To not know what a glory hole is at age 40???

justcurious40 · 09/03/2017 22:39

My DH brought this clip to my attention earlier:

(about 3 minutes in)

And was shocked that, at 40 years old, I had no idea what a "glory hole" is. I thought he was BU, but everyone else in the programme had hysterics and all knew what it was, so am I just stupidly naive/ignorant?

There's a rather lovely yellow fliwered climbing rose named "golden showers". I have one at the bottom of the garden.

DH and I snurk at that as well

Toobloodytired · 10/03/2017 10:41

My ex casually asked if I'd been to one before Hmm no, I don't believe I have & I don't believe I will!

TiggyD · 10/03/2017 10:47

In Regents Park outside the men's toilet is a flowerbed planted with the Rose "Golden Showers". I reckon it wasn't a coincidence.

Netball your version of Daffodils has got me properly lolling in the Sainsbury's café! Grin

RiverdaleJughead · 10/03/2017 13:03

Known what a glory hole is since I was a kid but can safely say I never knew what a 'fluffier' was until this moment Confused

MiddleClassProblem · 10/03/2017 13:16

Iggi999 why would they feel uncomfortable? We are all adults, relaxed, they lived through the 60s in london ffs. I feel sorry that you can't joke with people about sex.

On the Pearl Necklace subject...

My dad rang me and the my sister checking if we thought that mum would really like the pearl necklace that he was planning to give her for their anniversary. After assuring him that she would love it, my phone rang again and it was sister laughing so hard she couldnt catch her breath :o

welshmist · 10/03/2017 16:25

When I was a child I thought it was where God lived. My conviction came from the Lords Prayer "The power and the glory" line Blush

shovetheholly · 10/03/2017 16:32

I just spat out my tea laughing welsh

WhereYouLeftIt · 10/03/2017 16:45

I'm another one who is old enough to only know the original meaning of glory hole, on account of that being what my parents called the big cupboard in the hallway where everything was stashed. I am absolutely certain they knew no other meaning Grin.

walchesterweasel "When I've been doing nothing in particular I say I've been fluffing about - perhaps I should change this"
Where I come from, that would be faffing about. I'd probably go with that Wink.

sashh · 10/03/2017 16:55

I am a woman of the world and I know roughly how big the average winkie is and anything more than plywood is surely going to impede matters?

Think of a wider hole, more the size of a dinner plate rather than winkie size.

Once went to the loo in Manchester, there was no glory hole, just two toilets facing each other in the same cubicle.

Werkzallhourz · 10/03/2017 17:09

I admit I am somewhat intrigued by a lot of gay culture.

One thing that has always made me wonder about glory holes is, well, how do you know you've not picked up a psycho who is going to bite your winkie off?

You are so vulnerable in that position. Your arms and legs are on the other side of the partition, so you can't defend yourself. Confused

HemanOrSheRa · 10/03/2017 17:14

I could be wrong but I think that is part of the thrill Werkz Shock. Also the same goes for how much access to the genitals it actually offers, I should imagine. It's the thrill of the whole scenario, I think.

DaisyQueen · 10/03/2017 18:09

I've known what one is since my teens. I would pee myself laughing if I heard someone refer to a cupboard as one!

ladymariner · 10/03/2017 19:40

pagenowfound they'd also need a 16 volt hammer drill, Makita do a good one, ( battery operated unless you have a portable generator you can add to your kitbag) and a hole saw.....70mm should suffice Grin oh and a dust mask as one can't be too careful!!!

Pmsl at folding stool....Grin

ladymariner · 10/03/2017 19:43

Oh yeah and a pencil to mark your spot ✏ Grin

After a hellish afternoon in year 3 this thread (and wine Wine ) is hitting the spot perfectly!!!

SlatternIsTrying · 10/03/2017 20:28

I have no idea what you lot are talking about.

A glory hole is a cupboard where you put stuff. Every caravan has one.

I refuse to accept anything else otherwise I will never be able to look at my mother again. And yes, I did wear a pearl necklace on my wedding day!

sibys1 · 10/03/2017 20:46

This thread has reminded me of when my ex, who lived with her folks, had a pet rabbit, who was prone to chewing on the floor.

Her mother kept innocently referring to the rabbit as "her little carpet muncher"

BathshebaDarkstone · 10/03/2017 21:02

carpet muncher Grin

And I thought going dogging couldn't be topped! Grin

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 10/03/2017 21:08

ladymariner I think we probably need to add a small pack horse to the list. And a nosebag so it could have a munch* while it waited outside.

*Yes, I know the secondary meaning of that too.

goose1964 · 10/03/2017 21:21

Another one who learnt what it was from Scruples

MrsIanThornton · 10/03/2017 21:54

Someone mentioned up thread that their DD had googled 'daisy chain'. I daren't google on this device so help me, what is a daisy chain, as I assume it's not the thing you make in the garden by pushing your thumb nail through the stalk of a daisy???

Ericaequites · 10/03/2017 21:58

Generally in New England, a glory hole refers to a cupboard, drawer, or box full of assorted items that needs sorting and tidying. This activity is suitable for all audiences over six.

MiddleClassProblem · 10/03/2017 22:19

Learning that caravans have glory holes really doesn't surprise me 😂
