To want to move

Renting a room. Live in Landlord is super creepy. Extremely germaphobic I'm guessing, gives me regular talks on how to clean (I'm a clean person I know how to do it) tells me to tell my visitors how they should be using the toilet (men have to sit down apparently) and how they should wash their hands, that's weird right?
He hangs around outside my room and waits for me to come out and always has something else to show me how to do (the other day was how to do the washing up). He also just stands outside my room at night, it's very odd. In fairly sure he goes in my room when I'm out even though I lock it.

And all of this I can put up with, but twice now he has locked me IN the house. I can't leave, I'm on the top floor so I can't even hop out of a window. I have places I need to be and I do not like the thought of being locked in somewhere!!

I need to move but without my deposit back I can't afford it. He won't give it back I don't think because I haven't been here long enough (he says have to be here 4 months, I've been here two weeks, that's how much I hate it) he hasn't put it in a deposit scheme as he said it's an advance payment that will be given back at the end of did my stay after 4 months. I never signed anything jut said 'ok' in an email. I'm screwed aren't I?

Thank you :)
I just moved in because I was desperate and it was cheap.

Well, thank god for that Hmm

Does all seem very strange. Most people would go batshit if they got locked in by someone, anxiety or otherwise, not put up with it happening more than once.

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 16:35

I'm an odd person I guess. I hate confrontation and will actively go out of my way to avoid it.

Uni will definitely help masters as well as UG students. Though they aren't always brilliantly helpful but they can probably help you work out something here, even if it's just a plan of action.

You've mentioned your anxiety too, I don't know if you're treating this at all, but your uni will have a counselling service too that you can access for free if you're interested.

Maybe you could give a rough idea of where you are and we can try and help suggest / find you affordable decent accommodation?

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 17:12

I'm out now. The new tenant came home from work. Turned out the landlord has gone away til Saturday, didn't bother to tell me and locked me in. Probabl an accident but still maybe a heads up??

Shock Saturday!
At least he won't be lurking around tonight!

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 17:25

True. The new tenant doesn't speak English, and I don't think he understood when I told him not to lock the door when he leaves, so tomorrow will be interesting.

Did you get hold of the landlord? How do you know he won't be around till Saturday?

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 17:29

I said to the new guy 'where's *' pointing at his room. And he just shrugged and said 'away' and I asked when he was back and he said Saturday and that was all I could get it of him. I've emailed him saying it wasn't ok.

So you could have been locked in for best part of a week? And you're contemplating the fact that it could happen again tomorrow because the other tenant may do the same thing?
Who lives like this??

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 17:40

No because there are two other people who live here so I would have been let out today. I'm looking for other stuff now. I'm not putting up with this but I can't just magically leave this second.

How do you know it's the landlord locking you in? Could one of the other tenants have left later and locked the door behind them, not understanding how it works?

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 18:03

Because both had left this morning for work and I could get in and out of the house until around 10am when he left the house.

You must ask him how to unlock the door. You should explain that it is a fire risk. It is likely to be illegal to lock you in. If he s knowingly doing it, he must stop.
