To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 09:14

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

Sweet and sour quavers (I think these must have been on trial during the mid-90s as nobody else I know remembers them) gosh they got me through a tough time! Plus, does anyone remember potato puffs? I could only get them from the local shop next to my primary school in the late 80s/early 90s, but mum and I went through bags of those beauties. Beef ones were my fave, mum loved the salt & vinegar ones.

Spira

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/03/2017 14:38

Te Tao shampoo in superdrug. At least they were named something similar. 5 types, each was named after an element. There was air, water, fire, earth and metal. Smelled amazing, and were see through but coloured. looked a lot like the old herbal essences used to look. Very fruity and spicy scents.

TheCutOfYourJib · 05/03/2017 14:39

Puffa Puffa Rice
Clinique Wrappings perfume.
Not found anything similar and it has pretty much ruined my life Sad

kelper · 05/03/2017 14:40

I miss trebor mints. They were lovely. They were kind of like polos without the hole. Trebor don't make them any more, just extra strong mints and soft mints :(

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/03/2017 14:42

It was indeed a feast lolly! (i actually googled beast lolly thinking it was the right sounding name and no results) alas doesnt seem they sell them or zaps anymore :(

frayedbuspass · 05/03/2017 14:44

Prescriptives Virtual Skin foundation and also the concealer. Who decided to eliminate an entire brand Confused

Fabellini · 05/03/2017 14:45

Woodleigh Green shampoo - smelled of apples, and was a luminous green colour.
Cosmetics to Go....Lush isn't the same, and I loved the Ginger perfume, and the Tramp shower gel Sad

onemorelindor · 05/03/2017 14:49

Romantica - that caramel-y, fudge-y ice cream cake from the 90s.

Loved me a Super Mousse and Tab Clear.

Both of my favourite perfumes from 10 or so years ago: Marc Jacobs Blush and Stella in 2.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/03/2017 14:51

I miss the american food restaurant chain Fatty Arbuckles. They changed the name just to Arbuckles then it disappeared all together.
And the most amazing cafe diner ever, Starvin Marvins! It was an american style diner in Manchester, it was awesome.

dairymilkmonster · 05/03/2017 14:51

I loved fuse bars too. When I was on weight gain at various times in my teens (eating disorder) I had them as snacks. One of the only foods I could enjoy back then. Thankfully crunchies are still around as They were my other fav!

Gold spread ( marg) - the blue one. It was really good. No current 'butter substitute' compares.

louloulottie · 05/03/2017 14:52

Totally with you on the 'Benefit so hooked on Carmella ' I was so pissed off when I found out it was discontinued. It was my favourite perfume & I haven't managed to replace it with a perfume that I loved as much as that one, it was delicious.

Miserylovescompany2 · 05/03/2017 14:52

I miss my orange mustache that Qia-Ora gave me in the late 70's-80's I used to almost drink it neat much to the distain of my mother. I'd whizz around high as a kite on all the colourings.

It was the brightest orange you've ever seen. They fiddled about with that as well.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 05/03/2017 15:02

Not rtft but Secret bars. They were lush.

loinnir · 05/03/2017 15:07

Still miss Bar Six no other wafer bar is the same as it!

I also loved Woodleigh Green Apple - certainly stripped away all the greasiness back in the late 70's/early 80's.

So sad that even though many chocolate bars remain the recipes have been changed beyond recognition- Double Decker is nothing like it used to be and Mini Eggs are foul this year (14% cocoa solids new mix) to name a few. MY DH bought me a box of Maltesers last week but the chocolate tasted like clay - they were £1 in ASda - I would much rather pay more and still have them taste good.

StarryIllusion · 05/03/2017 15:10

I still get the rage about frys orange cream and Turkey twizzlers. I'd punch Jamie Oliver if I met him.

megletthesecond · 05/03/2017 15:11

Cadburys Snaps chocolate covered crisps. Circa 2005?

My arteries and waistline are probably relieved they're discontinued though.

zukiecat · 05/03/2017 15:12

Chocolate Rich Tea Biscuits

A type of Battered Chicken Fillet that a local factory made, unhealthy but delicious!

A Boots Own Brand hand soap, called Ice Glacier

bionicant · 05/03/2017 15:17

chicken wickers

zukiecat · 05/03/2017 15:20

A Red Wine Cooking Sauce that Iceland used to do, it was discontinued after they discovered that one of the ingredients was the same as found in shoe polish

It was found in lots of other foodstuffs too, not just Iceland

It was lovely though!

thewooster · 05/03/2017 15:24

I agree with others who miss:
Frys five centres
Lovely mousses
Sara Lee choc gateau
Bar 6
Gypsy creams

and a few more:
Lolly gobble choc bombs
Proper coffee walnut whips
Activia caramel temptation yoghurts
and Asda used to make a dessert similar to Angel Delight in peach flavour, think it was Peach Delight and I miss it so much.
