for Breast a Cancer Now. Yesterday he was at a central London tube station with a fund raising bucket, dressed in a charity t shirt, and underneath the t shirt and pink feather boa he was wearing a denim shirt and chinos.

Over the course of the two hours he raised over £200. I'm pleased, he is pleased and the charity is pleased. So why did the yummy mummy abuse him with foul language and end with telling him to get a job?

He is genuinely asking the question given no one else at all was quite so rude. He isnt bothered by the langauge, he isnt a precious snowflake, he genuinely would like suggestions as to why she might have been so rude. He fund raises regularly and has never been abused like this. Thanks in advance.

He was abused because some people are dicks. What makes you describe her as a 'yummy mummy'? Why not just woman?

Probably best forgotten. Maybe she'd had a bad day and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe she thought he was begging under the guise of charitable collecting. Maybe she was just a rude, stupid cow who dosen't deserve another second of worrying about.

Whatever it was well done to your son. I hope one horrible experience dosen't put him off helping others

I've been abused on the phone for offering to send a doctor to someone's home.

People in the emergency services get abuse all the time. Ditto retail.

Because maybe she finds the fetishisation of beast cancer difficult? Sorry but I find the "jolly japes" in the tube to raise money hard work.

My dearest friend is currently dying of stage 4 breast cancer. She is leaving a 10 year old daughter who almost certainly shares the gene. She is so desperately ill and a shadow of the vibrant brilliant woman she was just a couple of years ago. I can hardly think of the situation without tears when I am not with her as it is the only way to remain in control when we're together.
Frankly, I put my head down and scuttle past breast cancer bucket shakers as I can't deal with it. Don't get me wrong, the fundraising is important and I give large sums to cancer research but I find the bouncy fun approach hard going.

If this was at Hyde Park Corner station then the fundraisers were being very loud and quite obnoxious, so maybe they deserved it.

Some people don't like to have charity buckets pushed at them whilst they are just trying to go about their day. Many people have had problems with rude, nasty and arrogant "chuggers" trying to force others to donate, making people feel guilty even shouting abuse at them etc. Some as a result are rude to all charity collectors. It doesn't make it right but it's a fact.

If he's done collecting for charity a few times and he's never had anyone be rude to him then I'd say he's done very well and is presumably a decent kid who doesn't harrass people. Why would we know? She might have been drunk, upset, had mental health problems, all kinds of reasons she might abuse a stranger. I don't think we would know though, if you stand in public there's always an outside chance a member of the public might abuse you for no reason.

Did he approach her? Did he do the friendly "banter" routine? I've been very curt to chuggers in the street, I have no time for that kind of annoying "surely you have a minute to spare?" shite.
