To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 09:14

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

Mouth watering at the thought of orange Spangles...... definitely showing my age here Blush

I also loved Prescriptives make up, especially the custom blend foundation - I've never had such a perfect foundation, though I've tried all the best brands. And the wonderful lipsticks, once you knew which colour family suited you, you could buy absolutely colour from that section and know it would work for you.

The other thing I really liked was the Loyd Grossman dansak sauce which was discontinued a few years ago. I contacted them and asked for the recipe but they wouldn't help, even though they don't sell it any more. It was perfect for a quick supper.

Because of this thread I've been trawling through some websites showing discontinued chocolates/sweets. Reminiscing, drooling and feeling sad..All those lost treasures 😉. Had a flashback to a bar i used to love but can't think of its name. Can anyone recall a bar (possibly 80's) that was similar in shape to a chunky Aero (don't think it was Aero) but it has a minty bubbly chewy center & covered in chocolate. I think I ate my bodyweight in them and now can't even remember what they were called !?

Vesta curries. Loved them as a child. Saw them in B&M a couple of years back and tried one again. It was stinking! Don't know if they changed the recipe or just my taste changing, but I was so disappointed!

M&S spring onion flavour crisps
Clinique Simple Perfume

Mcdonalds McChicken Premiere!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 08/03/2017 22:34

Very Valentino! My favourite perfume of all time. My DH bought me a bottle a couple of Christmases ago for £200!! I think I have sprayed it twice. I want to hold onto it forever.

Also Lush did a gorgeous foot powder about 20 years ago. I used to rub in onto my feet after a run and they were instantly soothed. The scent was amazing.

MusicToMyEars800 · 08/03/2017 22:36

LastGirlOnTheLeft don't keep it for too long or it will lose it's lovely smell and smell off.... I learnt that lesson the hard way Sad

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 08/03/2017 22:46

I have it hidden away in the dark Music but at the same time I know one day it will turn. DH is always asking me to use it - he bought it for me because he knew I loved it but I just don't want it to disappear forever. Music, what was the perfume you wanted to hold onto?

2468whodoweappreciate · 09/03/2017 01:35

I loved Very Valentino! Didn't know it was discontinued sob sob, I've had to turn to cheaper perfumes in the last few yrs unless they're gifted. I have a VV body cream unopened... maybe I should sell that, could be worth a few quid if perfume went for £200!

I thought they had stopped making Acqua di Gio for women as I couldn't find it in the shops the last couple of times I looked for it, but have just looked again and found it on Amazon. Phew!

Phew indeed, thanks burblish.

Ham and cheese mini cheddars - I'm sure they had tiny bits of ham in them.

Oh I'd forgotten about these! They did have tiny ham pieces, and they were fab!

VintagePerfumista · 09/03/2017 10:09

M & S used to do this cheese spread stuff- except you put it on toast and then grilled it. You could get mature cheddar or cheddar and mushroom and it was amazing.

Almay foundation/Charles of the Ritz face powder called something like Luminescence. Prob a forerunner of all the light-reflective stuff we get now.

PageStillNotFound404 · 09/03/2017 10:11

Oh yes Vintage, to make a quick rarebit. The cheddar one had cider in IIRC and it was fab.

VintagePerfumista · 09/03/2017 10:14

Adding Impulse Nirvana (black can) and Captivation (shocking pink can) to take me back to 1984 and 1987 respectively!

nigelforgotthepassword · 09/03/2017 10:59

I had the same pair of flats from Topshop 3 years in a row-tan suede oval toed, with a gold metallic strip around the top of the them.i loved them-they went with everything.I was devvy when my last pair fell to bits and they didn't do them anymore.I've searched for a similar pair ever since.
10 years and I still often think those shoes would look great with whatever I'm wearing and get quite sad.

MusicToMyEars800 · 09/03/2017 11:15

LastGirlOnTheLeft I had 2 one of rock n rose by valentine and the other one was called mickey light blue, the rock n rose one started to smell a bit off so had to use it all before it was unusable but still had to throw some of it away Sad

Whitewhine89 · 09/03/2017 11:41

Topper Bar - crispy rice, toffee & chocolate bar, possibly made by either Mackintosh or Rowntree. Nobody ever remembers them! They had a blue, yellow and red wrapper and I loved them.

M&S chicken tikka - circa 1988. Raw chicken already coated in the sauce which you put in the oven to cook. It was absolutely gorgeous and our Saturday night 'treat'.

Mint Easter eggs, think they were also Mackintosh.

bitteroulbag · 09/03/2017 11:43

The Body Shop is infuriating the way it keeps discontinuing products and introducing inferior stuff?

Heavenly, blissful unparalleled sweet lemon oil & scrub & body butter, Brazil nut mist, carrot moisturiser, ice blue shampoo - which did contain laurel sulphate, but now you can only get small size rainforest shampoo which doesn't...WHY OH WHY??? Is it the dreaded l'Oréal effect?

MusicToMyEars800 · 09/03/2017 11:56

bitteroulbag I know what you mean, I love the body shop but they keep discontinuing all the good stuff, they used to do this amazing perfume jasmine and neroli in an orange bottle now it's been discontinued.... AngrySad

usernotfound0000 · 09/03/2017 12:39

Gino Ginelli ice cream, particularly the mint and the toffee ones. Nothing these days is as good!

nursebickypegs · 09/03/2017 12:54

@usernotfound0000 omg yes! The tutti fruitti one!!! I still remember the jingle!

nursebickypegs · 09/03/2017 12:56

@bitteroulbag I think body shop do what LUSH do now, which is bring stuff out on limited edition runs. A few years back they had all the peach stuff again for 6 months and now it's gone. I do wish they would bring back the kids cola bubbles bodywash. I was obsessed with that as a 10 year old.

HazelBite · 09/03/2017 13:05

Cadbury's Highlights i loved the Mocha flavour that went about 3 years, I switched to the Hazelnut one now they've discontinued that! Sad
