To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 09:14

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

@nursebickypegs and the ice-cream one! I grew up by the Body Shop factory and used to love going in on a Saturday. They used to make this soap that you could play with, like play dough they did an amazing tea tree, mint and cucumber dandruff shampoo too.

nursebickypegs · 09/03/2017 13:16

@glitterglitters I use to always get a flannel from there in my stocking at Christmas! Weirdly my
Mum use to swear by their tea tree shampoo for bathing her dogs in. Their coats were amazing and soft, and they smelt good (for all of 5 mins)

glitterglitters · 09/03/2017 13:19

@nursebickypegs the magic ones!!! That were a disc and would unfold in water!!!! And bath pearls. Haha! That's probably the same stuff. My hair used to be super glossy.

HouseAtreides · 09/03/2017 16:29

Lush Grass shower gel. Nothing similar.
Boots Rosewater and Cinnamon body spray. I used to love going to Boots and smelling all their own brand Natural Collection scents- I still have a Poppy body spray and a Sunflower roll-on (which is a bit gloopy but I still smell it occasionally!)
Can you still get anything like the original Heather/Coffee Shimmer lipsticks? Because I would be all over that.
And the memory of Hot Crunch Pudding has blasted me back to my grands' kitchen, brown and cream tiled floor, big old radio playing my Grandpa's fogey radio station music, my cousin and I being allowed to make ourselves Hot Crunch Pudding with boiling water at around age nine. Thinking back, we were allowed to make fried potatoes unsupervised too. Yikes.

Chocolate Lovelies - YES! I still talk about these and most people look at me blankly.

On a more practical note, I miss Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser

HelenaDove · 11/03/2017 02:49

There is also a Barry M Lip Paint in Black Cherry for those of you who still like your lippy on the dark side.

VintagePerfumista · 11/03/2017 08:13

I think you can still get Heather Shimmer?

VintagePerfumista · 11/03/2017 08:44

Did someone say Rock n Rose?

Ebay is your friend.

Just came across it on my usual Saturday trawl for vintage smells!

Hippywannabe · 11/03/2017 08:45

So many nice memories on this thread

Liiinoo · 11/03/2017 09:01

Yes yes yes to Amazin Raisin, Sara Lee Double Chocolate Gateau and Sweet peanuts with lovely, salty peanut bits in the middle.

M&S used to do a chicken tikka sandwich on malted granary bread. Apparently it was best seller so I have no idea why it was discontinued. It was my lunch of choice for years in the 80s/90s. It has not been available for years but I still visit M&S to look for them and have to leave hungry and disappointed.

No one else ever remembers this next thing but I hope one of you will back me up - there used to be a sweet that looked like a barley sugar stick (you don't see them any more either). It was a long, thin, twisted sugar stick but instead of being orange and clear like barley sugar it was an opaque caramel colour/flavour and had a core of chocolate running through it. They cost about 3d so were an expensive treat compared with black jacks or fruit salads. I could afford as many as I want now but they are gone. ☹️️

sparklyheart · 11/03/2017 09:06

I was sooo sad that Lush discontinued their Grass shower gel, it smelt gorgeous! Sad

LoodleDoodle · 11/03/2017 11:22

Was obsessed with Le Feu D'issey, not the pants light version and was traumatised when it was stopped. If anyone knows of a good copy I'd be delighted.

Mignons Morceaux, a strange mint honeycomb / hard meringue in chocolate bar I forget the name of, Sara Lee pecan Danish, so many amazing things lost. Boo.

StrongerThanIThought76 · 11/03/2017 11:31

I've hardly been over the threshold of Thorntons since they discontinued jelly fish and jelly mice.

Brought my childhood to a shuddering abrupt halt Angry

BreconBeBuggered · 12/03/2017 00:34

Liinoo I remember those long twisty sweets, but with a decimal price tag. There was also a cola version without the chocolate that was ever so slightly chewy.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 12/03/2017 00:39

A lot of the lush comes back in the lush kitchen online occasionally

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 12/03/2017 02:12

Tab clear for me too.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 12/03/2017 13:10

Don Miller's Apple Doughnuts

Racheyg · 12/03/2017 15:07

Green and blacks cherry. I'm Heart broken Sad

Deploycharitygoats · 12/03/2017 15:16

M&S enchiladas. God, I loved them.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 12/03/2017 15:22

It was a long, thin, twisted sugar stick but instead of being orange and clear like barley sugar it was an opaque caramel colour/flavour and had a core of chocolate running through it.

Yep, I remember these. In decimal currency too.

I remember the chicken tikka sandwiches from M&S too I was eating them up to year 2000 and beyond. Until the tikka filling started to taste, 'chalky' so I stopped eating them though. Lush as they were with their mint flavoured dressing. Oh what a treat !

Sweet peanuts gone too ? Corner shop favourite.

I lived and died in Heather Shimmer lipstick. That and 'Bon Bon' lipstick from Boots.

Mignons Morceaux were nice too.

Bring back fuse bars.

Bring back Findus Lean cuisine ready meals. A couple of them were really nice.

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 12/03/2017 15:22

Oh, Green and Black's cherry! I'd forgotten about that. It was divine Sad

Kelsar · 12/03/2017 22:52

Heather shimmer !!!!

BreconBeBuggered · 12/03/2017 23:53

Sweet peanut lovers beware: I've been tempted by jars of alleged sweet peanuts and bought up 100g of nostalgia, only to find negligible peanut content and NO SALT. You can dip them in salt at home but then you fret about your blood pressure and it's not the same as seeping out slowly from a nut centre.

I've never quite gotten over losing white maltesers. I was excited about Hooch coming back as well but it doesn't taste the same!
