To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 09:14

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

New TRIO'S are great. The YouTube vids of the old ads are even better!

Titsywoo · 09/08/2017 10:25

Reading through these, I think that the Body Shop could improve their profits by bringing back some of their originsl products, even for a short period.

Won't happen sadly - the man who invented all the good stuff was Mark Constantine (founder of the company I mentioned Cosmetics to Go and then after that he started Lush). He used to supply Body Shop but then I think fell out with Anita Roddick and she then sold to Loreal.

I've never got over the loss of Ultima II. I loved their 'Sheer Scent' and stocked up on it when I knew they were pulling out of the market. Spent a pretty penny acquiring as many bottles of it as I could and am now half way through my last bottle. God knows what I'll do when I run out, I've never found one that smelled the same!

Oh and Gipsy Creams. My god, the cravings I get for those!

Body Shop Strawberry body shampoo - it got tomato stains out of a cream silk blouse. Brilliant.

Really ruthless crisps - 3 levels of chilli, all really good

Neapolitans are still made by Lindt, see them in France all the time.
There is also a Nestlé milk choc with bits of cocoa bean

Doggymum88 · 09/08/2017 17:30

@AlmostAJillSandwich Arbuckles is alive and well in Downham Market, Norfolk. (My fav restaurant!) and I think they have recently opened another in Ely,

I really miss Cartoonies, but my major miss is Baker's Oven cheese and onion pasty. They were thin and crispy and gooey inside! I tried a Greggs one and it was awful! Chewy and basically full of air with very little filling

Talith · 09/08/2017 17:34

I miss the old style fruit gums which were transparent with hard nobbles. The matt effect ones are softer and not as pretty or nice to chew.

mrskitty15 · 09/08/2017 17:44

I miss Wotsit Waffles and White Chocolate Flake (Snow flake I think)

BabychamSocialist · 09/08/2017 17:54

Anyone remember the fruit gums you used to get in the pictures that came in a little box? I swear they tasted differently than normal ones and I've not seen them in years!

Holidaygirlsummer · 09/08/2017 18:11

Babysham
My local picture house has the boxes of sweets they are a pound and the tickets are 3.40 very cheap afternoon took the kids to see emoji film we were only people i there on a saturday afternoon bliss .

Housewife2010 · 09/08/2017 18:14

Walls Sonata. It was a chocolate version of Viennetta which had crumbled flake in it.

SideOrderofSprouts · 09/08/2017 18:15

Bath pearls

angularmerkel · 09/08/2017 18:56

Salsa with mesquite kettle chips
M&S parsnip and gruyere bake
Blockbuster video
Cider lollies from the ice cream van, the ones they do now just don't compare

herethereandeverywhere · 09/08/2017 18:57

Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise perfume. It was my smell - it smelled so good on me, strangers would even comment on it!

I would seriously pay a lot of money for someone to keep formulating and supplying it - I was even hoping it was one Jo designed herself before she sold the company and left (not sure about that though, it came out around the time she left) and she might do it again for Jo Loves...

I get so sad when I think about it - I have about a quarter of a bottle left and it's starting to slightly oxidise but I'll eek it out.

Why do companies do this? They have so many horrible stinky smells and they discontinue the good one!

Timefortea99 · 09/08/2017 19:05

Sunsilk Poppy shampoo for dull hair. It made my hair gleam. And smelt delicious.

Barbara Daly face powder

Clarins gradual self tan for face. The drops are not the same.

Waitrose Black Pepper bath foam

All my stuff is vanity driven, no food!

Serendipper · 09/08/2017 19:06

Another greggs one! I loved the chicken mango sandwich and am really craving it!

Kazzyhoward · 09/08/2017 19:10

Cadbury Old Jamaica rum & raisin chocolate bars - bloody Americans don't make it anymore.

Timefortea99 · 09/08/2017 19:11

Just thought of No 7 Soft and Sheer tinted moisturiser- matches my skin completely. They reformulated here a few years back but the original version was still available in the states for a while so I bought loads. Down to my last tube, sob.

Body Shop Chamomile Shampoo.

EsmeWeatherwax · 09/08/2017 19:18

I actually ripped a molar from my gum with a Texan bar as a child. Took the bar out my mouth and there was a bloody ended tooth sticking out of it.

But I miss Cheese and Tomato Pot Noodles with what I can only describe as physical pain. I so wish they would bring them back!

Pandoraslastchance · 09/08/2017 20:11

Te Tao series of shampoo and conditioners.

An orange coloured tin of impulse(and o2 loved those two together)

Gino Gineli Tutti frutti ice cream with the colour changing spoons on the box.

Barry m seemed to have stopped making my green eyeliner. It was the only one that made it through a 12 hour shift at work. Tried other colours and they just didn't cut the mustard. 0
Blushturkey twizlers

Glowerglass · 09/08/2017 20:15

Arabesque lipstick by Bourjois, it was the perfect shade for me. I've never found anything to replace it.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 09/08/2017 20:17

Things I miss:
Tayto sweet flavoured popcorn (could buy a bag for about 3 or 4p which was before we moved to the Euro )
A foundation that came in a silver can that when it was dispensed it came out as a mousse - I think that it was part of the No7 range but can't find a picture of it on the internet. It was light to apply and covered so well. A mousse foundation years before Maybelline brought out their whipped stuff.
Appeel - think that is what it was called. It was a drink.
There was another drink that came in as a powder in a sachet and you added it to water and it was soooo good (but was probably packed full of E numbers Smile )

A perfume called New West. Had a 'just out of the shower' fresh scent.

PissedOffNeighbour · 09/08/2017 20:22

Haven't RTFT but I miss rancheros - they were a yummy bacon flavoured snack in the 80s.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 09/08/2017 20:28

Rancheros are still available...

Yorkshirelassie · 09/08/2017 20:36

Body shop pineapple facial wash! I loved it. But don't miss those Japanese (at least I think that's what they were!) washing grains!! never managed to rinse them off properly and often saw one stuck near my ear or somewhere in the mirror later in the day Hmm

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 09/08/2017 20:41

I loved Fuse and Maverick bars too.

They have got rid of the squidgy bits of reconstituted date from Kellogg's Just Right. Waaaaaaah!
