To want to move

Renting a room. Live in Landlord is super creepy. Extremely germaphobic I'm guessing, gives me regular talks on how to clean (I'm a clean person I know how to do it) tells me to tell my visitors how they should be using the toilet (men have to sit down apparently) and how they should wash their hands, that's weird right?
He hangs around outside my room and waits for me to come out and always has something else to show me how to do (the other day was how to do the washing up). He also just stands outside my room at night, it's very odd. In fairly sure he goes in my room when I'm out even though I lock it.

And all of this I can put up with, but twice now he has locked me IN the house. I can't leave, I'm on the top floor so I can't even hop out of a window. I have places I need to be and I do not like the thought of being locked in somewhere!!

I need to move but without my deposit back I can't afford it. He won't give it back I don't think because I haven't been here long enough (he says have to be here 4 months, I've been here two weeks, that's how much I hate it) he hasn't put it in a deposit scheme as he said it's an advance payment that will be given back at the end of did my stay after 4 months. I never signed anything jut said 'ok' in an email. I'm screwed aren't I?

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:13

I have a video of me trying to get the door open of that would help 'prove' it...?

Floggingmolly · 07/03/2017 15:16

Who filmed you trying to get the door open? Grin

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:19

I sent a snapchat to my friend back home of me trying to wiggle the lock, click the button etc because he was laughing at me saying I probably didn't understand how the lock worked 😑 I filmed it my self.

OP posts:
Youdosomething · 07/03/2017 15:21

But no one to help you? Did your 'friend' no think he should help when you sent him a video of you locked in?

Youdosomething · 07/03/2017 15:22

*not

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:23

He's from my hometown, that's what I meant by my friend back home. He's not here

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2017 15:24

Op when the landlord leaves is it possible he doesn't know you are in, that's why he locks it?

Really you need to speak to him. And I think you need to seek some help for your anxiety, as not mentioning should concern you,

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:27

I am going to!! It might be that, but he should check, just a knock on the door or something?
I have someone on the way to let me out, so they should be here soon.

I totally understand your anxiety but you need to protect yourself, Shelter have a helpline you could call for knowledgeable advice? CAB can be hit & miss sometimes x

Youdosomething · 07/03/2017 15:32

'I have no friends locally'
' I got someone I know to come round and open the door for me' ????

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:37

I have no friends locally that I know well enough to ask to stay with, I know someone who is be ok with posting my keys through the letter box for them to let me out. Why are you so set on trying to trip me up? I'm not lying, it would be a stupid and odd thing to lie about Hmm

Youdo have you not heard of sarcasm? If you have concerns report the thread rather than playing Poirot or troll hunting.

Youdosomething · 07/03/2017 15:44

YEP! Certainly would be very odd!

Youdosomething · 07/03/2017 15:47

Sarcasm? Exploded?

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:49

I think she means this
Also for someone with anxiety issues, reading online 'get a grip' easily cured them

OP posts:
oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:49

I was obviously being sarcastic.

ExplodedCloud · 07/03/2017 15:49

Yes oregon

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:51

I wish it was that easy to get over it

MontePulciana · 07/03/2017 15:53

He sounds borderline psychotic. I'd get out quick. You have no idea what else he has up his sleeve. Check your room for hidden cameras.

Elendon · 07/03/2017 15:54

Call women's aid and also Citizen's advice - plus I'd also call Shelter and make a report to the police. Get the University on board too. He is abusing you. Locking you in is abusive behaviour. If this happened to my child and she phoned me about it, I'd be on to the police without a moment's hesitation. Good luck.

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 15:55

As paranoid as that makes me sound that's what I've been doing today

OP posts:
MontePulciana · 07/03/2017 15:58

Could he have some infatuation with you perhaps? Check the bathroom too. Not normal behaviour.

oregon1985 · 07/03/2017 16:02

No I think he's genuinely like this as a person. He appeared ok before I moved in but after that he was very RULES and you have to do everything my way. And I honestly felt like I'd moved in with a strict parent. So I just avoided him, then he started hanging out outside my room, then just appearing to tell me about a new rule he'd made up. So honestly I just stay in my room, which is why I don't see the other tenants, I figure they do the same.
The locked door thing has really freaked me out and I will be doing everything I can to move, contacting all the people you guys have mentioned for help.

This time in the year uni housing should be able to help because there will inevitably have been people who have dropped out of uni by now and that will have temporarily freed up space in uni accommodation. Mine did it for me when I had problems years ago. They're there to help all students, not just undergraduates. It's also important to make the uni housing office aware so they don't inadvertently recommend him to other students (ours had bulletin boards with ads from private landlords with rooms for students).

Super creepy! Hope you get something sorted asap!
